Day 4,394: Chubs
It was a burnout day today. But I mean that in a good way. Like, I handled the burnout. MASSIVE nap. Almost two hours, I think, which might interfere a bit with going to bed tonight, but I don’t know. I did it decently early. I needed it. Majorly. Read some. Watched a bit of the sports. Warriors won. I DJ’d a little bit for the first time in FOREVER. Guys, I have soooooooo much music. Like…two or three YEARS of collecting fun tracks that I haven’t put into sets. Well, that’s on the agenda. And t...

Day 4,393: Bitten
Tonight’s fine distinction IS… “Flail” versus “Mace” versus “Morning Star.” Weapons! Let’s get into it.
A flail has a chain with something to swing at the end of it. Most famously, we think of a spiked ball. APPARENTLY, however, in real history, it was usually just another stick of wood at the other end, called a “swipple,” and it was a farming tool used to knock out wheat berries.
A mace does not have a chain. It’s one solid stick with a bulbous weapon on the end.
A morning star is a m...

Day 4,392: Tommenz
Boy howdy I am tired. A familiar refrain, I know.
It wasn’t a zero day today, but it was close. Went to bed so late last night getting up early to write wasn’t on the table, and then work was busy enough that it cut into the evening time, though to be honest I don’t know if I would have had the gas anyway to do much.
So. Sleep. That’s the agenda.
Toodles.
Day 4,391: Old Lace
You know…I think Arsenic and Old Lace might have had an outsized influence on my life.
I saw it for the first time, I think, on stage at my high school, the very first semester of my freshman year. I distinctly remember falling out of my chair I was laughing so hard. And I think it convinced me to do theater that very next semester. I wish I could remember the teacher’s name. She stopped doing the theater program the next year, but I got her that second semester for an intro class. I got seri...

Day 4,390: Yawnze
So…the time change is hard, lol. You’d think having an “extra” hour to sleep in the morning would be dope, right? Except that my bio-clock has been so hard set, I wake up exactly when I used to, which is now an hour early. So, I’m actually getting one hour LESS sleep than before, because I’m going to bed at the new time, which is an hour later than before. Aaahaahahahaaaa. Going nuts over here.
Aaaannnyyyway…
I know I know. It’ll only be for a week or two. I’ll reset. Le sigh.
Tired, th...

Day 4,389: Profligate
Tonight’s fine distinction is between “Squash” and “Racquetball.”
Squash is a sport played with two or four players in a completely enclosed space where you hit a small, firm ball with a narrow racket.
Racquetball is a sport played with two or four players in a completely enclosed space where you hit a larger, softer ball with a wider, shorter racket.
The book says squash is far more popular…but I think that might just be on the east coast, because I’ve never heard of anyone playing squ...

Day 4,373: Care
I have a friend who’s very sick. They needed help eating tonight, so we went over and made sure that happened. Soup and lemonade, but good lemonade. Trader Joe’s was out of it, so I went to Ralph’s, but their selection was mediocre at best…but there was also a Gelson’s down the street and jackpot. They had faaaaancy lemonade. That hit the spot.
Health is everything. It’s literally the only thing that matters in life. Everything else is secondary. Entirely. That’s not just some aphorism or say...

Day 4,372: Welcome…
We didn’t end up watching The Babadook tonight after all. Liz had to go elsewhere, and we really want to watch it with her. It’s a movie we’ve been looking forward to watching together, her and I, for quite some time. Like…two years? Which makes it sound like it’s been massively built up. I wouldn’t say that’s true, per se. Neither of us know what to expect, really. But we do want to watch it together. So, Josh and I watched some more Miyazaki doc instead. That was also great.
Work was steady...

Day 4,371: Comforter Season
It’s late. Gonna skip the fine distinction tonight, but we’ll be back with it…well, actually, probably Saturday since tomorrow is a podcasting night and I don’t think I’ll do one then either. So, we’ll be back at it in two days 🙂
I got up and wrote. Wrote in the evening. Had some really good ideas, too. That’s what happens when I sit down and do my effing work, lol. Optimistic that tomorrow I’ll be able to sketch out a rough outline. We. Shall. See.
The comforter is on the bed. Joy and Coo...

Day 4,370: Strictly Ribald
We have a blanket pile on our bed right now. It’s. The. Best. It’s cold out! Only for a couple days, I think, then several days of decently warm, and then back to cold-ish again.
It’s not thaaaaat cold. Right now it’s only 57 out. But that is WAY cooler than it was just a week ago. Leftover cool air from the storm that blew through. It feels like fall/winter, just like that. Early. Usually doesn’t turn like this until the end of the month. Right now it’s usually disgustingly warm. Glad it isn...
