The Declaration of Independence, Rendered with CSS3 and @font-face
The markup is fairly clean, but still somewhat presentational. On the whole, however, this is nicely executed.
Microsoft Calling. Anyone There?
Ashlee Vance, reporting for The New York Times:
Stylish designs, an emphasis on flashy social-networking features and an all-out marketing blitz were meant to prove that Microsoft could build the right product at the right time for the finickiest customers — gossiping youngsters with gadget skills.
But last week, less than two months after the Kins arrived in stores, Microsoft said it would kill the products.

Capturing Ideas in the Shower
Two sizes of dive slates, as displayed in my shower.
I've written before about showering as an ideal model for creative pause—minimal distraction, mental freedom, and a change of scenery. What I haven't written about is how to capture what comes of the pause. Inspiration is elusive and fleeting, and if it isn't captured when it comes, it's often gone for good.
For the past few months, I've kept a dive slate in my shower. These are typically used by instructors during scuba training or to...
TumblrBits
Dan Cederholm, on switching to Tumblr:
I don't have time to customize another CMS. I used to love having the time to customize a CMS only to find a better one and customize that. I'm aiming for efficiency now….
If I waited till everything was perfect I would've never launched this thing. I'm now ok with doing things in stages. I think the most important thing in all of this is that I'll be able to post quickly, easily, with less effort.

Our new mission is...
How to Make Web Content Look Stunning on iPhone 4's Retina Display
Aral Balkan's tutorial includes a number of helpful resources, as well as a petition to browser vendors:
I'd like to suggest that browsers adopt the same naming convention that Cocoa Touch uses to find and load high-DPI versions of image and video assets. That is, if I embed an image using the following code…
… it should load in flower.jpg when the device-pixel-ratio is 1 but it should attempt to find an image called...
"It's Like a Love Letter to Dieter Rams."
John Gruber's exhaustive review of iPhone 4.
Hello, Craig.
Yes, hello. Good to see you're finally offering prints for purchase, Craig. Fantastic work. (Craig is an animal on Dribbble and a previous contest winner.)

Brooklyn Beta
Coming to Brooklyn in October, this is a new conference brought to you by Analog & Fictive Kin. I'm thrilled to be a part of it because a) I've never visited New York (I know!) and b) I'll be sharing some stuff I've not shared before. No Good vs. Great Design this time around.
The Cure for Creative Blocks? Leave Your Desk.
Jocelyn K. Glei, writing for The 99 Percent:
Though we are more likely than ever to be tethered to others by our iPhones and Blackberries, it's more important than ever to carve out periods of uninterrupted contemplation. To take our brains out of their scattershot Internet patterns and navigate a new city, take in nature on a long walk, sit quietly and read a book, or have a serendipitous conversation with a stranger.
