Peri Reed’s Kitty
Congratulations, Winston! You were chosen to be the image of Peri Reed’s cat! Every special ops agent needs a cat, right? And you were rough enough, tough enough, elegant enough to make the cut. That, and you charmed the readers with your sassy expression and cat-attude.

Hayley’s Winston
I’m at BEA this week, signing and giving away ARCS of The Drafter, but when I get back, Winston’s photo will be made into a cling to fit the back of Peri Reed’s glass technology phone, this year’s give away on The Drafter Tour.
Well done, Winston! And thank you everyone who sent me pictures of your cats over the last three weeks. I must have gotten over 1300 of them. That’s a lot of kitties!
If you are going to be in New York this weekend, I’m giving away ARCs of The Drafter on Saturday at the Javits center. This is the same venue that Comic Con NY is held at.
Admission on Saturday is $40.00, but there will be lots of swag and as I said, free ARCs. I’ll be at the Simon and Schuster booth on Saturday at 11:30 AM, with Opti pins and glass phones. Oh, and ARCs. Feel free to bring in one or two previous purchased titles if you like. We’ll slip them through. :-)

With the mass market, the e-book price drops
Hey, how! What a wild weekend! I hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day.
As expected, the price of the e-book has dropped with the release of the mass market. If you’ve been waiting, now’s your chance. And can I thank everyone who read it when it first came out and didn’t blab the ending? (big grin) I take that as a huge compliment, because you enjoyed it enough to not spoil it for everyone else.
Quick links below to pick up the e-book for your first-time read, to gift to a friend, or just round out your e-library.

And as always, if you’re looking for the first-edition hardcover, with that blue butterfly at the chapter headings, Nicola’s has them. Signed mm as well.

I’m still waiting to hear back from XOXOAfterDark as to who won the cat contest. Tomorrow, maybe?

Merow. Time to vote!
I didn’t do any book work the last two weeks while I ran the the contest to find Peri Reed’s cat, spending the time working on my firelizard. After a bunch of tweaking that most people won’t even see, I just have the wings left and the final voting.
So . . . Go vote over on XOXO After Dark’s website!
Polls should be open through the Memorial Day weekend. Good luck, Homer, Winston, and Mr. Bubba!

We have our three cats. Voting tomorrow.
Congratulations, Mr. Bubba! He made it to the great cat-off and is now in the final voting tomorrow to find Peri Reed’s cat to be featured on her glass technology phone, one of the freebies for The Drafter. (9/1/15)
So take a look at the three up for consideration, and come back tomorrow to pick your fave. As you might guess, attitude was paramount, and I leaned toward short hairs simply because of what Carnac does in the book. (Yikes! I let a spoiler slip!) I’m not sure how we ended up with two grays with all the variety we started with, but it makes me wonder. There have been some odd coincidences occur during the contest, and I’ll tell you about them tomorrow at the vote.

The Drafter Tour cities!
We’re over three months out from the publication of The Drafter. I’ve got an entire manuscript to write between now and then. The lazy cycle of summer needs to play out, sedate and uncomplicated. And yet, things are starting to pop in my office.
The Opti buttons I’m giving away at signings have come in, and they are beautiful.
The tour cities have been finalized, which means the tour T’s can be printed up. They’ll be available June 1st. I’ll tell you how to order then, but for now, aren’t they pretty with the Opti logo? And if you look close, you can see where I’ll be going this year. Again, nothing west of the Mississippi, but I think that’s because I’ll be taking a tour bus this year. How cool is that? If you’re wanting a signed copy, don’t freak out. Nicola’s is already taking orders for personalized copies, and I hear B&N will have generically signed copies as well.
And finally, the mockup of Peri Reed’s glass technology phone has been tweaked and approved–and fifty pounds of plastic has been dropped on my doorstep, ready to give away at signings and SASEs.
We just need one more thing.Peri’s cat, which will be made into a cling as a wallpaper for Peri’s phone. Don’t forget to vote today to see who joins Winston and Homer in the big cat-off vote this Thursday.
I can’t wait to get out to some of the stores and start giving this stuff away. Peri has become as real to me as Rachel, and her world is one I’d like to live in. I want her car. I want her phone. I want to shop at Sim’s Mules and have rice and fish at the mall. But first, I have to find out what her cat looks like.
To vote, pick out your favorite, and then send an email to coldtoastwritingsllc@comcast.net with the name of your pick in the subject line. Voting ends today at noon, EST
1. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE NAME OF YOUR PICK IN THE SUBJECT LINE, YOUR VOTE WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
2. IF YOU SEND MORE THAN ONE EMAIL, ONLY THE FIRST WILL BE COUNTED.
3. If you mess up and forget the name of your pick in the subject line and then send a second email, chances are good that Tim will figure it out, so don’t freak out.
4. This is Tim’s address, not mine, and he won’t be reading or opening the votes, just tallying them as they come in, so please don’t include any correspondence in them.

Hayley’s Winston

Sue’s Homer
Guy will be tallying them up from May 18 until noon May 19 (EST). The winner will join Winston and Homer for the final vote on the 21st, so come back! I’ll have a list of all the tour cities by then, as well, and maybe a peek at this year’s tour T. The five finalists below should have an email in their inbox from me, so if you see your cat, check your email. I need your address to send you a thank-you book. Thank you everyone who entered. This was a wild three weeks! Vote for only one:

Who will join Homer and Winston for the cat-off on Thursday?

Peri’s Glass phone

Mass market out now.
It was a very tough choice, but I’ve narrowed almost 400 hundred cat photos this week down to five for you to vote on to find who goes to the big Peri Reed Cat-off contest this Thursday, (May 21) But first, we have to find the last cat, joining Winston and Homer. The winner of the cat three-way will be featured on Peri Reed’s phone as a cling. (This year’s freebie to help promote the new series coming out the first of September.

An early look at this year’s tour Ts
Congratulations, Danielle! She won The Drafter ARC that my editor was giving away at RT 2015 last night. I’m not comfortable moving her picture from FB to over here, but if you want a look at the new tour Ts, pop on over to FB and check it out. I’m not sure who’s smiling wider right now, Danielle in the picture, or me sitting at my desk. Dang, it feels good to finally be sharing Peri with people. She’s been stuffed up in my head for too long.
Also, just a reminder that I’ll be closing the entries down late this afternoon for Peri’s cat contest. We’ll vote Monday/Tuesday to find for the third and final cat, and then the big vote between the three starts Wednesday. [how to enter your cat] My Gosh, you guys have some beautiful cats.

Are you ready for some romance? RT2015
If you’re at RT this year in Dallas, and you want a shot at an ARC of THE DRAFTER, have I got good news for you! My editor, Lauren McKenna, is going to be there, giving away one at her panel today at 4:00. She’ll be up on the third floor, Shawnee Trail, room A, at the Hyatt.
And if not, you’re still luck, because I’ve got more cats! I got a bunch more in yesterday and this morning, and the page has been updated. I think I found my winner for the week, but like last week, I’ll pick my favorite five and let you decide.

It pretty much glows
My ARC (advanced reader copy) came over the weekend, carefully pawed over and admired–and then it disappeared–upstairs I think, in one of my boys’ bedrooms. Fortunately I got another yesterday, and in the brighter sun in my office, I realized the beautiful thing is not just bumpy with raised text and detail, glorious with the cover art on both the front, back, and spine, but it’s been pearlized so it has a subtile sheen.
Holy cow, Gallery didn’t just put a picture on it, but gave it a huge measure of sass and panache. (I’ve never used that word before, but it fits.) I’ve broken out of the flat bland covers on my ARCs for a while now, granted the status a photo gives you, but my gosh, this thing is beautiful.
So . . . do you want one? Huh? You want to vanish into Peri’s world for a few hours and come up refreshed and seeing things in a new way? There’s one up for grabs at RT thanks to my editor, Lauren McKenna being there. Look for her to be on a panel on Thursday, from 4:00 to 5:00, third floor of the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, the shawnee Trail room, A. They might let you look at it if you stop by the Simon and Schuster/Gallery booth. I’m not sure where exactly they are going to keep in in the meantime. It shines, I tell you. It shines!

First Hummer of the season
It’s that time of year again when my mom and I have a contest to see who gets the first hummer. She won by a few days, but they finally showed up at my place about a week later. I’m making a play for the oriels again, though I know it’s a losing battle. They are around, because I hear them, and occasionally see one or two, but they do prefer a more rural setting. Still, the feeder is out, and I did spot a pair in my yard–once–this spring. That in itself is a battle won.
.
.
The cat contest is still going on as I write this. Voting for cat number two ends at noon today, EST, [wanna vote?] and I’ll announce who’s going up against last week’s winner, Winston, at FB today, and again here tomorrow. I’m still taking cats for this week’s contest, so go click to go check out the kitties and pick your favorite!
