Burton Point
The Archaeology of Burton Point - a report from the Heritage Open Day at Burton Mere RSPB reserve. Located on a sandstone promontory overlooking the Dee Valley, the Wirral, this small Iron Age enclosure is defended by a single bank and external ditch about 60m in length, running from the bank on the north to the cliff edge at the south.

Havnbjerg Ærskov Langdysse
Dolmen on a long barrow, 25 meters long, 18 meters wide. In the middle of the mound, a chamber 2 meters long and 0.7 meters wide is formed by a stone on each side. Seven of the curb stones are now visible, of which only the one in the middle of the south-eastern long side seems to be original.

Lilla Cross
This seventh century cross is said to be the oldest Christian monument in the north of England, it stands on the moors by RAF Fylingdales, andis said to mark the grave of Lilla, chief minister to King Edwin of Deira. The cross stands on a ruined bowl barrow known as Lilla Howe.

Arminghall Henge
Arminghall Henge is being excavated at present - the photo shows massive post holes being uncovered again for the first time since 1935. Henge and Timber Circle in Norfolk. In 1929 a prehistoric timber circle and henge monument site was discovered near the village by Gilbert Insall who had been taking air photos of the area in search of new archaeological sites. Whilst flying at around 2,000 feet (600 m) he noticed cropmarks of a circular enclosure made of two concentric rings with a horseshoe of eight pit-like markings within in. The entire site is around 75 m in diameter.

Pikestones
The Pikestones chambered cairn is (as far as we know) the only Neolithic burial monument in Lancashire. Located at 275m above sea level on Anglezarke Moor to the north of Horwich, it is now badly ruined, but still well worth a visit. According to the notice board the Pikestones cairn was originally roughly 45 metres long by 15 metres wide and orientated north-south. A single chamber was located under the higher end to the north.

Tottiford Reservoir
With the drought of 2022 now exposing the stone circle in Tottiford reservoir, I went down for an exploration yesterday. . Stone circle and rows in Devon. Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a prehistoric complex, buried beneath a reservoir in southern England. Archaeologists observing are justifiably astonished at its existence.

Haer Stane
Do you have any historical information, illustrations or drawings to add?. Standing Stone (and now destroyed stone circle?) in Clackmannanshire. As part of the war memorial near the school sits the magnificent Haer Stane, with a modern Celtic cross atop, celebrating Macalpin who camped on the nearby Baingle Brae where more stones lie at the roadside, which seem to have been removed from the Knowe where the pensioners cottages now sit.

Koutsounari fish tank
A hole in the rock with access to the sea. Fish were kept in it. There are different statements about the age, some say the site is Roman, others place it in Minoan times. Located in Crete.

Wanna Steingrab (16)
A stunning discovery in 2020 - though covered again after excavation.. An almost perfectly preserved four capstone passage grave discovered in 2016 near Ahlen-Falkenberg in Lower Saxony. Has been overgrown by moorland and hence well preserved. Excavation in 2020 revealed an unusually well preserved tomb. The site has been covered again after excavation. As the chamber is situated below modern ground level nothing can be seen except for a slight elevation.
