YouTube says video claiming Trump won does not violate its election misinformation policies, Julia Alexander

YouTube says a video claiming President Donald Trump won the election does not violate any of its policies and has allowed it to stay on the platform, despite the election not being called by major news outlets for either candidate yet. The decision stands in contrast to Twitter and Facebook’s more aggressive attempts to clamp down on misleading claims and misinformation over election results.

The video, titled “Trump Won. MSM hopes you don’t believe your eyes,” was published by pro-Trump network One American News Network (OANN) on Wednesday. YouTube says the video violates its advertising guidelines but not its content policies, so it can stay online but will run without ads, the company confirmed to The Verge. The story was first…

Get the old Google icons back with this Chrome extension, Ian Carlos Campbell

Life is in constant flux, but experiencing change during the extremely uncertain time we’re all going through is especially maddening. Luckily, you can still eke out some semblance of control in your web browser — this new Chrome extension created by designer Claudio Postinghel lets you replace Google’s newly redesigned but confusingly similar icons for the old ones (via Gizmodo).

When it was announced in early October, we described Google’s big rebrand of G Suite as a way to set up the search giant’s products to better compete with Microsoft Office. Yet the newly named Google Workspace brought a collection of redesigned, cohesive app icons that — in my opinion, and that of my coworkers — are very difficult to recognize from a distance.

Physicists from Leiden University have 3D-printed a miniature version of an Intrepid-class starship from Star Trek (via PC Gamer). The idea of a tiny starship is probably something you haven’t considered outside of the plot of a Star Trek episode, but this microscopic model is actually part of a larger research experiment the physicists published in the scientific journal Soft Matter.

The five micrometer long ship looks like the USS Voyager and was microprinted by the physicists for their microswimmer research. Unlike the impulse engines and warp drive of its TV counterpart, this Voyager is propelled through liquid by chemical reactions between its platinum coating and the hydrogen peroxide solution the physicists placed it in. Twitter restricts Trump campaign official’s tweet alleging Philadelphia voter fraud, Adi Robertson

Twitter is warning users about misleading tweets from Philadelphia’s polling locations, offering an early preview of how it will handle the rest of the night. The platform has already restricted a tweet from Trump’s director of election day operations, Mike Roman, among others.

“Misinformation being spread online has driven more calls to the Election Task Force hotline than actual incidents at polling sites,” complained the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office to New York Times reporter Nick Corasaniti.

Roman posted a video showing a woman in Philadelphia apparently returning multiple ballots to a dropbox and claimed Democrats were “trying to STEAL THE ELECTION in broad daylight.” But Philadelphia DAO spokeswoman Jane Roh noted that…

The Pixel 5 automatically turns into a wireless charging pad when you plug in a USB-C cable, Chaim Gartenberg

The Pixel 5 is one of several flagship phones to offer a reverse wireless charging feature, but Google’s done something particularly clever with its implementation of the feature here: whenever you plug in a USB-C cable, your Pixel 5 will automatically turn on its reverse wireless charging feature, effectively turning it into a Qi charging pad, as spotted by 9to5Google.

Google is pretty smart about how it handles the automated feature: according to a support doc, Battery Share will only turn on for “a short period.” If the phone detects another Qi-compatible device has been placed on top to charge, it’ll work as usual, otherwise it’ll automatically turn Battery Share off.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t use reverse wireless charging…

Better Days Ahead

I hope you are staying safe out there. What a time we live in…  I am saddened by all the heartbreak we witness. It’s not fun out there, not remotely inspiring, and our challenges seem to be increasing daily. Our isolation is not easy for anyone, and more than ever we need to reach out to each other to ensure that we share all the good old fashion values America was built upon. I believe they exist still in all of us. Life is a cycle, and cycles come and go, and soon we will get out of this crazy, irrational, dividing moment in our history as human beings. I certainly hope so.

Departing For Better Shores

But until then, a time to escape a few minutes each day seems right to me. So, I selected an excerpt of NEWDAWN that I thought fit our times. In many ways, NEWDAWN carries these important values, portraying our world as science and technologies take us on a new path, while we hold on to our humanity. And sharing a little bit of the NEWDAWN spirit makes sense to me, even if in Ang things are not all rosy.

In a way, the period in which we live reminds me of Tesh’s struggle as she watches her world disintegrate under her very eyes… These few words are the essence of the NEWDAWN series.

 

Take a moment for yourself, come with me into the future as I share an excerpt of
  NEWDAWN ROAMERS:
 

“The Universal Pledge called for us to be as we are to oneself, caring and respectful, loving and tolerant, generous, and responsible. I was about to break that rule for the benefit of another. We ethically refuse to destroy other life forms, whatever the reason, and remain receptive to the teachings we recognize as essential in pursuing our life goals.

My father had taught me the value of beliefs, the set of principles upon which one must build their life. And most of all, respect for life, all lives. He inspired in me habits like not rushing to conclusions or judging. Questioning what appears set, for nothing truly is. Looking upon everyone as your friend, no matter the status they hold. Finding the alternatives, for they always exist. Seeking the truth of the moment behind appearances for there is always one reason. Steering my life in such a direction that I never regret action or inaction. Keeping my heart open, but steeling myself against expectations. Never, ever losing the core and essence of who I am once I recognize it. He taught me to live… Not solely exist.

My mother had instilled in me a code of conduct that paved my upbringing in such a way that DAINN chose me. Act like you want other people to act. Give respect to those who deserve it, politeness to others. Unless you find the one you want to share everything with, keep your thoughts to yourself… Command when there are no alternatives; otherwise, rally and lead. Follow the outcomes your soul seeks, but allow your heart to pave the way, and your head to learn the steps.

Throughout their lives, both of my parents had behaved under the Pledge. The Universal Pledge dictated our actions, even when those became unpopular among our community. My family never faltered under pressure.

The Pledge guided a particular way of being. It was bestowed upon us by our predecessors. As one passes through this life, we remained caretakers of each other and our planet, respecting life, every life which became our goal, and the ultimate fulfillment. Aspiring to that thing was the thing.

But circumstances called for actions that went against these fundamental rules. In these dreadful instances, some departed from the Pledge, ignoring its guidance. My parents had never agreed with that stance. No matter the problem. They had always looked for a different way as individuals. This position gave them an unpopular status among our leaders. I was about to do the same.

My commitment to preserving life outweighs my loyalty to my friends, and I hated it.”

I am so excited to bring you the latest news on NEWDAWN CENTRAL as the final days of editing move on. We are in the final stages as copy edits have been turned on and we are now going over them.  After that, one more stage before the manuscript gets locked!

Dream Readers For CENTRAL

The ECR (Early Readers Copy) will be provided next and of course, for those of you who are new to my process, here is how we proceed on that… My early reader’s group received the FREE copy of NEWDAWN CENTRAL in return for a REVIEW. Stay tuned for more information on this. I will provide details as soon as I can.

Editing The Novel…

This is a step that demands a lot of details and a lot of feedback. So I finished the manuscript, but now we are into fine-tuning everything.

This step includes multiple phases. For those of you not totally in the loop on copy edits, the manuscript is written, with plots, characters, and storyline pretty much set in stone (although I have been known to tweak even that stage).

At the moment, we are going over language, tone, dialog, word choice, and grammar. We review every sentence, punching things up and shortening where needed.

Other Eyes Make A Huge Differences

An editor specializes in copy edits, typos, and such… It makes a huge difference because at this time I know the copy so well that I don’t see everything. 

Checking the latest manuscript from top to bottom also allow me to focus on continuity as one of the last passes. This is one crucial key for me because there are so many characters coming into the story, with each of them having their back story, the point in which they enter the timeline of NEWDAWN, and of course, their specific setting. I deal with several years at the same time, so keeping track of my timeline demands a map.

Keeping The Characters In Line With Their Fundamental Roles

There is one thing I like to do about my characters. Because I deal in the future, and I work within the DAINN System as the backdrop for the story, I like to create their Academy Profile under the DAINN Network. At this point, I review their style sheet which delivers everything, their personality, characteristics, look and feel, how they are described when they show up inside the timeline and plots, and who they are…  This is super helpful to me because I am dealing with so many interweaving and overlapping POV’s.

As part of this step, I thought I would share something fun with all my readers regarding these NEWDAWN characters. To provide visual information, I started creating their Academy Profile within the DAINN Network which looks like a futuristic tablet with the picture of each of them. Actually, you may have already received the one I made for Tesh. If not, it may be that you subscribed to the emails after it was already sent, but don’t worry, I plan on publishing many more and catching you up on all of them in the near future with a Special Edition Compilation.

Formatting The Various Books

When we get done with copy edits, we begin the proofs stage for the EBooks, the Paperback and the Hardback. I will be going over each manuscript, the way it will look, as a final book.
