10 Reasons Lacy Williams Should be in Your Personal Library

Once upon a summer shortly after I pledged my own I do, I got an invitation to a friend’s wedding.

Fast forward and umpteen years later, Lacy Williams and I are still living our happily-ever-afters. We’re both wives of amazing men, moms of the world’s greatest children, and authors, though of vastly different genres. While my books are heavy and deeply emotional, Lacy’s southern romances take a lighter approach that’ll restore your faith in endings that make you go, “Aww!”

When the pain goes deep…

So, I have this rare disease called Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Thankfully, someone decided to abbreviate it EoE. Apfed (which is also an abbrev.) defines EoE as “a chronic, allergic inflammatory disease of the esophagus”. Basically, my esophagus is allergic to things that the rest of my body isn’t, like apples and mushrooms. What’s even weirder is that EoE most often affects men and children, and I am neither. But it is what it is.

Along with EoE, I have chronic acid reflux. Either of these dis...

The Fifteen Foot Fall That Should’ve Permanently Injured My Son

This guy.

Less than 24 hours ago, he free-fell from 15’ up and landed on his back on concrete. There were over 100 people present and many who saw it happen later said they felt traumatized. Somehow, I missed it, but as soon as I heard, my head started imagining the worst scenarios. Him on the ground seizing with a cracked skull and serious neurological damage… a broken back and permanent paralyzation… two broken legs, years of physical therapy and rehab… I’m a writer- I could keep going…

But...

Is it {my} right?

Last night, I had to insert myself in the middle of a dispute between two of my kiddos. One (who shall remain nameless) stood in the doorway of the restroom. While his little sister did the potty dance in the hallway and begged to be let into the restroom, he slammed the door in her face.

When I heard this, I had that weird dual momma-personality emerge where I was angry at someone for hurting my kid (I felt my momma bear start to come out)- but then I realized that the offender is also my ch...

Belief is [not] a four-letter word.

In my novel series, I wrote about a sexual abuse survivor as she navigates the legal system. Ironically, that fictitious event was set 96 years ago. This woman’s documentation of the legal process after her sexual assault proves we haven’t come far since, and justice for victims is still as elusive.

The one thing you may be able to do for a survivor is believe them. #IBelieveSurvivors

5 Things I learned at the Atlanta Writers Day Workshop:

Today, I attended the Atlanta Writers Day Workshop. Let me just say, “Wow! I am overwhelmed- but in the best way possible.” I made some new connections with writers and others in the publishing industry. Listened to expert advice on how to publish, hone my craft, build my platform, write a query letter- and much more. Pitched to two literary agents Diana Flegal and Ali Herring. Even bought this book on writing contemporary fiction. [image error]

It was an amazing day- made the 20 hours of driving well wor...
