Noir at the Bar appearances

In the last few months I have read short stories at Noir at the Bar – the Sunderland version in November and the Newcastle event in February.

At the Sunderland event I read an updated version of the Six Snake Setter, retitled ‘The Armadillo Arsonist’.

At the Newcastle event I read an abridged version of ‘The Reclamation’.

Check out your local Noir at the Bar – it began in Philadelphia in the US, has spread to various cities across the UK and is a great night out. Readers are drawn at random by people in the crowd. You can even win one of the authors’ books!

Book launch success

Fifty people visited The Peacock Sunderland for the launch of The Malaise!

They were treated to a reading from the novel, as well as a reading of the Lovecraftian horror ‘Bonjour, Stevie‘, a Q&A and readings from local Sunderland authors.

Thanks to all who attended!

My Father’s Hands published in Bandit Fiction’s ‘Editor’s Picks’ edition

I’m proud to announce that ‘My Father’s Hands’ has been included in Bandit Fiction’s ‘Editor’s Picks’ publication along with other excellent short stories.

Download your copy!

The editor describes the story as follows:

“My Father’s Hands takes you on an emotional journey with the protagonist. I was really rooting for the character – I so wanted that man in the pub to be his father. The ending is almost gut-wrenching, which just makes the piece all the more brilliant. The emphasis on the father’s hands is a beautiful and thoughtful way of exploring feelings of loss and grief, as well as the way our minds play tricks on us when we really want something.”

‘My Father’s Hands’ published in Bandit Fiction

My short story My Father’s Hands, which was also long-listed for the Sunderland Short Story Award, has been published in Sunderland-based publisher, Bandit Fiction magazine.

The story is a departure from my usual horror/science fiction genre, instead it’s a poignant tale of a man who thinks he sees his father in a pub at Christmas time. His memories stir as he tries to work out if it is who he thinks it is.

The Horror Writers Association

A quick update for you – I have now officially joined the Horror Writer’s Association (HWA).[image error]

The HWA is a fantastic organisation that brings together professional and semi-professional writers of horror from all over the world. With names that include Stephen King and Dean Koontz as lifetime members, you can guess how influential this community is for authors in my genre.

I’m looking forward to the events and opportunities that membership of this organisation brings, particularly the ability to recommend fellow horror authors for the prestigious Bram Stoker Awards.

HINNOM MAGAZINE ISSUE 007 TABLE OF CONTENTS & COVER REVEAL!

Strange, humbling and exciting to have an issue of this amazing magazine billed as a ‘David Turton Special’!

Gehenna & Hinnom Books

Greetings from the Ether,

We have an exciting lineup for Hinnom Magazine Issue 007, which is currently available for pre-orders. As we put the spotlight on our 4x G&H alum David Turton, with his debut novel The Malaise releasing in December, we also have original fiction from Timothy G. Huguenin, Pete Rawlik, Sarah Gribble, and a reprint from David Turton’s recent Lovecraftian short story collection. Alongside the short fiction, we have, for the first time ever, 2 original poems! Adam Bolivar and Deborah L. Davitt take the helm as we expand our doors to even more dark poetry. With a review of Turton’s upcoming novel, and an interview with the man himself, we also shine the light on the horror film phenomenon that is Hereditary. Melissa Burkley returns with another outstanding column, and we also delve deeper into the adventures of Bob & Ivan with Phil Witte and…
