argh.
Dear Book: so this is it, we've reached the point where I shred the outline into cat-toy confetti and you lead me by the nose to the end-point, have we?
If I wasn't completely aware that this new tertiary character is my lizard brain stepping forward, I'd be more worried. But still: One of these days I'll write a well-behaved book again, I swear it...

We Are Infinite.
So that happened.

A memorial to my dad, and all those I have lost, and a reminder that nothing that matters is ever truly lost.
Also, I am reasonably sure my tattoo artist never had a writer in his chair before, because he was bemused by my constant questions about the process. Hey, never know when it might be needed for a story, right? Waste no chance to learn something new….

Putting aside gender history being made, for a moment...
Hillary Clinton is officially the Democratic candidate for president in 2016.
I like Hillary. I don't agree with everything she's done, but I appreciate her intelligence, her pragmatism, and her ability to - often despite themselves - make allies in other camps (and countries), and get things done. Is she a professional politician? Of course she is. Politics has become a profession: amateurs don't survive.
Whatever your feeling about who should have become the nominee, it has come to this: history and math tell us that a third party candidate has no chance to win this contest. It is between Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump.
#ImWithHer because I refuse to give this country over to hate and ignorance. We can be better that that. We MUST be better than that.
(and we need to elect a Congress that will work with her. That’s part of the battle, too)

Back from Necon, Back at Work...
The official t-shirt for Necon read "what happens at Necon, stays at Necon." There are some photos floating about, but convention reports, not so much. You want to know, you've got to go.
This morning, I spent an hour doing preliminary promotional stuff for the paperback release of SILVER (October) and the hardcover release of COLD EYE (January). Now I get to write more of Still Untitled #3 (late 2017/early 2018) and poke people about the proofs for COLD EYE, and news on Still Untitled #4.
Series writing means never getting to say "I have nothing to do."

Price Drop Alert!
This is your semi-irregular alert that Amazon (tho not B&N -yet) has temporarily dropped the price on SILVER ON THE ROAD down to $18.35 (a 32% savings on the hardcover). And the pre-order price on the trade paperback is now 11.59! (a 28% drop).
$12 for a trade paperback is so totally my sweet spot, I'M tempted to order a copy. :-)

If you're a member of my Patreon...
You have a patented Meerkat Rant in your inbox, entitled "History Will Fuck you Up."
If you're not a member, you get nothing. That's how it works.
($1/month gets you in the door, though. Whatcha waiting for?)

Necon prep and packing (and panels!)
There's something deeply unnerving about knowing that your fiction is going to be sharing GoH pages with Joe Hill. I'm just saying. In defense, I intentionally chose something unfinished and unpolished, so I have an excuse.
Of course, if he does the same, I'm sunk.
Meanwhile, I'm in prep mode, which for Necon consists mainly of making sure I have proper clothing (tank tops and shorts), bug spray, and booze. Oh and polishing up my mini-golf game.
(Seriously. Necon is not like your usual genre conventions)
There's only a single track of programming, but they've got me pretty well cooked:
3 p.m. Between My World and Theirs: Balancing Work for Hire with Your Own Inventions
9 a.m. Magic in Low Places: Fantasy without Royalty (a 9am panel? Someone will Hear About This)
1 p.m. Guests of Honor Interview (Note: extended 90-minute panel). The interviewers are Canadian. I'm sure they'll be terribly polite, right?
