lucky13-452:

Since the beginning of time, tales have been told about Eden. But all the stories are wrong.

Running
parallel alongside Earth, but never touching, there exists not just a
garden, but an entire world of vivid colours and breathtaking beauty
where the Seraph reside.

Jazmine has lived in ten different
foster homes, in ten different towns and all her life she has felt like
she doesn’t belong – not in the trailer park which happens to be foster
home number ten, not anywhere on Earth.

After a universe
shattering revelation, she discovers why. Far from being the nothing and
no one, with no past and no future, that Jazmine had always believed
herself to be, she discovers that she is in fact an heir to one of the
seven remaining Seraph Dynasties.

She is Jazmine Evenstar, the last heir to the sovereign Evenstar Dynasty.

Thrust
into the world of wealth and privilege in which the impossibly
beautiful and equally cruel Dynasty heirs reside, Jazmine is forced to
manoeuvre the tangled web that holds the Dynasties together.

Against
the backdrop of breathtaking star filled nights, sweeping coastlines,
grand marble halls and decadent palaces, Jazmine tries to find her place
in this beautiful new world whilst fighting not to lose herself in the
process.

But the fairy tale quickly unravels.

Half human
and the illegitimate daughter of the late suicide King of Eden, the
other Dynasty heirs make it clear that Jazmine does not belong in their
world.

Raphael St. Tristan, heir to the rival sovereign St.
Tristan Dynasty and next in line to the throne of Eden, the guy with the
face of an angel but who is as wicked as the devil himself, promises to
break her.

Jazmine quickly learns that the beauty of Eden is
nothing but a deception as she uncovers the secrets festering at the
heart of it. But can she disentangle herself from the web of deception
and intrigue that the Dynasty heirs have spun? Can she stop herself from
falling into Raphael St. Tristan’s trap before he can fulfil his
promise to shatter her completely? Or are those stories about Eden true
after all and will she be foolish enough to taste the forbidden fruit
that is Eden itself?

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and this doesn’t in any way influence my opinion on it.

Secret Heir is the first book in the Dynasty trilogy by MJ Prince and let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was so good and I hope I my review does the book just because if you like a steamy new adult supernatural read then this book will be right up your ally. This Romeo and Juliet meets Gossip Girl with elemental magic and a shocking twist.

Jazmine is a seventeen year old in the foster care, she has been there since the day her mother died. She has moved from foster home to foster home never really feeling like she fit in anywhere. Then out of nowhere a guy shows up claiming unbelievable things and whisks her way to her new home on Eden. Eden is parallel to Earth but looks a lot like paradise. Underneath all the beauty lie darkness and Jazmine needs to keep her wits about her if she is to survive.

I cannot tell you how involved I got in this book, I was so emotionally connected that at times I couldn’t even continue because I got the part in books where everything looks like it was gonna go real bad for a character you cared about. Jazmine is a character that is so close to my heart because she actual has good sense for the most part (except when she is totally ignoring it) and doesn’t take shit from anyone. She stands up for herself and gets revenge when need. Jazmine doesn’t let the bullies get to her and she tries her best not to let outside influences get to her. She is a strong character who, in this readers will see, take down some of the many walls she had built up around herself.

Raphael St. Tristan is the “it man” on campus, all girls want him and most guys want to be him. Raph is apart of one of the seven sovereign dynasty on the island and of the seven only the St. Tristans and Evenstar dynasties actually wear the crown and Raph was it, the heir to the crown. I am not gonna I though Raph was a butt in the beginning and dang it if he didn’t wear me down. With is personality and action and he is a weird little tidbit, even though he is described as having blond hair I kept picturing him with dark hair, I couldn’t shake that image. Don’t you hate that as a reader you picture one thing, feeling one thing only later realize the author was imaging something totally different.

This part of Eden (with the dynasty) is all about the lifestyle of the rich and royal. I can’t believe the decadent description of the new life Jazmine was living and it very much reminded me of Gossip Girl but on a grander scale. However Jazmine never got caught up in the fast paced life and I loved that. I also grew to love some of the other characters and some of them surprised me so much especially a certain male dog who turns out to be a puppy.

I was so involved with the plot because things kept changing on me. Just when I think something was going to happen something else happened and I was trying to figure things out but could only piece together certain things. As for the writing, it was okay but sometimes the reactions was repetitive but I didn’t mind it. My only problem is that I wish Jazmine could have interacted with Dani a little more, to show a stronger connection and I wish that Magnus was written in a little more because it seems like it would have been more natural for Jazmine to spend more time with him than she did. The characters were the best because I got such a clear picture as to how everyone was supposed to be represented and I like the interactions that came about.

Secret Heir is a Romeo and Juliet story that has been turned on its head and totally remade. This book had wild parties, hardcore pranks, steamy hot romance that would make you blush, snippy comments, cruel plots, elemental magic, schemes, danger and betrayal that took my breath away. With the shocking cliffhanger that I just been through there is no way I can wait for the second book in the series I need it now because my emotions are screaming at me, I am feeling all the feels right now. Someone make it stop.

Overall 4 stars
