To be blind is not miserable; not to be able to bear blindness, that is miserable. –John Milton
Charlotte Conroy, Juilliard-trained violinist, was on the cusp of greatness when tragedy swooped down on dark wings, crushing her hopes and breaking her heart. The music that used to sing in her soul has grown quiet, and she feels on the verge of setting down her violin for good. To pay the bills, she accepts a job as a personal assistant to a bitter, angry young man who’s been disabled by a horrific accident…
Noah Lake was an extreme sport athlete, journalist and photographer. He roamed the world in search of his next adrenaline high, until a cliff-dive left him in a coma. He awakes to find his career gone, his dreams shattered to pieces, his world an endless blackness that will never lift.
Charlotte begins to see that beneath Noah’s angry, brittle exterior is a young man in pain. She is determined to show him that his life isn’t over, that he has so much to live for, never dreaming that she would become the only light in his darkness, or that he would help her find the music in hers.
The life he knew is over. The life she wants is just out of reach.
Together, they must face their fears and rediscover what it means to really live.
My Review
From the absolute very beginning, I loved every aspect of this book. Charlotte is the example of starving artist. She is just trying to find a way to pay rent when she is asked to deliver a food order to a mystery man. He orders the same thing from her diner and this would be the first time. Of course instead of being grateful that someone would take the time out of their day to help him, the resident getting the food is a jerk to Charlotte by not giving a tip, She lets him know what she thinks of him, not too loudly though. This leads to a very lucrative job opportunity. She is supposed to care for a blind man, except he is an ass and doesn’t want the help.
Noah was an extreme sport reporter so when his last trip leads to him becoming permanently blind he is a bit pissed off at life. He is snappy with everyone who tries to help him, he doesn’t want to learn anything that would make his new life easier, and finally he has some killer freaking migraines. I mean legit killer.
I loved how they came together both having their own demons to battle and both able to understand even if it was just a bit how the other was feeling. I almost hated Noah at the end of this read, I did, but things worked out for the best and I am left smiling!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was the first from this author for me. Check out this blurb!
Blurb
Sidney Sinclair was living the dream of any eighteen year-old girl…
A handsome rock star boyfriend, a closet full of designer clothes, a limousine service at her beck and call, and a mansion in the hills of Los Angeles.
Even with all that glamour and excitement at her fingertips, she still feels as if she’s been missing something in her life so she decides to leave.
While trying her best to put her dysfunctional romantic relationship aside and tend to her beloved Granny, Sidney unexpectedly stumbles upon an intriguing emerald pendant boxed away in her grandmother’s closet.
Soon she learns it once belonged to her long-lost mother who committed suicide when she was just a baby. Suddenly feeling emotionally connected to the woman who had birthed her, Sidney begins to wear the necklace.
This sends her on a whirlwind journey that alternates between fantasy and reality…
Almost immediately, she starts having dreams linked to the mysterious pendant. As danger begins to seep into her life, Sidney refuses to remove the necklace and instead documents each dream to help her further understand them. However, she soon begins to wonder if they are dreams meant to bond her to a mother whom she never knew?
Or a subconscious warning that threatens her very life?
My Review
Ok, let me start this by saying from the very beginning I CAN’T STAND Ray, I can’t stand him. He is self-centered, mean and just a complete asshat. I know Sid loves him and all that but ugh, I just wanted to flip him off through out the whole book.
She follows him to Hollywood only to have to come back home because her granny gets sick. Instead of waiting for her or supporting her, he cheats. UGHHHH!
While she is taking care of her grandmother she cleans out the closet and stumbles on a necklace with an emerald, the same one that her mother was wearing in one of the only pictures that she had. After she starts wearing the necklace she begins to have strange dreams.
Now here is where I get confused, Adrian now enters the picture but I can’t tell if he is real or if he is a ghost or something like that. First he conveniently disappears when Sid sends him a drink, then her truck ends up home when she didn’t drive it. Also there are some religious aspects to the book which kind of makes me think that Adrian is the devil.
It does end on a cliffhanger so if you don’t like those make sure you pick up the whole series!
