Review - Virgin Mate by Tia Didmon

Review Virgin Mate by Tia Didmon

Oh, my!  This is my first ever erotic paranormal romance!

Yes. I love watching True Blood, The Originals etc.  But until now, my reading has been mainly chicklit, romcom, and mystery.

The Good

What a sex fest! Holy cow, Batman!

I thought the name Talen was wonderful and I enjoyed his jealousy.  Even though there was a lot of shagging - there was a story behind this and it worked well.  The reason the bite worked - was explained well and there was no over explanation in this book.  I loved the way the dogs were rescued and my cozy story side loved the inclusion of the younger brother with issues at the end.

The Bad.

I liked Lucy - but she did have flaws.  She needed money and a job. Then she went all crazy and a fighter and then she became wifey at the end.

Wifey, was a bit too wifey - but you will have to read it and see if you agree.  Maybe this is a shifter trait.  Also, I needed more on the brother and what happened to him - maybe that is coming in the next book?  I would have liked just a bit on the dangers of the breed.

The Ugly.

This is a very erotic fantasy. I was only out of my comfort zone with the second mating - but, I am a chubby mum of two! If you love erotic and paranormal, I enjoyed this one. Though it was my first ever book like this - I do want to read more.

The length of the book is perfect for busy people!

Review - Prelude by Chariss K. Walker

My Review - Prelude

This is the second book I have read by this author and this one was very different for a younger audience.  The first book gripped me on the very first page and I loved it.  This one started off quite lovely dovey with the relationship between brother and sister. I made the mistake of thinking that I wouldn't like it - then started to read it at bed-time and stayed awake till 2 am, finishing it!

The Good
I loved the premise of Alec. The angel and demonic side, the family history and everything that he embodied.

The Bad
Sabrina's choice of work did not gel with me at all. The fact that Alec accepted it, made me very angry.
Why could Cassidy make it and not Sabrina - in something different? I was with the best friend (Chaz) on this one and seriously frustrated by that in the book!

Danae's story and parents were slipped in the end and the death of the mother downplayed. I realize in book one you need to set the scene for the series but jumping from meeting to her death was too much for me!

The Ugly
Demon or Angel?
I loved the paranormal aspect of this book. I am still getting to grips with it as I don't usually read this genre - despite being a huge Buffy fan!
I love the idea of the gift and the granddad and wanted more and more of that. Alec - definitely not ugly. Apart from his acceptance of Sabrina - he was a hero!

Review - A Garden in Cornwall by Laura Briggs

A Garden in Cornwall CoverA Garden in Cornwall (A Wedding in Cornwall Book 12)

With their lives exactly what they've always dreamed, Matt and Julianne await the arrival of the third member of their family but their happiness is threatened when their landlady Mathilda announces her intention to sell their beloved Rosemoor Cottage for an impossible value. Devastated, Julianne struggles to accept the cold reality of her and Matt making their home elsewhere.

Matt's life has taken a new turn as he finally puts aside his academic work to pursue his gardening hobby as a career:  his first new job as a landscape designer involves neglected Penwill Hall's 'lost' garden one with a truly romantic Cornish past. But the task of restoring its legendary beauty from nearly seventy years ago proves difficult among the ruins lost in weeds and wilderness.

With notions of secret gardens and wartime stories echoing in her thoughts, Julianne is determined to help Matt and the estates new owner after the discovery of a hidden mural in the hall itself, depicting a breathtaking garden that may well be the lost one. Her efforts to uncover the past lead her to a curmudgeonly local gardener who just may hold the knowledge that would restore the 'lost garden' to its former glory. Will Julianne's quest help her find a way to deal with losing the home she loves?

Hellos and farewells abound as Dinah returns to lend a helping hand at Cliffs House and Julianne relives her favourite memories of her and Matt's beloved cottage in Book Twelve the final instalment in the bestselling series A WEDDING IN CORNWALL.

A Garden In CornwallMy Review - A Garden in Cornwall by Laura Briggs

This book offers so much - American woman in the UK
A pregnant American woman in love with England and its gardens
Lovely caring husband
Touches on house prices in the UK
The pain of the past
Secret gardeners
Class issues
Lady Amanda
More class issues.

The Good
This is a lovely read.
This is not an action-packed beach read, but more of a cup of tea in the garden book. It is sweet and well written.

The Bad
Lowoth, Lawgthe, Lawthen - I can't even remember what it was exactly -but when they thought of baby names - I needed a shot of Vodka. Good grief, poor child.

The Ugly
As I said at the start, the book touches on so many issues that are relevant in the UK today - that I found it realistic. The end was open, and I could see another book - baby in Boston or something on the agenda.

4-5 Stars - I read this as part of a blog tour!

Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by the baddies. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosies brand new series of novellas is centred on life in a village caf. Summer at The Little Duck Pond Caf, published on 18th June 2018, follows the first in the series, Spring at The Little Duck Pond Caf.

My Review Raving About Rhys - Jessica Redland

Is Rhys real? Or is he Mickey Mouse? You will have to read the book to find out! Yes, enough wit from me.. But the book put me in a good mood, and I might have added a bit of gin to my tea afterward! No, seriously, this is a fun novella that will appeal to the masses.

The Good
Read it in one go, in the sun in the garden. Very easy and charming to read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Bad
Why are some women fools who stay with the wrong men? That bit drove me mad -but lured me in at the same time and made me want to read more.

The Ugly
Getting caught with your pants down!  Don't delay - read this today!

All in all, I loved this novella, classic charming chicklit.
5 Stars - I read this as part of a blog tour

I am so delighted that Six Tinder Weeks Blog has an exclusive extract from the book!  Here it is!

Six Tinder Weeks extract

This extract takes place when Amy goes to her parents house to ask for a babysitter.

Eloise Galbraith was newly retired but an old world battle-axe.

"Dad in?" I asked as I tried not to look panicked at the thought of it just being the two of us.

"Of course, your mother is only interested in her father. Poor old Granny would never do, would she Arthur?"

"Please don't passive-aggressively talk about me to my child."

"For goodness sake, don't be so sensitive. He's not here, he's in the garage tinkering with something or probably smoking again."

My father didn't smoke, my father has never smoked. He once found an empty cigarette packet in the back of his taxi at the end of the night and left them sitting on the bench in the garage, meaning to dispose of them when he finished cleaning out the back of the car.

My mother found them and has accused him of being a secret smoker for 17 years now.

"Don't roll your eyes at me, Amy. You inherited those from me when you came screaming into the world after 39 hours of excruciating labour - WITH FORCEPS - none of this namby-pamby, epidural nonsense in my day. Back then you were a real woman."

"Mum I'm 32, you're not referring to the dark ages when you talk about the good old days' of childbirth it was the eighties - and I had two emergency sections, I hardly took a tablet and sneezed either of them out. Although I have been neglecting my pelvic floor exercises as of late, so if I was ever tempted to go for a third, then I could probably manage it."

"I'm doing mine now."

"What? Gross. Mum!"

"What? You'll never find your father straying because of a loose vagina at home."

"No, Mum he will be found wandering the roads to get away from the mad woman who keeps talking to him about her vagina loose or not."

"Should I come back later?" My pale-faced father said as he entered the kitchen at the point of me saying vagina' a little louder than one should in polite conversation.

James Galbraith was a taxi driver and a saint. Yes, I was biased. During my teenage years, the house was like a battlefield in the never-ending war with my mother. He always played peacekeeper but I couldn't wait until the day I could escape to university and never come back. I still hated coming back now.

I don't know how their relationship worked, how could he keep warm at night with a stubborn ice queen as a bedmate. But, if I was honest with myself, the answer was obvious: they loved each other.

That, and her tight vagina, apparently.

Once the three of us had settled onto the chairs surrounding the kitchen island I waited to hear who had died the only conversation my parents like to have in my company.

When I was single it was informing me which of my classmates were getting married, but now that I've reached the grand old age of 32, and I have dependents of my own, I now only need to know about who has kicked the bucket.

"Have you heard about Jihadi Paddy from up the road?"

Choking on my tea and hoping against hope that I had misheard my mother, I asked her to repeat the question.

"Jihadi Paddy," she said, "big brute of a fella that lives up the road with the woman who looks like she's been chewing a wasp her whole life Cathy something, I think."

I stared blankly and waited for her to continue.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.

"I'm waiting to hear about the Islamic extremist who is living around the corner."

"What? There is? Who?"

"Jihadi Paddy?"

"God, no. He's not one of them, he belongs to the born-again lot. He used to be on the beer daily and had a bit of a gambling problem, but I don't think he's planning on blowing anyone up. Well, I don't think so anyway."

"I'm genuinely confused as to where this conversation is going, mum."

"Hush then. Well, he was doing one of his shouty sermons in the bandstand in the park on Saturday when your father and I were walking by."

"Did he threaten you? Or was he giving out about the freedom us pesky women enjoy in the Western world?" I asked.

"What? No, for goodness sake Amy he's harmless. Why are you being so awkward? Just shut up and let me tell you the story."

"If he's harmless, why are you calling him Jihadi Paddy?"

"The beard."

"The beard?"

"Yes, Amy, a beard. It's a great big bushy beard and it reminded me of those lot I keep seeing on the news. You know, the ones that do the horrible beheading videos on the internet? Anyway, his name is Paddy, it rhymed with Jahadi' so it stuck. His name is now: Jahadi Paddy'. Can I continue with my story now?"

"Please, do," I replied, still not quite sure where this story was going.

"Well, your father and I were walking in the park on Saturday and PATRICK from up the road "

"Actually, I think his name is John," dad interrupted.

"Then why have you been letting me call him Paddy this whole time?"

He shrugged and said: "It rhymed."

"Well, now the story doesn't make any sense. Why didn't you tell me this before, James?"

"I don't know, it didn't seem important."

"It was important, there's no point in it at all, now. God, you're infuriating."

I never did get to find out what John was shouting at my parents about or why his wife looked like she was eating a wasp. Maybe it was because of his beard.

Extract - Production Values by Liv Bartlet

I am delighted to feature an extract from the Production Values today on Six Tinder Weeks - finally a bit of glamour and Hollywood! On reading the extract, I wish I signed up for a review.  Get ready for snogging and lots of wankers! What a great intro - well done to the author!

Production-ValuesFINALWhat is the book about?  Production Values

Mornings like this I can understand the appeal of killer high heels. How they click with command down the sidewalk: Get out of my way, Im in charge and Ive got the footwear to prove it.

At the age of 28, Kat Porter has become the it-girl of British TV Production. Gut, gumption, and artistry have carried her through a dozen impossible scenarios to arrive at her first run as Executive Producer, and now all three muses point to Ian Grahams star power as the key to Los Angeles and golden statues.

But disaster looms as Ian twists Kat into a chameleon fit for success. Ians young daughter is thrown into the spotlight and Kat must face the consequences of her neverending quest for acclaim.

Production Values takes a biting but fun look at Hollywoodfrom the way we interpret female ambition to the influence of the paparazzi on how TV shows and stars fail or succeed.

The Extract starts here

Intro

The Golden Globes are over. Kat has disappeared with Ian, while Bea and the cast of 21 Things wind down from the evening.

Excerpt

The tink and titter of the after-party had long ago faded into white noise. Bea and the cast sat amidst strewn jackets and abandoned shoes, worn down by all the excitement. Bea picked the pimentos out of the olives abandoned in martini glasses around the table and formed a pile on the white tablecloth.

Anna slumped forward, fully flat on the table. My feet. So painful. The conversation worse. How many times do I say Im surprised? What after that?

Im brilliant and you should hire me? Bea offered.

Eh, no. You wrote me the perfect role. I should hand this to you.

Ive got one. Bea pointed at her trophy and then bowled an olive through her stack of pimentos. The red scattered.

Bens hands covered her shoulders as he sat in a chair pulled close behind her. Why the long face? Winners remorse, fearless leader?

Wanker stole my best friend remorse, more like. Bea scooped her pimentos back together.

A wanker? Im much too famous to be a mere wanker, arent I? Ben said in an unidentifiable accent as he dropped an arm over Quinn. She looked hot. Her gray sheath dress was almost no dress at all. Dress or no dress didnt matter: Quinn turned heads. She wasnt as talented as Anna, but her looks would keep doors wide open. Ben appreciated every ounce of her, more so in that dress as he openly leered at the gap in the top of the gown.

Quinn pushed Ben off. Oh, thats not Ian at all. Not even a good Sean Connery.

Ben slouched in front of Quinn, a dead-on impression of Ian in thought. And who are you? Edwin Drood in Piccadilly, was it? Or my waitress last week? Never mind. Ill bed you anyway. Get over here and let me lick your face.

Ben fell over Quinn in mimic of the oft-told awful snog. Bea held back a laugh as she bowled another set of pimentos.

Jamie reached around to grab Quinn out from under Ben. Let her up, Ben. She should only have to live through Ians pawing once.

Oh, dont make me remember. Worst snog of my life. I could only forget it through hypnosis. My trigger word is wanker. I think of him and then wanker and then poof! the memory is gone. Quinn giggled and wiggled out from under Ben, but he wrapped both his arms around her. Kat insisted Ben wanted Quinn in every way. Bea wasnt so sure. A toss, sure, but something serious? Quinn had better taste and Ben seemed to enjoy switching out his bedmates.

And who are you? Ben said to Jamie. Wait. No. Dont bother me with a name. Forgettable. Ill just call you Forgettable.

Adhira wagged a finger at Jamie. Honestly, if Id known how Ian treated you all, Id never have spoken to him. Not even chocolate is worth inflating that head.

Any larger and it would pop. Anna popped a pretend balloon with her hands.

Anna, honey, hed let you pop any of his inflated heads. Quinn licked her lips and grinned at Anna. If Bea had to bet on a 21 Things hookup, it wouldve been Quinn and Anna. Their chemistry exploded like hydrogen and oxygen every time they got to joking.

Anna bumped Quinn with her hip. Ive low standards for men, but Im not so desperate as to give Ian head, thank you very much.

I cant figure out what Kat is thinking. To blow us all off at the Globes for that . . . that . . . Adhira huffed and threw her hands in the sky. She should remember that sayingJamie, how does it go?Hos over bros, no?

Jamie laughed, his arms around his wife. Adhira, love, no. Ive explained this idiom several times. Bros over hos.

Well, your version is idiotic. I like mine better.

Ben chuckled. Kat is not going to choose anything over Ians hose. Not ever. Everyone else laughed at Bens off-color joke, but Bea grimaced. Kat was too entranced by the fame that shed like flakes from Ian Graham.

Lifelong Anglophiles, their Monkey & Me world sprang to vivid life on a trip to London that included divine pastries, sublime art, and a spectacular pratfall in the British Museum.

Becca is a professor, a scientist, and a secret romantic who insisted their first order of business in London was a meandering five-mile walk to see Big Ben. She lives with her husband, children, and an ever-expanding roster of pets in Logan, Utah.

Sarah is an Army brat, an Excel geek, and has a lot of opinions on the differences between science fiction and fantasy. She lives with her cat, Sir Jackwho is featured prominently on Livs Instagram just outside Salt Lake City.

Review - An Affair to Dismember By Elise Sax

My Review An Affair to Dismember by Elise Sax

What a brilliant first chapter! The owl, the pants, the officer! I loved the first chapter and enjoyed the whole book.

The Good
This is so easy to read and funny. The Granny matchmaking business is so cute as our heroine is a bit useless. She is really not cut out for the business.

The Bad
This was like a romance with a detective twist and finding out about the murder. It was so crazy it worked.

The Ugly
Gladie Burger? I mean really. With a gran like Zelda? The name was the worst thing about this hilarious comedy.

If you don't want serious fiction and do want a bit of a LOL then this is for you!

4.5 Stars!
