“Do you know all of my powers, Persephone?”
She swallowed and nodded, watching him warily. If he touched her again, if he kissed her again, she would give into him.
“Illusion,” she whispered.
“Yes.” He stepped into her space, his body pressed into hers. She was aware of every part of him. He was all power and strength.
She cleared her throat and offered, “Invisibility?”
She’d told herself she would extract a promise from him to never use that power with her, but she couldn’t form the words as he leaned in and breathed hot air against her ear.
“Very Valuable.”
“Charm?” She breathed.
“Hmm,” his lips trailed down her neck. “But it doesn’t work on you…does it?”
“No,” she swallowed hard against the lie. It went down sharp, cutting up her throat as it landed heavy in her belly, doing nothing to douse the fire there.
She felt his tongue dart out from between his lips and swirl against the skin of her collarbone and she shivered, her breath caught audibly in her throat. Then he pulled back and leveled his gaze with hers. “You seem to not have heard of one of my most valuable talents. I can taste lies, Persephone. Yours are as sweet as your skin.”
