Day 2,851: Bros

I’m up at my brother’s house tonight for the first time in…almost two years?

This pandemic, man. It’s been rough. Haven’t been able to come and visit, which is a real bummer. I love it up here. I really do. It’s really nice to be here and visit.

We’re going river rafting tomorrow! My cousin Jeremy is here, too, with Samantha and Cameron, two of his children who are SO GROWN UP NOW. It’s been years since I’ve seen them, too. Like, three years, I think.

Day 2,850: The Thing

Got to play a board game tonight with an amazing group of dudes called Outpost 31, which is one of those games where someone is the alien/murderer/monster, etc, and the rest of the group as the humans have to try and figure out who it is.

I was not the alien. And we, the humans, won! Apparently, it’s only the third time in the TWO YEARS they’ve been playing on the regular that the humans have actually made it out alive.

Work got suddenly very busy today for the next couple weeks. Which is great. I’d always rather be busy than slow.

Didn’t get my writing done today. Or yesterday for that matter. Fixing that tomorrow. Bed on time. Up on time. Write on time. Time on time.

Traveling this weekend. Seeing my bro. SO excited about that.

Day 2,848: Next Track

Got myself some new (old-model) airpods on a crazy good sale, and now I have music back for blog entry and late night writing!

Day 2,846: A Step

Made a step forward today on my troublesome scene! A good step, I think. We’ll see how it reads in the morning, but I think it may have been a genuine step forward. It involved dialing the scene down. I think I may have been forcing too much (unjustified) emotion into it, and I could simplify things.

Anxious today.

I really, really want to finish this book. It’s fighting me hard. I took a day off today because I think I needed it…but it made me anxious anyway, sitting around and/or doing stuff that wasn’t finishing that book.

I’ve realized something about me and my writing, and I’ve realized that it’s totally natural, and I don’t need to try and not be this way at all, it’s just part of the process…

I get grumpy about my writing when I’ve written something that I know doesn’t work, and wasn’t how it felt like it was going to go in the outline. Day 2,843: Fidget

Writing a book is a very, very humbling experience, y’all. It’s up and down.

I was up two days ago. Top of the world up. This book will be finished by NIGHTFALL up. Well…I’m still a ways away. All it takes is one scene that doesn’t turn out the way it seemed like it would in the outline to knock you off your page count goals for a couple days.

I’m close on the scene. The scene fundamentally works, I think, which is to say that the idea for the scene is solid. It’s the execution right now. ...

Day 2,842: Fire Tornado

Not aaassss stellar of a writing day today, but I suppose that was to be expected given yesterday’s monstrosity. I still wrote 8 pages. Good shit, too. Left off in the middle of a pivotal scene that I’ll probably rewrite a thousand times until it sounds right.

Good work day. Not great. Today was fine.

And fine is okay.
