Day 4,312: Premiere Day
Got up early and worked on the front yard. It was SWEATY work. But, better super early as opposed to when it actually gets hot. Still leveling. One corner left, though I think it will take a decent amount of work. The yard isn’t level, you know? It slopes down towards the street. But our driveway is level, and that’s where the parking space starts from so…I dunno. I think I’m just going to make it level and then kinda grade the dirt around it. We’ll see. It’s not like we get a ton of rain here a...

Day 4,311: Matches
Played catch with Wolfie today. I taught him how to do a full pitcher’s wind-up. He loved that. He wanted to do it the whole time after I showed him how. And he did good with it, too! He really liked how hard he could throw the ball with it. I taught him, too, that you want to aim your mitt where you’re throwing to, and not take your eye off the target during the entire motion. That also really helped. He really enjoyed it. He’s enjoyed every time we’ve played a sport together, but I can tell he...

Day 4,310: Back at it
Back at it tomorrow, y’all. This front yard project needs to get DONE. Got to. So, I’m getting up early (on time) and getting my ass out there before the sun breaks through the morning overcast-ness, and this parking space is gonna be leveled. Then, later in the day, I’ll put the border in and screw it all together. Well, put down the weed barrier first. THEN screw the 4x4s together. Then this week, I need to order the gravel and have it delivered. Means I’ll be compacting that shit in the heat,...
Day 4,309: Howl
We watched Howl’s Moving Castle tonight. Always a special watch, for sure. Miyazaki at his most creative, no doubt, and some of his highest artwork. Truly spectacular, the level he jumped with Spirited and Howl’s. Maybe the best animation ever? It’s breathtaking.
Busy day. Lots of driving. It was 3 1/2 hours to pick Liz up from LAX, which is WILD. That’s LA on Friday, though. The 405. It’s weird it was that long because it didn’t actually feel like it until the very end. But, we’re all so gla...

Day 4,308: Pol
A light day of work today, which I needed, for sure. Whew! I took the day off in terms of pushing to get anything “extra” done, like writing, or any of my multitude projects. It worked so well…I actually did get something done: I put up my office shelves, finally. I’ve been meaning to do that for…well over a year. Maybe two years. Hmm, not quite that long, actually, since we moved in. Oh, wait, I was going to say we moved in 2023, but it was 2022. So, yeah. Two years, probably, because we got th...

Day 4,307: Le Quick
Wiped, so making this a quick one, but…slow day today. Exactly what I needed. Whew. Didn’t write. Didn’t have to. Won’t for a few days, I think…but then back at it. Work was blessedly slow. I got some groceries. Hung out with the pups. Started watching a movie.
Life is good.

Day 4,306: Chrome
Do you remember The Brave Little Toaster? It’s so hard to find these days. The first one, at least, which is the only one I’ve ever seen. It has an interesting story—it was developed in part by Jon Lasseter before the Pixar days, and animated by a bunch of future Pixar animators when they were all just recent Cal Arts graduates. Super indie film. Wasn’t successful in theaters, but became very successful on VHS, which is definitely how I saw it.
Anyway…I put it on tonight. I’ve wanted to watch...

Day 4,305: Implied
It’s laaaate…so a quick one. Work was surprisingly busy. But, got it done. Read some Shakespeare. Took a day off in the sense that I didn’t push anything writing-wise. I need…a few days. Not tomorrow, though; Craig is getting me the manuscript back and I’ll need to boogy on getting it turned right back around to him. Won’t need much. One scene—half a scene—here, some tiny tweaks there…this was a clean, cleeeaaannn draft.
Night night.

Day 4,304: Ding Dong
Done.
Glory 5 is written. I mean…pending revisions and editing…but the book is WRITTEN. Whew. Did it. Took me a week longer than planned, but that’s not bad, innit? In the grand scheme of things?
It’s a good book. Intense. Put them characters through a lot this time, but really really good arcs. Lotta swings, and I hit em all pretty damn good. This book was a level-up in some ways for me, particularly in that regard: aiming for a particular payoff and getting them there. I was really, rea...

Day 4,303: Championship
Today wasn’t the day I finished the book…but that day will come TOMORROW. Can’t wait. Didn’t write like gangbusters today like I thought I might, but that’s okay. I still got almost ten pages out.
Watched the first game of Wrexham in the Championship. They fell apart a bit just at the very end and lost a 1-0 lead to lose 1-2 with both goals coming in the final six minutes. The biggest loss, truly, though was our new striker going down with an ankle injury. Sounds like a sprain. He’ll miss a m...
