⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m not the person you’re pretending I am.

Graham is still reeling from the pain of separation from his husband, Calvin. He forces himself to wade back into the dating pool with the help of a handsome stranger who offers to remind what it’s like to put himself out there.

Are you saying you want to go on a date with me?

Emory has his hands full with Graham when his new boss, Calvin, asks him out for drinks. He’s not sure there’s a future with Graham, even though he wouldn’t mind one, so he tells Calvin yes. He has no idea the men he’s about to fall for are already desperately in love…with each other.

Did you know it was me?

When his paralegal suggests a group date, Calvin bucks tradition and tells the younger man yes. He’s not expecting Emory’s other boyfriend to be his estranged husband, and he’s definitely not expecting what comes next.

That’s against the rules.

Calvin, Graham, and Emory find themselves in a delicate relationship with rules and structure, but hearts are wild and refuse to listen. Emory is ready to commit, but Calvin and Graham’s past threatens their future and the chance to see their love made whole.

I didn’t know I’d fall in love with you.

Author Spotlight - J.R. Loveless

Everyone, please welcome J.R. Loveless today!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Hi, my name is J.R. Loveless. I've been writing gay romance for over ten years now. It's something I discovered at a dark time in my life and helped me through that year and even longer. I started out watching Yaoi and eventually moved on from there to western-style gay romance. But before I did that, I started writing on a yaoi forum in the original fiction section and eventually built up a large following there. I can never thank my readers on Aarin enough because of their support I've been able to accomplish a dream I've had since I was in middle school!

I love reading gay romance as well especially paranormal (shifters, fated mates, etc) and hurt/comfort stories. I adore a strong, kind man stepping up to protect and help their mate or lover to overcome their past or present situation. That is why many of my stories trend that way, I suppose. I have strong characters and characters who learn to be strong as time goes on.

How would you describe your brand? What makes one of your books inherently YOU?

I think I kind of described this in the other area about me, but I think I tend to lean toward the hurt-comfort and the paranormal (primarily shifters). You won't find insta-love in my books and I do my best to make the characters as real and the plot line as real as possible.

Tell us about what you're currently working on.

I currently have about 10 books, novellas and novels, in progress. The stories just come to me. Unfortunately, time is a key factor along with my health, so I don't produce as fast as I would like. But my readers can rest assured, I won't stop writing, just may be a little slower than most.

I have a new shifter-verse I have been madly working on as I cannot pursue my True Mates series further just yet. I am almost 70k words into that one and there is still a lot left to resolve.

If you could dream cast your favorite book into a movie, whether yours or someone else's - what book would it be and who would you cast?

I would love to see my book Touch Me Gently made into a movie. The script would have to be polished better, but it's a novel I would love to see as a movie. Casting, hmm, I guess I never really thought about it before. I think Chris Hemsworth would make a great Logan. As for Kaden, no one comes to mind who would fit the character. I'd have to think on it a little harder for him.

What is the weirdest place you've ever written before?

I'd say in an airport food court or at work.

What does the writing process look like for you? What comes first? How do you start? When do you know you have a good idea vs a dream?

Stories hit me from many avenues. The most minor thing could trigger a thought and I write down the basic plot. When I start, I just start at Chapter One. I am more of a pantser vs a plotter so I just write where the wind takes me. I really know that I intend on pursuing the idea when it flows out of me easily without having to wrack my brain to get the ideas to come.

If you could write about any character or story that you haven't written about yet, what would it be and why?

I started a story years ago, a kind of co-authored story, but we considered it more of an RPG session where we would then share those on the forum both of us wrote on. My character was a tortured vampire named Sebastian whose lover died in the past and he blames himself. I would like to finish (in this instance I would have to start from scratch) his story, show his happy ending.

Which of your characters do you think is the most under appreciated and why?

I am not really sure I have an answer here. Maybe a side character. I honestly can't think of one right now.

What is your favorite book? One of yours and one of someone else's.

I would have to say I go back time and time to read Change of Heart by Mary Calmes. There's just something about that book that grabbed me from the beginning and never let go.

My own? I would say Touch Me Gently. It's my one book, while not written as well as many of my newer ones, that I think is the "baby" of the family of books I have out, so to speak. It's my first ever novel length story written, my first published book, and my most well-loved book by my readers.

Favorite show to binge watch?

This is so hard to choose! I love so many and have rewatched them several times over the years. The two that come to mind right now is Z Nation and Primeval.

What movie have you seen more times than you want to admit?

I love movies and I have no shame in admitting how many times I've seen one. My all time favorite movie which I've seen probably fifty times in my life is a slightly more obscure 80s movie called Legend.

Favorite quote or song lyric:

I don't really have a favorite lyric. I think songs really speak for themselves, if you listen close enough. One of the songs that speaks to me on many different levels is One More Light by Linkin Park.

Is there anything else you want anyone to know?

Someday, I would love to be able to write for a living. I know most authors say that and anyone who is an author can understand the desire for wanting to be able to create your own worlds and not answer to anyone else.

Author Spotlight - Geoffrey Knight

Welcome to Geoffrey Knight!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: My name is Geoffrey Knight, I’ve been publishing gay fiction for over 12 years with over 30 books on Amazon for you to dive into. I've got pages and pages of manly fun for you to fall in love with, from rom-coms to adventures to mysteries and everything in between. I live in North Queensland, Australia, with my husband, daughter and a house full of fur-kids.

How would you describe your brand? What makes one of your books inherently YOU?

I write in several different sub-genres such as romantic-comedy and adventure, but all of my books have a heightened sense of escapism. My style of writing comes with a definite sense of hyper-reality, a certain dream-like quality that nudges my characters into a modern fairytale landscape. The romance is more romantic, the adventure is more action-packed and the comedy is more over-the-top. After all, I'm writing fiction right? Why not make the most of it :)

Tell us about what you're currently working on.

I'm currently working on a royal rom-com with an opposites-attract romance and a cast of crazy characters who must overcome their fears and foibles to pull off the royal event of the decade. Hilarity ensues on the path to true love!

If you could dream cast your favorite book into a movie, whether yours or someone else's - what book would it be and who would you cast?

Gosh I'd love to see my rom-com The Billionaire's Boyfriend turn into a movie. I'm a massive Schitt's Creek fan and I based the lead character on Dan Levy, while his crazy friend Mrs. Mulroney is pretty much Catherine O'Hara with an Irish accent. (Dan and Catherine, if you're reading this I'll happily send you a copy of the book!). As for the billionaire love interest Cal, I think Chris Hemsworth would do nicely, thanks very much.

What is the weirdest place you've ever written before?

In a newsroom for a newspaper. I was working for the paper at the time but desperately needed to get a scene down so when nobody was looking... ;)

What does the writing process look like for you? What comes first? How do you start? When do you know you have a good idea vs a dream?

It really depends on the sub-genre. If it's a romance or a rom-com I'll come up with the characters first then dive right in and let the characters write the dialogue and take the story where they want it to go. In those instances the characters are very much in control. For thrillers and adventures, on the other hand, I'm the one in control. Everything has to be very well-planned and structured, right down to the final scene, otherwise the whole thing will just derail itself. For a thriller or an adventure I pretty much know it's a good idea vs a dream once the plan is in place, then I start writing. For romances and rom-coms, because I'm writing by the seat of my pants, it's usually the 10,000-word mark when I know whether the book has legs or not.

If you could write about any character or story that you haven't written about yet, what would it be and why?

I'd love to write an epic love story set in Australia. I've already written The Pearl which is set in the outback and the tropical north, but I'd love to write something even more sweeping than that. It'll come in time, I know, I can already feel it bubbling away beneath the surface, I just need to find time to sit down and write it.

Which of your characters do you think is the most under appreciated and why?

In my book The Chocolate Works, there's a secondary character named Ricky who is an awkward, meek and goofy Native American. As I was writing his story I absolutely fell in love with him and realized how much his story represents the entire narrative. In a way he symbolizes everything about ALL the characters in the book. He's lost his identity and needs to find it and on the way he desperately wants to find love too. There's an innocence and sweetness about him that I adore. I wish everyone had a Ricky in their life.

What is your favorite book? One of yours and one of someone else's.

My favorite book out of all the ones I've written would have to be The Chocolate Works. It was a true labor of love that took me 8 years to write. It was hatched on a trip to a chocolate shop in New Mexico at GRL 2012, so its origin has a special place in my heart. I love the characters and the themes of the book, that it takes a village to make a dream come true... literally. My favorite book by someone else would have to be Sno Ho by my dear friend Ethan Day. That book is hilarious! I learned everything I need to know about writing comedy from Ethan. His legacy lives on in his books and in what he taught me. If you haven't read Sno Ho, please do yourself a favor! It's sweet and funny and fabulous, just like Ethan.

Favorite show to binge watch?

Goodness. Schitt's Creek of course. The laughs, the tears, ALL the feels! Moira is a goddess!

What movie have you seen more times than you want to admit?

Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was 11 years old when I first saw it and it made me want to be a storyteller. It's not just an over-the-top adventure movie, it's a masterful piece of movie-making. A lot of people don't realize it was actually nominated for Best Picture. Not many action movies have reached that level of acclaim.

Favorite quote or song lyric:

As a kid I grew up witnessing fear and hatred toward gay men in the 70s and 80s. Now I'm a happily married gay man. I've seen great change in my lifetime and I've helped fight the good fight along the way. This quote is close to my heart: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead

Is there anything else you want anyone to know?

If I'm a new-to-you author, there are plenty of books for you to dip your toe in the water. If you're a rom-com fan, maybe start with The Billionaire's Boyfriend. If you love adventure I'd definitely start with The Cross of Sins, it's been dubbed "Gay Raiders of the Lost da Vinci Code!". If you love mysteries with a touch of comedy you can't go past Buck Baxter, Love Detective. Or if you like romance set in an exotic location, go for The Pearl. There are plenty of other books to try too, so why not give it a go?

Author Spotlight - Noah Steele

Very excited to welcome Noah Steele to the blog today!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Hi! I’m Noah! I’m a young gay man from Toronto, Canada and I’ve been self-publishing for a little over a year and a half now. I’m a big believer in magic, ghosts, aliens, and (thanks to a combo of Sailor Moon and Final Fantasy) the incredible powers of love and friendship! When I’m not writing, I love to paint, sing, work out, and play video games. I also love cats and all kinds of bread! Like, a lot.

How would you describe your brand? What makes one of your books inherently YOU?

I think me and my books are best described as swoony emotional daydreams. They're like contemporary fantasies that just make your heart swell because they're cute and hot and satisfying, and it's that fuzzy afterglow that I think captures what I'm all about.

Tell us about what you're currently working on.

Two major projects! I'm writing the series finale for my instalove Cut to the Feeling series. It's about a college musician (for readers, Theo is getting his HEA!) and a tattooed florist caught up in the craziness of his wealthy family.

I'm also in the outlining stages for a small town friends-to-lovers romance that will be my first non-instalove book, and I'm SO excited about it! The world is becoming so vivid in my mind, it's practically begging to be a series.

If you could dream cast your favorite book into a movie, whether yours or someone else's - what book would it be and who would you cast?

It would be my first book, Racing into Love, and I'd do it with a totally queer cast of unknown actors. I tried to do a dream cast recently and it was mostly straight actors who look similar to the guys I've written, but I would LOVE for it to be a cast of queer actors who really just embody the spirit of my guys.

What is the weirdest place you've ever written before?

Oh my god, this really quirky house right by Lake Ainslie in Nova Scotia. I was on a retreat with two of my friends who are artists, and this house was nuts. The stairs made me feel like I was gonna fall through them, the showers had spiders I had to learn to love, there was an entire room that was just floor-to-ceiling VHS tapes and an old TV.

What does the writing process look like for you? What comes first? How do you start? When do you know you have a good idea vs a dream?

The characters always come first, way ahead of anything else. I'm a pantser learning to be a better plotter, and I've been a vivid dreamer all my life, so it's easy to imagine people! From there, I do a lot of workshopping both solo and with a local group of good friends who are also authors to really nail down plot points I may or may not stick to. I also totally believe that good ideas and dreams are the same thing! A good idea is just a dream with enough accessible stuff in it to market.

If you could write about any character or story that you haven't written about yet, what would it be and why?

I'm a really avid video gamer and would lose my whole mind if I got to write character concepts or a script for a Final Fantasy game. Like, I could literally die seven seconds later and I would be totally fine with it because I got to be part of something that has shaped so much of me over the years. To be able to give back and create an experience that combines Final Fantasy with me wanting to make everything gay and happy would just be the best.

Which of your characters do you think is the most under appreciated and why?

Beckett! I think a lot of people forget Beckett exists, because he's the main character in a novella that I can't add to the series list on Amazon, so people might be missing his story in Acts of Love. He doesn't have a huge personality or killer good looks. He's just a nervous college boy in over his head with a guy he never thought would look his way trying to figure out his feelings before something tries to pull them apart. He's a bit understated, but I think he's one of my most relatable guys.

What is your favorite book? One of yours and one of someone else's.

My favorite that I've written is Visions of Love. Marc, my heavy-hearted law school dropout turned barista, is going through some really tough stuff, and the book is as much about him learning to trust on the friends who want to connect with him as much as it is about Marc learning to love again when he meets flirty Scottish artist Connor.

A favorite read I always recommend to others is Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus. I'm a big fan of urban fantasy, magical realism, and paranormal/supernatural reads, and I think about the intensity and emotional impact of The Night Circus a lot. It's so memorable!

Favorite show to binge watch?

The one I go back to semi-regularly is Charmed, because I watched it growing up and got my boyfriend hooked when we met a decade ago. My latest binge was Rita, this amazing Danish show about a teacher who is really rough around the edges and has a lot going on, but she has the biggest heart and cares so much.

What movie have you seen more times than you want to admit?

Josie and The Pussycats, which is a perfect film!!!

Favorite quote or song lyric:

From MUNA's Pink Light: "But there's a pink light in my apartment It comes mid-morning as a reminder That at the right time, in the right surroundings I will be lovely, but I can't help thinking"

Is there anything else you want anyone to know?

Just that your support and readership mean a lot to me. I didn't have representation in the media as a gay man while I was growing up. Whenever I did, it was always something portrayed as negative or shameful or difficult that had to be overcome and tolerated in order to be happy, and that is just not true. You reading the kinds of gay romances I find so much joy in writing makes me feel so full and so happy, and it's a really powerful statement that queer joy is important to celebrate

I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.

Reed’s days are full of unexpected surprises - pretty par for the course as the principal of the only Catholic school in a small town, but there’s one surprise he wasn’t prepared for, and that was Dominic O’Halloran.

God help me, I want you.

Dominic has spent decades thinking about the life he could have lived. What if he’d not been an orphan? What if he’d been adopted? What if his best friend Reed hadn’t been torn out of his life when they were teens? But as an adult, he’s focused on the things he can control - his faith, his calling, and his pride.

If you still want me, then I’ll have you.

Finally together after a lifetime apart, Dominic and Reed find themselves in a state of emotional upheaval, complicated by the rules of their religions. Reed is terrified of losing his soul, and Dominic, his heart, but neither of them are willing to give up on the second chance they’ve been given without first enjoying a taste of sin.

Forgive me, Father; it appears I’ve sinned.

He tasted like…

He tasted how he sounded. Like agony and heaven and the promise of destruction and assembly all in one. Jackson sealed his lips around the head of Taylor’s cock and sucked until he was spent and dry.
