Winter Tales – Hibernate
Guess what? Max says as he crawls back into bed, tucking himself up behind Matthias knees.
What? And youre freezing, Matthias adds, shuddering when he snuggles up closer, feeling like hes seeping away all his warmth.
Its snowing.
Already?
Like really, really big flakes.
Is it settling? Matthias asks, slotting his fingers through Maxs and groaning when he presses his cold feet against his own.
It is. Good few inches already.
Matthias snorts into his pillow and drags Maxs hand down. Inches,...

A Christmas Surprise – 4
Will Alex feel pressured by such a public proposal, Jack panics out of nowhere. Its only his family, who already love Alex as one of their own, have spent two of the past three Christmases in his company, and have been not-so-subtly nudging at Jack to propose for months. But still, if its in front of an audience, will he feel like he has to say yes, even if he doesnt want to? The thought clenches around Jacks heart, makes him pause in the middle of Christmas shopping and have to take a...
Winter Tales – Tree
“You know. I still can’t tell the difference between a real and plastic one.”
Matthias keeps his eyes forward after he’s spoken pretending to concentrate on positioning the bauble he’s holding just right on a branch, holding in his smile as he hears an irritable clicked tongue to his side.
“No, no difference at all,” Max says as he straightens up a strand of tinsel. “No real smell, or character, or anything at all better about a real Christmas tree.”
“At least with plastic ones there ar...

A Christmas Surprise – 3
He’s not bought the rings yet, though, hoping they choose them together in the actual part of this that is a Christmas gift to Alex. Because a proposal for Christmas, while sentimental, doesn’t involve a lot of unwrapping. And the weekend away he’s booked for them in the New Year, where they can indulge in each other, as well as hit all the jewelers possible, is something he can giftwrap; sort of. An envelope, containing a schmoopy, handwritten invitation, on thick cream paper with a gilded edge...

Matthias is bored.
He got home at six after a particularly difficult boiler replacement, heating up the leftovers Max had brought him home from work. He shouldn’t be bored, not really, not when it’s been such a long day. But he’d been looking forward to an evening with his husband here on the couch, and from the sounds of things he’ll probably be alone all evening. He pouts, because he can, because there is no one to tease him for doing it.
Matthias waits another hour and decides he can’t...

A Christmas Surprise – 2
Because it’s the right time to do it, isn’t it? The right time to express just how very much he loves Alex, and how he intends to give him that love for the rest of his life. In front of a small audience, already in the middle of the happy season, where there’s so much joy and merriment around, a proposal should be the literal frosting on the cake. Complete with sprigs of holly, miniature Christmas trees, and, if he’s got anything to do with it, wedding rings. Jack sighs to himself, and pleads t...
Winter Tales – Sniffle
When Matthias sneezes, Max’s head comes up from the book he’s reading comically slow.
“You’re not sick, are you?” he asks, reaching out to squeeze his leg where they’re both sprawled out on opposite ends of the couch indulging in a quiet afternoon.
“No, no. Just a sniffle.”
“This is what happens when you don’t wear a jacket to work,” Max tells him, reproach in every word.
Matthias grins as he watches him stand, happy to be pampered even if he isn’t sick. He lifts his book from his la...

From Across The Hall – 31
All that worrying. All that fretting and pining and telling himself off for looking, and Ruben is now getting ready to go on a date. With Sam. The guy who’s had his attention for months, but he’s been too uncertain to do anything about.
Stood at that bus stop missing two buses that would have got him home, Sam and Ruben had talked. In halting, awkward, stumbling words of course, about their attraction for one another, how they’ve both been interested for a while, but weren’t sure if the feeli...
A Christmas Surprise – 1
Jack’s got it all planned out. Christmas morning, sat at the foot of his parent’s overindulgent Christmas tree, with literal logs crackling on the fire in the hearth. Macy, the seven-year-old Bassett Hound that his Mom insisted on buying when his younger brother Ollie went off to college, sulking because she, too, is waiting to open her presents. And, probably, his heart pounding so hard, that it’ll take him a couple of swallows before he can get his words out: that’s when he’ll do it. Jack’s st...
