Wow!!! I devoured this in one sitting. This author's comics are just so readable, and this one's probably the most conceptually ambitious, and my new favourite. The acknowledgements talk about the ways the story is semi-autobiographical, and to me th ...more

I truly believe everyone’s world will be richer with an understanding of trans history. When ideas of gender are subconsciously deeply-integrated into all aspects of your society, it's revealing to see how people perceived as crossing or defying its ...more

A lot of people just don’t know anything about pre-20thC queer history, and as someone who’s not an academic but is extremely interested, it’s really exciting to have a solid new book on the topic for anyone in the same boat. The chapters cover differ ...more |

I’m usually just not a light contemporary romance person but I enjoyed this a lot and thought the sexual chemistry was especially good!! Made me realise how much I really want more butch, nonbinary and plus size characters in other books really. List ...more
"This one's for the she/hers, the he/shes, and anyone who has ever been annoyed by Lord Byron. So, you know. Pretty much everyone."

just kind of a kids’ comics masterpiece. Effortlessly combines so many references, but in a really accessible way that feels totally like its own cool new thing, along with perfectly executed character storylines and laugh out loud jokes. The main ch ...more

"I had a lovely charming time with this, like sinking into the figuratively hot bathwater of a good fanfic. The pacing's a bit weird but I can forgive a lot for good character dynamics and actual slowburn taken seriously. Can't wait for the next one."

“You seek a false comfort when you demand that I define myself for you with words. Words do not contain or define any person. A heart can, if it is willing.”

“I want to sharpen my pride on what strengthens me, my witness on what haunts me. Whatever we name ourselves, however we end up shattering our self-hatred, shame, silence, and isolation, the goal is the same: to end our daily material oppression.”

“How does one hate a country, or love one? Tibe talks about it; I lack the trick of it. I know people, I know towns, farms, hills and rivers and rocks, I know how the sun at sunset in autumn falls on the side of a certain plowland in the hills; but what is the sense of giving a boundary to all that, of giving it a name and ceasing to love where the name ceases to apply? What is love of one's country; is it hate of one's uncountry? Then it's not a good thing. Is it simply self-love? That's a good thing, but one mustn't make a virtue of it, or a profession... Insofar as I love life, I love the hills of the Domain of Estre, but that sort of love does not have a boundary-line of hate. And beyond that, I am ignorant, I hope.”
