Jo Rae Perkins: QAnon Conspiracy Theorist Nominated To Senate

Jo Rae Perkins won the Republican nomination for the US Senate in Oregon. Perkins is a supporter of the extremist “QAnon” conspiracy theory.

> More 2020 Election

Perkins won her race by 50,000 votes. She will face the incumbent, Senator Jeff Merkley (D).

“Believers of the [QAnon] conspiracy believe they are receiving updates on the covert operation to take down this cabal via cryptic riddles posted by an anonymous source on a far-right message board that, once decoded, reveal top-secret information.” – Right Wing Watch

Perkins acknowledged the conspiracy in her victory speech: “As all of us Q people like to say: ‘Where we go one, we go all’.”

In a web video, Perkins said, “I stand with President Trump. I stand with Q and the team.”

After she won the nomination, Perkins deleted her pro-QAnon video and claimed she “would never describe herself as a follower” of the conspiracy theory.

Her Twitter history shows that she has been tweeting regularly in favor of the conspiracy theory since January 2018.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee has invited Grimm to testify about her findings in a hearing on May 26, 2020.

Trump Threatens To Withhold Aid To States

Donald Trump threatened to withhold aid to several states after they made it easier for people to vote in the 2020 election.

> More Donald Trump Scandals

Trump Threats

Trump said he would withhold aid from Michigan and Nevada. On Nevada: “‘I think’ I can hold up funds to the State.” On Michigan: “I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!”

Trump tweets are threatening to commit a crime. It is illegal for a president to withhold funds that have been appropriated by Congress to interfere with voting.

What Really Happened

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson decided to send absentee ballots to all residents, in response to the coronavirus.

The chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, previously supported mailing absentee ballots. “Personally, I don’t really have an issue with absentee ballot request forms being sent out to voters,” she said.

Reaction

The Washington Post Fact Checker awarded Trump “4 Pinocchios” for his claim, noting, “Add this one to the vast collection of Trump’s phony claims about voter fraud and rigged elections.”

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson rejected Trump’s attack and said, “Every Michigan citizen has a right to vote by mail.”

Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic Party, criticized Trump for being engaged in a “desperate effort to steal an election.”
