MOON

Moon,
you’re going to make me sad.
Every time you...

MOON

Moon,

you’re going to make me sad.

Every time you cast away all your shadows they seem to fall to me.

Moon,

You know you’re loved

You’re the main attraction in the sky

But you keep casting all your phases to the ground

In order to be full

And I’m stepping on them as I walk.

Why do you cast these in my path?

Why do you seek to bring me down?

I count down the time I have til all my joy is gone

Yet you keep inching closer and closer every time.

Moon,

I love you

But you keep not loving me

And it’s making me fall

Making me stumble

And I’m getting lost

I’m getting lost.

Moon,

Shed your shadows elsewhere

Don’t harm another soul.

I’ve walked so long and so hard to just be some kind of living—again.

Nanowrimo is going well, didn’t write as much as I would like today but hey, there’s tomorrow! Almost at 5k.

In the meantime, figured I’d share the link to my work of poetry, worked really hard on it over the summer and I hope you check it out!!

Thank you and have a beautiful day

NaNo Prep: How to Go From Plotless to Polished

nanowrimo:

November is just around the corner, and as we gear up, we’re sharing advice on how you can best prepare for a month of writing. Today, author and designer Derek Murphy shares his advice on how to turn a messy work-in-progress into a polished draft in November:

NaNoWriMo is a
great opportunity to push your boundaries and see how much writing
you can get done in thirty days. If it’s your first time shooting for
50K, write whatever is easiest for you. However, if you’ve been
doing NaNoWriMo for a few years and have struggled to turn your newly
generated manuscript into an actual book that sells, here’s some advice that should help:

Save a Darling—Plot Ahead

First of all, if
you started your story with very little plotting, it’s likely you
have dozens of powerful scenes but no backbone to hold it all
together. And it’s very difficult to go back and operate on
your manuscript after it’s finished. “Kill your darlings” is
good advice, but painful for a reason. It’s hard to cut the stuff
you love—but if it confuses the narrative or doesn’t need to be
there, it’s hurting the story.

Things you should know about each of your characters

the-right-writing:

These are what I would consider to be the most basic, bare-bones questions of character creation.

What would completely break your character?
What was the best thing in your character’s life?
What was the worst thing in your character’s life?
What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
Does your character work so that they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren’t working?
What is your character reluctant to tell people?
How does your character feel about sex?
How many friends does your character have?
How many friends does your character want?
What would your character make a scene in public about?
What would your character give their life for?
What are your character’s major flaws?
What does your character pretend or try to care about?
How does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
What is your character afraid of?
What is something most people in your setting do that your character things is dumb?
Where would your character fall on a politeness/rudeness scale?

You sit there drinking a coffee
Not minding what the world is...

You sit there drinking a coffee

Not minding what the world is saying,

Right now.

We took some locks of long brown hair

We braided them and so we wove

A future, of love and books of poetry.

So go on,

Live completely.

Turtles All The Way Down book review

Fabulous. I really enjoyed it. I could go into a full in depth and analytical review, but right now I don’t see the point. I have been a reader of John Green for a long time, and I love his work. I loved this book as much as I love all of Mr. Green’s other works, and I’m so happy he shared another book with the world.

I got some Paper Towns vibes and Tonight The Streets Are Ours vibes, but it was still very different from the two. I was expecting this book to be more about the mystery and it wasn’t, which I rather liked. I would recommend this book to anyone and so I will say right now that you should read it. I am now going to go think this book over and learn more about tuatara.
