Author Spotlight - EM Denning
I'm very pleased to have one of my best friends and frequent collaborators, EM Denning as the first author in my new limited spotlight series, featuring a new author interview every Sunday.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I am the slightly less salty half of the Hawthorne/Denning writer duo who brought you classics like Future Fake Husband and Irreplaceable. If you like errant street crabs and panties you should read our books. Don't worry, the crabs aren't the BAD kind of crabs, and no panties and crabs cross paths.
How would you describe your brand? What makes one of your books inherently YOU?
I write sweet fluffy books that are also really hot. Basically I'm a filthy marshmallow.
Tell us about what you're currently working on.
I'm currently writing a lot of things, but at the top of the stack is a book featuring two femboys. It's really about finding yourself and loving yourself.
If you could dream cast your favorite book into a movie, whether yours or someone else's - what book would it be and who would you cast?

What is the weirdest place you've ever written before?
I live in a small town and there's not really a lot of weird places to go. I have written smut while sitting in the lobby of the swimming pool while my kids had lessons.
What does the writing process look like for you? What comes first? How do you start? When do you know you have a good idea vs a dream?
I get an idea, then I start writing. I obsess for a little while, before eventually turning into a mass of quivering insecurity and writer's doubt, then before I know it, I've finished the book. No plot, no problem. My characters lead the way.
If you could write about any character or story that you haven't written about yet, what would it be and why?
I have an idea about a cello player I've started no less than a dozen times. I'll get there one day.
Which of your characters do you think is the most under appreciated and why?
Nick. He's this bridge between Andrew and Rory. He's both the storm and the calm and I don't think enough people love him the way he deserves.
What is your favorite book? One of yours and one of someone else's.
Favorite of mine is What He Hides because I fucking adore Everett and Xavier.
Favorite of someone else's.... that list is like 20 books long, but I'll say For Real by Alexis Hall, which surprises exactly no one.
Favorite show to binge watch?
I... don't really binge watch anything. I barely watch TV. Um... Shark Week?
What movie have you seen more times than you want to admit?
Dirty Dancing. Ever After. Gladiator. Mrs Winterbourne
Favorite quote or song lyric:
Favorite song lyric is probably "If you were church, I'd get on my knees" it's from the Fall Out Boy song, Church. I love their lyrics.
Is there anything else you want anyone to know?
I can be bribed with cheese. I'm like a dog, I'm highly food motivated.

He dragged his hand through Leonidas’s hair, his fingertips tracing gently at the bone behind his ear as they slid down to the side of his neck. Leonidas purred, a fucking deep and feral noise that vibrated out of his mouth and through Andy’s hand. He moved his fingers slowly, tickling at the spot he’d just caressed, and Leonidas made the sound again.
“Mmmn,” he mused, dropping his hand away. “My little lion.”

“I can’t,” he repeated, desperate for his answer to be final. If he stayed, he’d be ruined. It was already going to hurt him, which was preposterous, but he needed to sever this now. There was a fine line between lust and love and want, and Andy didn’t know which he was feeling. His heart thumped steadily, if not rapidly, and thought it might be love, but his brain knew that was ridiculous, and his cock just…wanted.
“I understand.” Leonidas leaned back on the balls of his feet, his chest bare and smooth in the morning light, then he lowered himself down, hunching over and taking Andy’s shoe laces between his nimble fingers. He laced and tied each of Andy’s sneakers, and Andy sat on his hands to stop himself from reaching for Leonidas.
When Andy’s shoes were tied, Leonidas petted his hands down the tops of Andy’s feet and looked up, a sad smile on his face.
“There you are then, Sir,” Leonidas whispered.
