Between the Covers ~ Body Cravings
Today’s Between the Covers is an excerpt from Body Cravings, Protective Pursuits, Book #1. Enjoy.
Jacques pulled back and put his forehead against hers. “Want to play hooky?” He said it in a singsong voice.
“Let me get my bag,” Amara replied in the same tone.
She got her bag and coat. Jacques helped her into it. He pulled her hair from below the collar, trailing his finger from the edge of her hairline down until the coat stopped him.
Moaning, Amara asked, “What did my sister say to you?” Amara groaned as he kissed the top of her head. She viewed him expectantly.
“She threatened to unman me if I hurt you.” Jacques chuckled.
Amara glanced at the door, then back at him. “What’s funny about that?”
Jacques made a rude noise. “The idea she could do such a thing.”
Amara reached down and put her hand inside his jacket, stroking his cock through his slacks. Jacques’ eyes heated. She leaned against him and kissed him thoroughly.
Pulling away, she raised an eyebrow. “I wouldn’t underestimate my sister if I were you. But you don’t have to worry about her.” She released him and walked away.
“Why?”
Amara looked at him over her shoulder. “If you hurt me, the pleasure of unmanning you will be all mine.”
Jacques mouth fell open in shock before amusement filled his gaze. He walked over to her and put his hand around her waist. “You don’t have to worry about that. I won’t hurt you.” He kissed her briefly before leading her out the door.
Fifteen minutes later, Amara stood in front of the store at 18 Lauioe Square and studied the display. She glared playfully at Jacques. “I can’t believe I let you talk me into this. I’ve lived in this area, been in this area many times and never seen this place. How the heck did you find out about it?”
“A friend.” Jacques pulled her toward the door.
Standing her ground, she asked. “What friend?” Amara winced as she heard the jealousy in her tone.
Jacques was amused. He kissed her on the nose. “No need to be jealous.” He pulled her into him and kissed her thoroughly before drawing back to met her gaze. “Although I like you being possessive, it was a male friend. He said they had some beautiful pieces.”
Amara glanced past him at the window again. The female mannequin was draped in a see-through, short magenta camisole and tap pants. There was fine gold embroidery detailing on the outfit, making it shimmer and tantalize. It aptly went with Tantalize, the name of the store that was in discreet gold script. Usually she bought her lingerie from Unveiled—a bigger store that had some beautiful things as well—as it wasn’t too far from where her offices were on Caspain Avenue. Unveiled had various in-house designers who made what they sold. You could get custom pieces or buy off the rack.
She focused back on him. “I’ve heard of them and always meant to check them out but never found the time. If I’d known they were so close to my house I would have been here sooner.” Amara rubbed her hands together as she stared back at the window of Tantalize. “What are you waiting for? Let’s go.”
She laced fingers with his, pulling him into the store. Amara stopped inside the doorway, taking in the plush chairs and wide array of lingerie. From what she had heard of Tantalize, they had an in-house designer who made everything. All the pieces were unique and the quality was superb. With brisk steps, she walked over to a floor-length peignoir. Amara touched the fine silk. She loved sexy things.
Jacques’ voice came from behind her. “You would be sexy in that.”
She smiled seductively. “So would you.”
Jacques laughed. Amara picked it up in burnt orange and continued to look around. Jacques took it and, as she picked up more things, she handed them to him. He followed behind her patiently. When she asked him his opinion, he nodded or shook his head.
Amara reached for another piece, turning to hand it to him. When she saw the pile of things in his hands, she grinned sheepishly. “Umm … sorry.”
Jacques laughed. “I love to see you shop. Don’t you want anything else?”
Amara stared longingly at the two-piece pajama set across the room. She shook her head. “No. Let’s check out and go.” She put her hand around his waist, walking with him to the front of the store. “Thanks for being so patient.”
Jacques gazed at her, his expression sizzling. “My pleasure.”
Amara laughed. “Most men would have run screaming by now.”
Jacques dumped the items on the counter. He put his hands around her waist. “I’m not most men.”
He kissed her softly. Amara shifted and glanced at the man behind the counter.
Reaching into her bag for her purse, she was stopped by Jacques’ hand on her arm. She looked up at him. He was handing the man a credit card.
“Jacques—” she started to protest, but he put his finger over her lips.
“Shh… I’m paying. Now say, thank you, Jacques.”
She glared at him. He leaned down and she snapped her teeth at him. He jerked back, laughing. His other arm came up to encircle her. “Now is that any way to say thank you?”
Amara chuckled. “I’ll thank you later.”

Wesley glanced at Peyton standing across the yard talking to Pandora, her sisters, aunts, mom and other women at the party. He wondered what mischief the women were up to now. As if sensing his gaze Peyton glanced at him and winked. Although he was too far away to see the look in her gaze he figured it was that mischievous I am up to no good one. Then again maybe he really didn’t want to know. And he sent up a quick prayer it didn’t involve him.
“I hope that whatever they are up to doesn’t involve us.” Ian standing to his right said.
There were sounds of agreement from Savage, Zyric, Peyton’s dad, uncles and brothers as well as other men standing with Wesley.
Wesley figured as he was the men were looking at the women and from their body language, looks toward them and just plain when they got together it lead to trouble they knew they were up to something.
The women suddenly all laughed then headed toward them. Watching Peyton as it always did made Wesley hard. She had this innate rhythm that made him think of music that was wild untamed and so sexy.
“Shit.” Zyric said. “Pandora is smiling.”
Wesley glanced at her and saw she was. That didn’t bode well at all.
“Sinai too.” Ian sighed. “We are so screwed.”
Wesley noticed the wide smirk on Sinai’s face and yeah that was even worst. The women stopped a few steps from them. He noted those who were involved with someone stood before that person while the others just paired off with someone. So it was a man facing a woman.
“Oh lord.” Peyton’s father said. “My wife is…”
As he spoke all the women clothing changed. Wesley felt the magic surge in the air and from the sensation he knew it was Peyton’s mother. The high-collared skin-tight leather body suit, ankle boots and various weapons adorned each women and was meant to intimidate. The body suits and boots matched and were in different colors based on person wearing it. But all Wesley saw was how sexy Peyton looked in her dark rich red clothing. She winked at him again.
Move slow. She telepathically brushed his mind with her words.
Confused he didn’t know what she meant. Peyton’s mom strode out of the line and walked before them. He’d only seen her in more casual flowing clothing. It was amazing how what she wore seemed to change her mannerism. As she walked he could see where her kids had gotten their power and intimidating persona when on the hunt.
“Usually we have a competition. This time the ladies and I decided let’s make it more entertaining. Also to get in some practice.” She smiled and it wasn’t at all comforting. “So we’re the hunters and you will be our targets.” She started back down the line toward them. “We’ll give you a five minute head start.” She then went on to tell them the rules of engagement and that the weapons were loaded with rubber darts that was more of sting, any others like whips and ropes were for containment once caught. The winner of this would be determined by counting who was caught. So if more males were caught by women then the women won and vice versa. “So any questions.”
“Are we allowed to use our own weapons?” Ian asked unsheathing his claws. “Or powers.”
“Of course.” She smiled. “We want to at least give you a fighting chance.”
Wesley knew she didn’t mention not injuring each other since this was all in fun. And they would ensure that it was that and nothing else.
Peyton’s mother stopped just to his left and spoke again. “May the best women win.”
“You mean men.” Peyton’s dad retorted.
“Whatever you think I mean dear.” Peyton’s mother smiled wider.
“God woman you look…” Peyton’s dad grabbed her mother and pulled her to him kissing her.
“Mom…Dad.” The kids cried out.
“I’m scarred for life.” Sinai said covering her eyes.
“We’ve been that for a long time.” Peyton said sighing. She came forward and tugged on her mom.
The couple clung them released each other.
Peyton’s mother breathed out then said in a husky voice. “Don’t try to distract me man.”
“Anytime woman.” Peyton’s dad winked.
“Go.” Peyton’s Mom yelled.
People moved. Ian took off in a run toward Sinai then jumped in mid-air he shifted and from his trajectory he should have taken her down thus winning.
“Not that easy, kitty.” She shimmered and was gone.
Ian landed almost delicately on the ground, he made a growling sound then took off. Wesley shook his head. Seemed like Ian thought he was the one hunting Sinai but Wesley knew the woman was actually lulling Ian into a false sense of the chase.
Pandora pulled a wall of water and laughing she surrounded Zyric and herself. Suddenly the air peeled back and the shadows enveloped them. With Pandora using her gifts and Zyric the shadows Wesley figured they wouldn’t see them again for a while. Then again many of the others who were couples probably wouldn’t be seen for a while. He wondered if the women realized that even if caught the men wouldn’t mind so much. He hardened even more thinking of what he and Peyton could get up to.
“Aren’t you running?” Peyton asked right in front of him.
Wesley looked down and blinked. He hadn’t heard her approach. “I’m moving slow as you said I should.”
“At least let me chase you a little.” She pouted. “Make the blood get all flowing and stuff. Then when I catch you I can have you.” She leaned in and said next to his ear. “Anyway I want too.”
“Maybe I’m the one who will catch you.” Wesley countered.
“Ohh…” Peyton said. “That works for me.” She wavered then was gone leaving laughter in her wake.
He centered himself then connected with her mentally. Wesley smiled turned then started to run. Time for the hunt.

Grooving ~ Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
There are many definitions to grooving. The one I’m exploring is all about things I enjoy. So I’ll be sharing with you some things that get me grooving.
