Can you imagine a world with artificial intelligence ruling the infrastructure of an entire planet? I have, in creating one possible scenario, among many.
Newdawn Roamers depicts a world where our technologically advanced society confronts its near immortality on a planet in turmoil. The novel deals with our human evolution. Our pursuit to maintain a status of masters in the age of the machine brings about our own change. The first volume of the series offers a glimpse of what could be. Nevertheless, this Newdawn saga, based on science fiction with a hint of fantasy, is steeped in science facts.
The transmutation of humanity from the brain of a machine
Artificial Intelligence and its impact on our future occupies the minds of many. Science, technology and innovation pave the way to tomorrow. Today, we can barely envision the outcomes. Yet, our world is at a crossroad. And this moment is crucial. The significance of what we do today lays the groundwork for the next generations. One cannot ignore the ramifications of the research taking place today in labs around the globe. We all know the dangers. We read it in books and have seen it in Hollywood movies. The artificial intelligence reality that confronts us will fundamentally transform our lives and who we become. Take a glimpse at the one scenario from the mind of the author, Dominique Luchart.
Everything we know about artificial intelligence tells us to be cautious. It is a simple fact that this machine evolution can trigger our own demise. Yet, we charge ahead, defining the rules as we search for answers. We probe the possibilities of greater efficiency. Nevertheless, as we step forward into this web of our own making, our newfound knowledge takes us further into an unknown labyrinth. We are conscious of the danger. The flaw in our beliefs
As humans, we see ourselves invulnerable. And why not, we are capable of such grandiose undertakings. Because of that, we forget how fragile we truly are… Artificial Intelligence transforms our business and governmental infrastructures into more efficient automation. This is a great tool, a step toward an easier process for humankind. Or so it seems… But soon, our protocols and safeguards could be isolated by computers smarter than us. Where will we be then? How do we deal with the challenges of a human factor transplanted out of its environment and into one it barely understands? Will we be required to carry implants? Where will that lead us? And if so, how will we adapt?
A shift without a return
Our global workplace experiences a shift even as we speak. It will leave behind a trail of humans by-passed by technology. Indeed, some of us will become so antiquated that society will not know what to do with those unable to keep up. Many will essentially have become obsolete.
The changing digital landscape is already impacting our planet in many fields of endeavors. Science, technology and innovation affect everything we do and touch. It charts a course where evolutionary factors will rise around us to impose a transformation we may not be able to stop. Already, the fabric of our society in the four corners of the globe faces an insidious metamorphosis. We see its effects daily. But do we really perceive the extent of this transmutation?
Our lack of preparedness will haunt us
We are not prepared for this digital transition. The potential disruption of our processes, and the imbalance it will cause within our systems, among people, and companies will be extreme. This widespread A.I. phenomenon exists across all types of industries and fields of endeavors. Anticipating this new landscape and how it will truly work for us is hard enough. This new paradigm, as artificial intelligence becomes an integral tool in the techniques used today for business growth, affects all organizations and many struggle to map our a winning integration game plan, including governments across the globe, without knowing where this will end.
The terms “algorithms, transfer learning, deep learning, neural network, NLP” are the talks in the boardroom meetings. They are used to identify new products in planning sessions for the purpose of creating additional sources of revenues furthering companies’ bottom line. Yet, not enough is discussed about the moral imperatives that such a shift will cause. How does one prepare billions of workers that soon will be displaced? Do we create a transition so that our global population can see its future, a positive one at that, during the age of the machine? Can we trust this new process?
Morality versus immorality
In spite of ethical and societal concerns, one can anticipate that the momentum will carry us forward into uncharted territories. This, whether we are willing or not. Today, artificial intelligence is used widely in the Internet of Things, home devices, robotics, autonomous vehicles, digital assistants, drones and wearable… At the moment, its growing manifestation into our lives remains somewhat undetectable. But as we weave these new mechanisms into place, the old ways of doing things will no longer exist. This is an irreversible fact.
It goes without saying that it is time to understand artificial intelligence. The pros and cons and the dilemmas it will engender. We need an agent of change and require a credible voice to build awareness. Understanding the issues, and becoming the bridge between our world today and the one we write in codes for tomorrow is essential. This agent of change will dive into different scenarios. The anticipation of an A.I. making our lives better, leaving room for more creativity and rewarding individual pursuits is a possibility. The foresight of the insidious presence of an artificial intelligence into our individual minds, controlling every aspect of our lives is another. This is enough to scare us.
How to humanize a machine?
The larger question and one obsessing many minds on the subject is how far will we go in the pursuit of this technology? Most importantly and regardless of either scenarios, there are many things to discuss about artificial intelligence. Let’s begin by providing context…
Machine learning or the ability of a computer to learn without being programmed is indeed useful. It will provide insights to different problems. Deep learning or neural networks and systems is the next step in artificial intelligence. Accordingly, learning like the human brain and creating algorithms, while simulating the firing of brain neurons and performing calculations as well as solving problems, takes the experience of relying on a machine further. But then, we enter the realm of the unknown… with systems that can learn how to perform tasks on their own. This takes us on different roads and to varied outcomes, not all of which are positive.
Therefore, how will we control an artificial intelligence whose brain is more powerful than any human army combined? Danger and fear confronts us because we do not possess the answer. How do we tell a machine born into logic and without human perception, desire, wants and needs that certain ways it calculates, assesses, concludes will not always suit us? How do we apply moral principles to a system that learns on its own and can determine its own path, interpolating, juxtaposing, and deciding without ties to a human element? Only a change in our own humanity, a transformation in our evolution, a transmutation at our level can build this bridge. Are we ready for this?

Change Happens… It is Inevitable
Changes Happens… It is inevitable.
Change Happens. We all know it. The question is how do we deal with it?
It is about accepting change. Similarly, knowing that you cannot stop it no matter what, is the first step to not resisting it. As a matter of fact, this avoids stress… Not only, live the moment, but also do not look at tomorrow. The now is a good place to be. In the now, you are in control of yourself.
In the same fashion, this podcast also talks about the insidious nature of change. Sometimes is jumps up at us and we wonder where is this coming from?? This is part of not always seeing patterns, trends that slowly rise to tip the status quo. I tend to look at that because I want to know what is on the horizon. Still, it is not something for everyone. We do get busy with our lives, and the external things that do not relate directly to us, we ignore. It’s all right. We all have our priorities.
Our society is going through a shift… A very important one. Our science, technology and innovation which is very exciting is paving for us a different way of life. This is a time of transformation and we are at a crossroads. What we do now changes many aspects of our lives and will shape the future. Generations to come will have to deal with the impact of our choices and decisions in a way they never had to… In this fourth industrialized revolution, artificial intelligence among many other things will transform our future. Up until now, we have change the environments around us to make it more convenient for us. Now, we are embarking on a journey to change ourselves.
The drastic shift we are about to make is insidious in nature. Are we ready for it?

Why I love SciFi/Science Fiction – Podcast
Science fiction and science facts.
I love science fiction and I have always loved it. More importantly though, I love scifi because I like to look over the horizon, and determine the shape of things to come. I like to envision trends and market shifts, but mostly, I like to know where we are going.
Why? Well, it is entertaining, but it is also much more than that. It relates to all of us. How? Over centuries, we have focused on changing our environment. Now, we are embarking on something much bigger. With the advances of science and technology, we are entering an era where we will focus on changing ourselves.
Why does it matter? This is a drastic change in our evolution as human beings because this will impact who we become as a species, and how we shape our future.
There will be many things to consider in the years ahead including who do we want to be? With the advances of science and technology, we will have many options. Furthermore, transitioning to keep up with the age of the machine will require an adaptation that could very well transform us.
While our future can be quite bright, making our lives easier with artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, genetic engineering, facial recognition and so much more, it can also go the other way, leaving the next generation open to very difficult challenges. As caretakers of our planet, our intrinsic responsibility is to ensure the survival of all there is on Earth. This can only occur if and when we build enough awareness to engender a shift. The value we give to life, all lives, is squarely at the center of this.
In addition, the moral and ethical imperatives cannot be ignored. Issues of equality, citizenship and privacy are bound to require a lot of consideration, as our societies transform around the globe.

Dominique’s NEWDAWN Interview for Awesome Gang
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written?
NEWDAWN is a series of books. I was born in France and raised in Paris, had the opportunity to study in Montreal, Canada and later in the US… Since then, I have moved back and forth…
I love creating, whether it is about writing, or shooting and editing. My writing tends to be very visual in style. It is suited for TV and Film… at least, this is what I am being told.
I have written about four of the NEWDAWN Saga novels. It is not the only think I have written though, having started to write fiction in the realm of TV and films. Working as an independent producer in Los Angeles for some time, I really wanted to focus on creating the NEWDAWN world, so I started with the books… There is still a long way to go but, I love building this world one piece at the time, and one character at the time… The way I see NEWDAWN, it is very much as a multi-faceted project, almost with a life of its own, as it spans over different modules, in a kind of transmedia way.
I love reading, traveling, kicking back with friends, enjoying good wine and food. You could say that I have a great deal of focus on the future, although I tend to leave one day at the time, taking advantage of the moment… The planet and the environment is something I care about, and I guess one will find that in my work. Animals and nature are important to me… I have created a furry family around me… Cats, dogs… no matter. Currently, I have my two cats, Nieve & Oliver, rescued from the LA river… and they are a big part of my life along with my partner. I have books about them too… Nieve & Oliver Adventures, for kids!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Thinking about the future… NEWDAWN ROAMERS is the first of the NEWDAWN Saga, but it is not the first book I wrote… I wrote NEWDAWN REBOOT first, which happens to be the eight book of the series. Don’t ask me why… It is how the story came to me. I guess you could say, I did a George Lucas, although I am not George Lucas! He is awesome… The way he created Star Wars at the time when technology was just beginning to give us the effects we now have… I am not just partial to that series though because I love Start Trek too. It is followed by NEWDAWN RETRIBUTION, which is also written, but needs editing, and I am now finishing NEWDAWN CENTRAL, the second book of the series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can’t say that I do… Writing about four hours each day is something I set as a goal, but it’s not always possible due to the various aspects of NEWDAWN. First thing in the morning is a great time, when my mind is free from other things, or later at night… I usually reserve afternoon for meetings or marketing. I like to drink coffee, or tea or even a glass of wine when I write at night…
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read since I was a little girl… My mom used to read to me every night. Both my mom and dad gave me an appreciation of books. I used to stay up all night reading… From French authors to American authors, from the great classics to the Sci-Fi genre, they allowed me to travel the world and time even, opening a window into things I never witnessed first-hand. I guess that is what good books are meant to do… giving you a glimpsed of a world you never would experience otherwise. I know you probably want to know what authors, but there are so many of them, naming a few would feel like cheating the others because they all have contributed to who I am today, in some way.
What are you working on now?
I am tweaking NEWDAWN CENTRAL. This is really cool, because in CENTRAL we get to know what happened after the ROAMERS join our world… There is much to discover about Tesh, Chase and Gen… And all the confrontations that go along with it.
I am also writing a reality series about the future. This is something important because science, technology and innovation have changed the landscape of business and we have not yet felt all the effects of this transformation and more is coming, things most people do not have envisioned yet. It is important to realize the path we are on, both personally and with businesses.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still figuring that one out… but I like Instagram. It’s a great visual tool and fun and easy to use. I do Facebook too… I know I need to do more on Pinterest too… But the different websites all have a purpose. My author site www.dominiqueluchart.com is about letting the readers and fans know what is going on with me and the series. The information site www.newdawnworld.net is about letting the fans know what is happening in the world of NEWDAWN. The www.windhorse.net site is about our production work with the NEWDAWN brand. The www.windommedia.com is all about what we are building with our partners both on the reality side and the fiction side… and is more business… And of course the www.newdawnstore.com is where we are selling the books and merchandise and soon virtual products too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t stop writing! Sometimes you feel like you will never get it done, and it can get daunting. Just focus on one word, one paragraph, one page at the time…
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write and keep writing! It’s true. Don’t think about making it perfect. It will never be perfect. I wish it wasn’t so… But the truth is that is can always be better. You can tweak forever. Still, at some point, you have to let it go. Do your best and release it.

I don’t know how to answer this question… It’s like asking me what are my favorite films… I like many for different reasons, each giving me a little piece of something worthwhile. For books it is the same. Science fiction books definitely… Maybe one or two classics…

The Origin program stands separate from the others. Tesh, head of the Institute’s conclave is selected to lead a team and enter the safety complex with her friends Leane, Streak, and Blast. Their mandate… change the future using their powers and training. In the darkness of their pods they leave behind everything they know… And await, in the deep sleep of their Cryogenic freeze to awaken somewhere in 2018 as ROAMERS.
