A diary keeper, a journalism major, a public relations executive, now a children’s author—Lindsay Leslie has always operated in a world of written words. She likes to bring her unique outlook on life, quirky humor, and play with words to the page in picture books. Lindsay is the award-winning author of GUS HEARTS THE BUS, SO YOU WANT TO BUILD A LIBRARY, DUSK EXPLORERS (an SCBWI Crystal Kite Award winner, Kirkus starred review, Bank Street Best Book of 2021 with Outstanding Merit, and Amazon Editors’ Pick), NOVA THE STAR EATER, and THIS BOOK IS SPINELESS (Booklist starred review). Lindsay lives in Austin, Texas, with her sci-fi/horror novelist husband, Ryan Leslie, two kiddos, and two fur-beasts.

I never try to fight it head on. I shrug my shoulders, walk to the library, and read a bunch of picture books. Or I take a webinar on a topic of my interest. Or I have a snack and then switch to another project. One way I get around writer's block is to have many projects going at the same time. I rarely find that the words won't flow at all. Something will eek out with one of my works in progress. (less)

I have four picture book manuscripts I'm working on and very excited about. I'll talk about them broadly.

One is fic-informational or a hybrid of fiction and non-fiction just like my second book coming out with Page Street Kids called NOVA THE STAR EATER (Spring 2019). And just like NOVA, this one is funny! It's quirky! You'll learn something -- BONUS! I had a blast writing it, as it's set in the ocean, which I adore almost as much as I love space. But space wins just because I've never been there and probably won't ever get the chance.

I also have a more serious and lyrical day-in-the-life story about a stray dog. It tugs at the heart and pulls you in. I have dreams about this dog. A couple of my critique partners believe they've seen this dog around and I love that.

Another work-in-progress is a laugh-out-loud book about two dogs who believe their owner is royalty. It's told from one of the dog's perspectives and is chock full of hi-jinks.

The last story in the pile is set at a roller rink. My oldest son is an avid skater of the in-line kind, and I spend a lot of time at the rink. I had to wrap this into a picture book story somehow and am having fun with it. (less)
