Preston Park Museum (Stockton on Tees)

Home of many of the Kirklevington Stones - some are on display but about half are in the museum storeroom - we have photos on our page. There is also a small archaeology display with some impressive Viking artefacts found during recent digs alongside the River Tees, including The Yarm Helmet (pictured). See our page for St Martin's Church for the Kirklevington Stones which remain in the church.

Grange (Co. Limerick)

Ken Williams makes the first find of megalithic art in County Limerick. Lough Gur has a great concentration of prehistoric remains, including wedge-tombs, foundations of huts, stone circles, standing-stones and crannógs (artificial refuge-islands in lakes). The most famous of these monuments is the stone circle and henge in Grange townland, situated to the E of the Bruff-Limerick road. Recent geophysical surveys of the great stone circle have led to major reinterpretation as later a Neolithic site with significant nineteenth century 'restoration'.

La Torre-La Janera

A large Neolithic site recently discovered by the Guadiana River in Huelva Province, Spain. Archaeologists have discovered three megalithic sites, "possibly linked to the control of the cycle of the seasons and the observation of astronomical events", two cromlech (stone circles similar to those of Stonehenge), 526 menhirs and various groups of dolmens.

Karakol Park

Sculptured Stones in Kyrgyzstan. There are about 25 Balbals in the park in the centre of Karakol, Kyrgyzstan, pictured here in 2010. These balbals have been collected from the surrounding countryside. As with anything you might find in a public park some have been vandalised, including being daubed with paint. the stones seem pretty neglected some hidden in undergrowth or toppled over, most of the stones here stand aound 1.5metres of of the ground although there are some taller and also shorter examples.
