New release--Gingerbread Wishes

In the midst of shopping and wrapping frenzy last week, I released a short story that occurs right before the holiday but can be enjoyed at any time of year. This is the first title in the Sugar & Spice Bakery series.

Tora can’t wait to sell the family bakery run by generations of Hammond women and seek excitement outside of Dorado, Texas. Widower Jordan Dawson, the town’s star quarterback from a decade ago, returns to his hometown with plans to develop a sporting goods store. He also hopes a small town Christmas will cheer up his five-year-old daughter, Jenna, still recovering from the loss of her mother. Will the spark of interest Tora sees in Jordan’s eyes be the excitement she’s looking for?

Ethnic customs and food enrich writing

Since I've been researching customs and foods for recent works, I shared that information on two blogs recently.

Holiday customs add to an author's depiction of a character's ethnic background. On Wednesday, my post appeared on Scribbler's Sojourn.
http://terrirochenski.blogspot.com

Including ethnic foods in a scene can serve as a conversation addition but also reveals a bit of that character's past. That post is the Friday Fun in The Ladies Cave.

I hope you'll stop by and read about the stories where I used these techniques.
