Between the Covers ~ Holiday Distraction
Today’s Between the Covers is an excerpt from Holiday Distraction, Rowan, Book #13. Enjoy.
“There you go being all intuitive and stuff. You’re going to make someone a good boyfriend one day.”
“Your boyfriend.” He stated firmly.
“So that’s what you are huh?” She smirked. “No dating and so on first. Not even a little foreplay.”
“We’ve been doing foreplay for a lot of years. Although we have been friends for a long time there has always been something’s there simmering even though we didn’t face it. Or ignored it. Until we could no longer resist.” Dexter studied her. “This is just the next step.”
“You don’t say a lot. But when you communicate you do it so well.” Kelsey took a shuddering breath. “You’re making me regret leaving you.”
“What happened to foreplay? i.e. dating first.” Dexter slid down deeper under the covers.
“Fine will do the whole dating thing… with a lot of kissing then touching. Before we decide if we want to take this to another level.” Kelsey wiggled her eyebrows.
“We’ll see who lasts the longest to resist the distraction.” Dexter winked.
“Ohhh… did I just hear a challenge?” Kelsey smirked. “You’re on. Do your best to distract me and make me give in. “
Dexter resisted the urge to adjust his erection. He loved this side of Kelsey. The daredevil whose competitive nature made her oh so irresistible.
“I will.”
“God, when did your voice get all deep and attempting and stuff,” Kelsey leaned closer to the phone, “talk to me and keep that voice.”
Dexter laughed. “This is going to be way easier than I thought it would be.”
Kelsey rolled her eyes. “You wish.”
“So, fill me in what has been going on with you since stuff started going weird with us.”
It was one of the things he missed with her they had shared a lot. Talked about everything and just been. Although Kelsey was closer friends with his brother, Dalton and they had met each other first. She and Dexter had a different relationship that was also very close.
“That’s going to take more than one night.”
“We have a lot of time.” Dexter smiled. “I don’t plan on letting you go anywhere anytime soon.”
Kelsey returned his smile and settled in and started to fill him in.

Wesley glanced at Peyton standing across the yard talking to Pandora, her sisters, aunts, mom and other women at the party. He wondered what mischief the women were up to now. As if sensing his gaze Peyton glanced at him and winked. Although he was too far away to see the look in her gaze he figured it was that mischievous I am up to no good one. Then again maybe he really didn’t want to know. And he sent up a quick prayer it didn’t involve him.
“I hope that whatever they are up to doesn’t involve us.” Ian standing to his right said.
There were sounds of agreement from Savage, Zyric, Peyton’s dad, uncles and brothers as well as other men standing with Wesley.
Wesley figured as he was the men were looking at the women and from their body language, looks toward them and just plain when they got together it lead to trouble they knew they were up to something.
The women suddenly all laughed then headed toward them. Watching Peyton as it always did made Wesley hard. She had this innate rhythm that made him think of music that was wild untamed and so sexy.
“Shit.” Zyric said. “Pandora is smiling.”
Wesley glanced at her and saw she was. That didn’t bode well at all.
“Sinai too.” Ian sighed. “We are so screwed.”
Wesley noticed the wide smirk on Sinai’s face and yeah that was even worst. The women stopped a few steps from them. He noted those who were involved with someone stood before that person while the others just paired off with someone. So it was a man facing a woman.
“Oh lord.” Peyton’s father said. “My wife is…”
As he spoke all the women clothing changed. Wesley felt the magic surge in the air and from the sensation he knew it was Peyton’s mother. The high-collared skin-tight leather body suit, ankle boots and various weapons adorned each women and was meant to intimidate. The body suits and boots matched and were in different colors based on person wearing it. But all Wesley saw was how sexy Peyton looked in her dark rich red clothing. She winked at him again.
Move slow. She telepathically brushed his mind with her words.
Confused he didn’t know what she meant. Peyton’s mom strode out of the line and walked before them. He’d only seen her in more casual flowing clothing. It was amazing how what she wore seemed to change her mannerism. As she walked he could see where her kids had gotten their power and intimidating persona when on the hunt.
“Usually we have a competition. This time the ladies and I decided let’s make it more entertaining. Also to get in some practice.” She smiled and it wasn’t at all comforting. “So we’re the hunters and you will be our targets.” She started back down the line toward them. “We’ll give you a five minute head start.” She then went on to tell them the rules of engagement and that the weapons were loaded with rubber darts that was more of sting, any others like whips and ropes were for containment once caught. The winner of this would be determined by counting who was caught. So if more males were caught by women then the women won and vice versa. “So any questions.”
“Are we allowed to use our own weapons?” Ian asked unsheathing his claws. “Or powers.”
“Of course.” She smiled. “We want to at least give you a fighting chance.”
Wesley knew she didn’t mention not injuring each other since this was all in fun. And they would ensure that it was that and nothing else.
Peyton’s mother stopped just to his left and spoke again. “May the best women win.”
“You mean men.” Peyton’s dad retorted.
“Whatever you think I mean dear.” Peyton’s mother smiled wider.
“God woman you look…” Peyton’s dad grabbed her mother and pulled her to him kissing her.
“Mom…Dad.” The kids cried out.
“I’m scarred for life.” Sinai said covering her eyes.
“We’ve been that for a long time.” Peyton said sighing. She came forward and tugged on her mom.
The couple clung them released each other.
Peyton’s mother breathed out then said in a husky voice. “Don’t try to distract me man.”
“Anytime woman.” Peyton’s dad winked.
“Go.” Peyton’s Mom yelled.
People moved. Ian took off in a run toward Sinai then jumped in mid-air he shifted and from his trajectory he should have taken her down thus winning.
“Not that easy, kitty.” She shimmered and was gone.
Ian landed almost delicately on the ground, he made a growling sound then took off. Wesley shook his head. Seemed like Ian thought he was the one hunting Sinai but Wesley knew the woman was actually lulling Ian into a false sense of the chase.
Pandora pulled a wall of water and laughing she surrounded Zyric and herself. Suddenly the air peeled back and the shadows enveloped them. With Pandora using her gifts and Zyric the shadows Wesley figured they wouldn’t see them again for a while. Then again many of the others who were couples probably wouldn’t be seen for a while. He wondered if the women realized that even if caught the men wouldn’t mind so much. He hardened even more thinking of what he and Peyton could get up to.
“Aren’t you running?” Peyton asked right in front of him.
Wesley looked down and blinked. He hadn’t heard her approach. “I’m moving slow as you said I should.”
“At least let me chase you a little.” She pouted. “Make the blood get all flowing and stuff. Then when I catch you I can have you.” She leaned in and said next to his ear. “Anyway I want too.”
“Maybe I’m the one who will catch you.” Wesley countered.
“Ohh…” Peyton said. “That works for me.” She wavered then was gone leaving laughter in her wake.
He centered himself then connected with her mentally. Wesley smiled turned then started to run. Time for the hunt.

FBI: International (TV series)
I’m re-watching a TV show I enjoy. Love the dynamic of the characters. The characters are awesome. So good! I’m having a great time watching this awesome show. Love interactions between the characters. Each episode is great. Love it.

Grooving ~ Encore in Death

Still doing a reread of some of the JD Robb In Death series to get ready for the new book!
Doing a reread of the last few books in JD Robb’s In Death series.
Read Encore in Death.
As I have said before – This series is one I reread often (yes I reread often even though it’s a lot of books in series. I love this series). From the first time I read this series it caught me with the world building. All the books in this series are so amazing. They build on each other. Love them. And I will say again…..
I love me some Roarke and Eve. I also love Peabody, Feeney, and McNab. Mavis has a special place in my heart. Leonardo is a cutie. Trina well I’m with Eve on this she is a little scary but I like her anyway. Tibble… boy the list of characters can go on and on. Let’s just say that I love the whole In Death series.
Just reading a few so I’ll be ready for the new book. I love reading the books again.
Now back to reading.
