Is It Love?

Let me get this out of the way right now: The Improbable Existence of Life After Divorce is not a romance. I repeat—this is not a romance. That being said, the story of Russell Brown’s struggle to undo his worst mistake is filled with enough love to transcend time and space.

Ok, so that may seem like a bold statement to make considering this novel begins with his wife discovering his adulterous affair. And then she divorces him. And he’s distraught. And he just wants to give up on life.

I ...

What Is Humor?

Let’s get really nerdy for a few minutes. If psychology and analysis are your thing, then this post is for you.

Though too broad to define in one simplistic sentence, humor is, at least for The Improbable Existence of Life After Divorce, a series of snarky remarks, cringy situations, and the theory of incongruity.

In short, TIE of LAD is a tale of two characters—the protagonist, who often comes across as a lovable idiot but who also, when the light begins to shine in his direction, is...

Clean Humor

I love laughing. And things that make me laugh. And things that make me laugh later when I think about them again. So any story that’ll bring a chuckle to my lips is one I’m keen on.

But to be honest, I’ve had a difficult time finding “clean humor.” I’m a Christian and I like to keep unsavory thoughts and words and images out of my mind, even while indulging in a pastime.

Now I’m also not an ascetic puritan who balks at each and every little hint of immorality. (Anyone who’s read the Bi...

The Improbable Existence of Life After Divorce

Boy, that title is a mouthful! Which is why I’ve decided this book baby needs a nickname. Meet TIE of LAD!

Until now, I’ve never published a comedy. But writing TIE of LAD was so much fun that I’ve been wondering, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!” The tone is completely different than my first 5 novels. It’s quirky and wryly charming and lighthearted—the perfect way to handle a topic which has the propensity to get really heavy.

Is this book really about divorce?

Yes, and no. On the on...

Big announcement!

I’ve been keeping a secret for a while. I’m having another *book* baby! The Improbable Existence of Life After Divorce is due March 12. I’m over-the-moon in love already!

The Improbable Existence of Life After Divorce

In all seriousness, this book baby is long overdue. I began writing TIE of LAD in May 2020. The idea kept rattling around in my head and I jotted down some notes, but I didn’t begin really developing the story until late 2022. The beginning of 2023, something took hold of me and wouldn’t let go until I’d completed this ...

Solar Panels 101

Solar is the buzz word these days. It’s good for the environment (mostly), there are tax credits (for most people), and you gain freedom from high energy bills (maybe).

As you can already see, solar will make sense for some people but not others. For us, it made financial sense! Our decision to go solar a few months ago hinged on our plan to stay in this house for several more years.

Behold, our solar system!

But what about you? Are you curious about all the hype? Do you have no clue ...

How To Avoid the World’s Most Common Self-published Author Blunder of All Time

So, I’ll make this real quick and blunt: Amazon loves self-published authors, but they’ll crush us if we get out of line.

What I mean is that out of the dozens of platforms for self-published authors to get their finished books into the hands of readers, Amazon does this in the simplest, most cost-efficient format, hands down. Their price point can’t be beat, and the usability of their system is on-par with the best online tax filing website. Just fill in the blanks with the accurate data, an...

Rape Culture and Christian Fiction

This all came out of a conversation I had with my husband the other night. I mentioned to him how one of my old favorites, Redeeming Love, which I read years ago and have recommended to many readers, has been pelted with criticism. The fire has come from both sides, Christian and non-Christian alike. When I first heard of this, I was indignant. “What fault could one possibly find in Francine Rivers’ classic which practically was the catalyst for an entirely d...
