Day 4,369: Rain

Today, we’re finely distinguishing between “First Cousins” and “Once-removed.

First, Second, etc. is determined by the distance of a common ancestor…ie- grandparents. Simply put, we count the number of “g’s.” Shared grandparents, one “g,” means First cousins. Shared great-grandparents, two “g’s,” Second cousins.

Removal has to do with generational differences. Once removed is one generation difference. Twice removed is two generations. So, my parent’s cousins are my cousins…once removed. ...

Day 4,368: Toast!

Today’s fine distinction: tights vs leggings vs pantyhose vs stockings. Let’s gooooooo

Tights cover the feet.

Leggings do not.

Tight are also an undergarment, ie- meant to be worn underneath other clothing, so they tend to be thinner. Leggings are usually thicker and can be worn as their own form of pants.

Pantyhose are a thinner version of tights, to the point they’re often semi-transparent. They are also usually more opaque towards the upper portion, hence the combo name of “pantie...

Day 4,367: RFN

Today’s fine distinction: Ethics vs Morals.

“Ethics” are intelligible, explicit, rational principals of right and wrong, defined by one’s social and/or professional community.

“Morals” are emotional, deep-seated, felt senses of right and wrong, defined by one’s conscience or god.

This, I think, is brilliant in terms of clarifying the distinction: while an unethical act may get you fired, an immoral act may land you in hell. Woohoo – fire, right there. Good stuff.

Oh, and diving even ...

Day 4,366: Holland

Making it another brief entry tonight because it’s already snooze time and I still want to do some Roman Reading.

Gary and Derrick are having a baby. She’s coming soon, so they had a baby shower today and we went. It was the most heartwarming thing in the world. They’ve been trying to make this happen for such a long, long time. Literally years. And it’s finally happening. I couldn’t be happier for them.

Otherwise, I took care of the pups, read Shakespeare, and tried to rest. Not much of t...

Day 4,365: mon

It’s late so I’m gonna be quick about it. Long week! My lord. And gonna be a busy weekend too. All good stuff though, thank goodness.

Work was busy. Busy busy busy. I got everything done I needed to, though. For the most part. I do need to get some uploads going over the weekend, but nothing too crazy. Only a little writing, but that’s better than nothing. I was wiped after going out last night. And then we went over to the King’s for Cat’s birthday. Happy birthday Cat!

Night night.

Day 4,364: Lifeline

Today’s fine distinction is “Accuracy” versus “Precision.”

So, to be “accurate” has to do with how close you are to the correct answer.

To be “precise” has to do with how close or fine you are measuring.

Fuzzy. So, here’s the example the book uses. A jar has, in fact, 76 jelly beans inside it. David guesses there are 125 inside. Lucy guesses between 50 and 100. David is precise, but not accurate. Lucy is accurate, but not precise.

I get it.

The two words do actually pertain to adj...

Day 4,363: A Quick

Making it quick tonight bc I’m wiiiiped…but a good day. Rough writing-wise in that I just wasn’t that productive, but I think I might have found fresh resolve at the very end. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Night night.

Day 4,362: Ma Boi

Our fine distinction this evening is “assume” versus “presume.” A pretty clear distinction here, I think!

“Assume” means to suppose without proof.

“Presume” means to do the same, but with confidence and authority.

So, both mean to take something as fact without proof, but the former is to do so without any evidence, while the latter is done with some good evidence and reasoning that the presumption is true.

Dare I say…the outlining is going well? I think so? I’m making progres...

Day 4,361: Joi

My favorite thing about snuggling into bed is Joy falling asleep on me. She licks my face, slides down into the crook of my shoulder and arm…and falls asleep. Like, snoring asleep. It’s magic.

A break from the fine distinctions tonight, but back tomorrow!

A very productive day. Wiped…but I did it all. Whew.

Night night.

Day 4,360: Trad

Today’s fine distinction is about espresso! Something I almost never drink, lol.

It’s a weird one. I don’t mind the taste of coffee. I quite get it, in fact, especially coffee and milk or cream. What a tasty way to start your day, and piping hot, too! But…I don’t know. I’ve just always resisted getting into it. I think I don’t want to become addicted. Which caffeine will definitely do. I don’t know. I’ve just never been a coffee guy.

But back to our distinctions: Latte vs Flat White vs Cap...
