Love + Tranquility

Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.—Mary Anne RadmacherThe past two months have been filled with various experiences that have pushed my edges, opened my heart, and left me disappointed—all rolled into one. I guess that’s this thing we call life, right?

From finding out that the farmette I’d fallen in love with was on a flood plain, to hosting The Last Pig film screening, to spending time with Mom and a gorgeous group in tropical Costa Rica, to learning brush lettering, to forcing my first paper whites, to getting rear ended on a country road, to completing a six-month Positive Psychology program, to starting a garden, to detoxing, to returning to ballet. Whew!

Life is messy and, yet, when I review my varied experiences, I find it helpful to focus on its continued unfolding. The interconnectedness. The lessons. The opportunities. The dreams. And the ways to move forward.

I chose an assortment of photos to speak to these various experiences and wanted to share resource links that I thought you, too, may find helpful.

As we move into this brand new week, notice what wants attention. Does your body crave movement or fresh whole foods? Does your mind need quiet? Are you wanting connection or solitude?

Over the past few months I’ve learned to notice, name, and then navigate what’s going on internally. It clears the cobwebs, provides clarity, and turns off autopilot for that brief moment.

Wishing you love and tranquility. And a long soak in the tub. Preferably with scented bubbles. Bisous. x

Detox: Day 7

Beyond nutrition, beauty is fed with your breath, your thoughts, and the way you sleep, move, feel, and even digest.—From Eat Pretty by Jolene Hart

We did it! Today is the final day of our 7-day detox.

While I definitely had some missteps {hello vegan ginger scones from Teaism}, I drank green smoothies, ate rice and steamed veggies, consumed salads, drank hot water with lemon, savored soaks in the tub, went to ballet and yoga classes, ate mostly unprocessed foods, and wrote in my journal.

Most of these practices are fairly typical for me. However, I’ll often succumb to the bakery across the street from my office or add a sweet treat to a meal and this week I made a conscious effort {despite a couple breakdowns} to stay on track.

Although I must confess, since last night I’ve had visions of consuming a large vegan pizza in celebration tonight.

Overall I definitely feel lighter, I was only hungry midday when I hadn’t filled my belly with enough snacks such as honeycrisp apple slices with all-natural crunchy peanut butter, raw almonds, or kale chips.

After tonight’s pizza {don’t judge}, I plan to use this momentum to take me into spring with more awareness and discipline to fill my body with beautiful, fresh, unprocessed fuel.

We’ve already started our spring cleaning {internally} and now let’s welcome the blooms that are sure to follow! Healthier habits, less inflammation, happy belly, less harm to the environment, glowing skin, more energy, fewer mood swings {darn sugar}, less suffering of animals.

Thanks for joining me for a meal, a day, a few days, or the full detox. I hope you, too, have found this reset enlightening. Bisous. x

Spring Style + Cleaning

Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.—William Morris

This month we’re exploring style and beauty in Year of Tranquility. It’s a BIG topic and, of course, we’re focusing on inner beauty, along with the outer. Hence the 7-day detox that started on Saturday! Talk about getting our insides ready for spring!

On Sunday I hosted a TranquiliT spring collection show + tell featuring the five pieces above and shared ways to mix and match various pieces to get multiple looks. You can watch the replay *and* see Gizmo in his hot pink bow tie here.

When I think spring style, I also think spring cleaning. A regular closet review helps to curb unnecessary spending {oops, I already had a white tank!}, let go of unused pieces taking up space, reorganize, and make sure your wardrobe fits your current lifestyle.

Recently I took an afternoon to do a deep closet clean and the results are featured in the top image. To the left are my tops, followed by bottoms {mainly skirts}, and then dresses.

Having a capsule wardrobe helps ensure everything I own mixes and matches well from the denim shirt with a thrifted pink ball gown skirt, to all the black pieces, to the stripes with solids or a thrifted black/white floral midi skirt. Here’s how to create your own capsule wardrobe and here’s TranquiliT’s 11-piece capsule wardrobe.

After the closet reorg, I shipped three boxes to friends stuffed with items I thought they’d like, three bags for my seamstress {she shares the goodies with her family}, and a bag for Goodwill. And, wowza, my closet felt so much lighter! The white dresser holds socks, intimates, leggings, shorts, 2in1 tops, graphic tees, and bed linens.

Here’s my annual closet cleaning process as shared yesterday with Year of Tranquility:

Pull everything out of your closet.

Next, separate everything into assorted piles.

1. Keepers: These are your staples. They fit, look good on you, match your lifestyle, and go with various pieces in your closet. Hang them back up in your closet as you go.

2. Donate/Swap: These are the items that you once loved, thought you’d love, or simply don’t fit you or your lifestyle anymore. Take them off hangers, fold them up and set them aside. I love gifting these items to friends and/or donating to a local charity or thrift shop.

3. Trash: These are ratty or damaged pieces. Let them go. Fold them up and set them aside.

4. Repair/Alter: These are those pieces that need a little TLC. Maybe an alteration would make the item more wearable?  Or a stain stick to see if that wine stain will come out? Set these items aside.

5. Not sure: These are the pieces you just can’t decide about. Don’t love them, don’t hate them, but haven’t worn in years. Again, set these items aside if you’re becoming overwhelmed.

Organize your keepers by color and category (ex. tops, bottoms, dresses). Or if you’re doing a cupboard, organize your toiletries by type (ex. hair, face, body) and linens by type (ex. tablecloths, pillow cases, sheets).

Set those “special occasion” items like ski wear, beach wear, and formal wear toward the back of the closet unless you live near a resort or beach. It’s good to have these pieces easily accessible, but not taking up the precious real estate of your staples.

Toss your trash items, pass along your donate/swap items, fix your repair/alter items, and contemplate those not sure items. You may reach decision fatigue during this process, so feel free to circle back to those not sure items. Sometimes a little space with help to make the right decision.

As stated in the upper quote, have nothing in your home {including closet} that isn’t useful and beautiful. Here’s to spring cleaning and style that shows the world who are you. Bisous. x

Hello TranquiliT Spring

Create your own style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.—Anna Wintour

Since 2004, each spring and fall I release a few new designs and colors in the TranquiliT collection—a locally-sewn clothing line made to order using luxurious organic eco-friendly fabrics.

The process from conception to launch takes a few months. It begins with reviewing what’s trending that season, what clients are asking for (hello, duster), and what I’m wanting added to my closet (hello, ballet wrap).

Next I work with my local seamstress to create samples based on current patterns (ex. the new tulip top is the 2in1 fitted top with tulip sleeves) and my fabric supplier to choose new colors to complement the current palette.

After a bit of back and forth with my seamstress—”taper this,” “shorten that,” “more flare here”—we’re ready for the photo shoot.

For three hours we turn the Pink Palace into a photography studio (see behind the scenes pics here) and, voilà, the collection is ready!

This season’s collection is now available at TranquiliT.com featuring five new designs {tulip top, ballet wrap, compassion tee, duster, jumpsuit} and two new colors {emerald and eclipse}.

THIS Sunday at noon ET I’ll be hosting a brief show and tell of the spring collection on Facebook Live and you’re invited! Learn what’s trending this season {hello, lilac}, see our new pieces, and favorite ways to wear your TranquiliT staples.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend filled with bird chirps, pink blooms, and yellow daffodils. Bisous. x

Tomorrow night at 8pm ET I’m offering a FREE detox kick off call to discuss the process and provide tips based on my previous detox experiences that include the 7-day Detox Diaries, a podcast about it, and a blog post on when I successfully completed my last one. Woo-hoo!
