Have Problems Disconnecting? Mail Your Mobile Phone Away For a Few Days
Great concept by Johanna Nieminen, student at the Aalto University School of Art and Design in Finland.
Say you're going to go on a holiday, and you don't want to be plagued by the constant beeping and buzzing of your mobile phone. You just load disconnectedholidays.com (not a working URL) into your browser and enter in your home address, they send you a box, you put your mobile phone inside, mail it off, and then...

SXSWi: Surprisingly Good
I'll confess: Every year, I'm one of those guys that gripes about SXSWi being too big, about the content being poor, and about the assumption that this year is finally the peak year and things will die off next year.
Well, this year, I was pleasantly mistaken.
I've attended and spoken at a number of web conferences here in the U.S. and abroad. Not quite enough to conclusively state the following with 100% certainty, but pretty close: There's simply no other web conference like SXSW on the...
"Pre's Hardware is the Xbox 360 of Smartphones (in a Bad Way)"
ArsTechnica's Jon Stokes on the unfortunate demise of Palm:
I've only met one Pre owner in-person who hasn't sent at least one phone back, but I've met many people who have sent multiple Pres back. When you pull out your Pre somewhere and another Pre user spots it, the odds are close to certain (in my experience) that that person has sent at least one unit back because of some kind of issue. Every single reviewer that I know of...

Limited Edition, Signed
Repeating here some of what I posted to Flickr:
This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable parts of this project—putting my signature in metallic ink on a sheet of Somerset Velvet black letterpress paper.
A huge thank you to those of you who have made this project worthwhile for me by purchasing one of my posters. Roughly one-quarter of the available Limited Edition stock has sold. Still time to purchase your copy before they're gone for good.

ReadyShipper: Bulk Shipping for Mac/PC
Today has been filled with shipping madness, as the first round of Colosseo letterpress posters are on their way to customers. While a little buggy and a bit of an eyesore, ReadyShipper has saved my hide today. Integration with PayPal, UPS, and Stamps.com has made it fairly easy to process dozens and dozens of orders at a time.
H&FJ: Four Techniques for Combining Fonts
Hoefler & Frere-Jones:
Here are four tips for navigating the typographic ocean, all built around H&FJ's Highly Scientific First Principle of Combining Fonts: keep one thing consistent, and let one thing vary.
Positively bookmarkworthy. This is great stuff, and the examples are top-notch.
"The Future of Publishing" by DK (UK)
The original description on YouTube reads as follows:
This video was prepared by the UK branch of Dorling Kindersley Books. Originally meant solely for a DK sales conference, the video was such a hit internally that it is now being shared externally. We hope you enjoy it (and make sure you watch it up to at least the halfway point, there's a surprise!).
I echo Monoscope: This is genius copywriting.
Beast Pieces: Squarespace Poster and Business Cards
I follow Beast Pieces regularly. I'm a fan of Squarespace. And Tyler and I have chatted on more than one occasion. It was a pleasant surprise to see the three come together in this post.
Hamilton Ventura XXL Elvis Anniversary Edition Watch
Uncrate:
The Hamilton Ventura XXL Elvis Anniversary Edition Watch doesn't appear to have much to do with the King. Or maybe not…. Presley apparently wore a classic Ventura back in the day, and he was reportedly abducted on a spaceship that looked just like this watch.
