The Big Picture
Hey, everyone. I've decided to open up up the discussion of my book. Now, I'm not trying to spoil the book for anyone who wants to read it. Though, I have not added the important piece in my Author's Note of my book. So now, I think this would be a good opportunity to open it up.
If have you have read The White Sirens, then good for you. If not, you don't have to read my blog post. But the important topic is about the characters that revolved around Eliza's life.
In today's society, we've seen news about people fighting for their rights. And there were occasions when an African man/woman has been left unjust, it is up to the public eye to rise up and fight for them. And it's not the fight between African Americans and police officers. There's women having an abused relationship, children losing their innocence, and far right conservatives blame Muslims for terrorist attacks, even though it was just the radical group that's causing destruction.
I've decided to put the important pieces into my book, closing terms on the people who have been lately unjustified. And, of course, I have been researching to get the right facts. Just like Jenny Schwartz mentioned, it is also a Coming of Age story. Some of us are growing and realizing the world around us. Even Eliza is seeing the world through her very own eyes.
There is one particular character that is based off of the case. I have researched a woman named Marissa Alexander. I'm not sure if anyone has read about the case. If not, I'll fill you in. She was trying to protect herself from her abusive boyfriend. And because of that, she has been found guilty and was sent twenty years in prison (she was released January 2015, I just found out).
So anyway, I decided to develop a character that's based off of her, but slightly different. I'm not going in depth, because, like I said, I really don't want to spoil the book for you guys if you're interested in reading it. I do encourage you all to read it when you get the chance.
