A Saint's Salvation by @ovalleba is a Tina's Titillating Teaser

Blurb:Corporal Nicholas 'Saint' Santiago needs to go home to reclaim the man he used to be. To be the man he was before Operation Enduring Freedom slowly hardened his heart. He needs to reconnect to the values and the reasons he is doing what he does. Saint also needs to try to forget the courageous woman he knows was meant to be his.Petty Officer Angelina Jones' life changed the moment Saint saved her life. She survived the blast but now has to deal with the fact that she will never be whole. Knowing Saint received a 'Dear John' letter, Angelina has no intention of being his rebound romance. She needs to be loved for herself. She needs to forget about the one man she knows was meant to be hers. They each try to find someone to help them forget. But what does fate have planned for them?Excerpt:Nick could see kids playing in the dirt. In the distance the locals were harvesting the poppy fields. Some of the largest poppy fields in the world were right outside the walls of the FOB. Beautiful when in bloom, they were more pervasive and did more damage than the terrorists.
“Anymore threats?”
“When aren’t there threats?” Every damn day there were threats. “Why, is there a problem?”“The brass is making noise. When they do something stupid, we end up paying for it.” Hamilton sounded disgusted. As Hamilton spoke, shots were fired over and through the fence, adding more holes to the dilapidated barrier. Nick and Hamilton hit the ground, rolling toward the sandbags to return fire through the cracks. “See what I mean?”“Yeah it’s been a while since they shot at us, at least a couple of days.” Nick’s sarcasm caused Hamilton to laugh.“Probably someone is coming to pick up something from the poppy fields and they want to keep us from seeing who.” Hamilton glanced at him. “You doing okay?”“Gettin’ there. It was just a shock, ya know?”“Yeah, damn women. The least they could do is be faithful while we’re out here fighting.”“Yeah, it sucks. I just can’t help thinking it’s my fault.”“Fuck. How the hell could it be? You weren’t even there. The bitch knew you were gone, were going to be gone.” They fired shots, aiming at the muzzle flash in the distance. More Marines headed their way, sprinting from cover to cover. Perez came running, bringing out ammo and providing more fire power.Another crack and Perez went down with a cry.“Fuck! Medic! Man down!” The cry went out, passed through until the call went to the corpsman, while Nick tried to stem the blood flow. Hands pushed his away. Nick looked up. Petty Officer Jones, better known as Doc, had bandages ready.“Help me roll this on until we can get him out of here.” Her voice sent a ripple through him. Nick had always ignored the attraction he had felt for her. He’d had his girl back home, and fraternization out here could get him thrown in the brig. Not to mention the brig out here was a hell hole.Nick was leery about approaching Doc now. The Dear John letter had been a shock. He had known Leila for years. Hell, they had been friends since they were little. Her betrayal was unexpected. Nick didn’t even really know Doc. He could trust her with his life, but he wasn’t ready for another go around with his heart, no matter the attraction he felt.
Nick looked toward the fence line, rifle at the ready. Shots were firing sporadically around him. That’s when he saw it, the trail from a grenade launcher, unmistakable. Shit!

#AuthorTip - Planning a Website?

One of the first things authors are asked is

Do you have a website?

Some have authors use wordpress or blogger to host their site while other seek other hosting sites.

As a former programmer, I wanted a site that I could have on a separate site, but as you can see by looking at the top of my blog. I still use blogger to gain access to my home site.

When planning a website, an author needs to decide on a number of things.

Branding- what do you want to show on your site?

Number of pages?

What type of pages?

Here are some example of the different type of pages one can have.

1.  Home Page / Welcome page  – is like the entryway to your house.  It is an introduction to you. It should include things like author’s picture, available books, a welcome note, brief biography and links to all the other pages on the site.

2.  Books Page – as an author you want people to find your books. This page should contain all the books you’ve written with either blurbs, excerpts or reviews. Or links to this information.

3.  Bio Page – a page to tell people about yourself. Who you are, what you write, more about your personal interests and other information you want to share.

4.  Links Page – this page gives visitors to your site links to other places on the Internet where they can find you. Also, it can include links to your friends and publisher. This is important because links to other sites that link back to you increases your rating on the Internet. (This also increase your SEO rating—see definition below.)

5.  Other Pages – the possibility for other pages are endless. Here is where you make your site your own.

6.  Picture page - share pictures.

7.  Contact page – where you give fans your email address.

8.  Excerpt pages – giving excerpts of your books or the ability to read the first chapter.

9.  Video Page – to display video you’ve made. (A great way to connect with readers.)

10.  Some sites also have chat areas.

Each author has to decide what they want and why?

Feel free to hop around mine  and see what you like and don't like. Viewing other sites can help you decide what you want on yours.

Once these things are decided then comes the creative part of the process - colors, pictures, type print, headers, footers, etc.

This is not a one day project. Take some time and thing about what is best for your site.

Best of luck,

Tina

- except -
Excerpt:The evening was hot and humid—true South Louisiana weather. Nonetheless, Jordan continued to dance away her troubles. Soon, the denseness of the crowd intensified the temperature. When the tempo of the music slowed, relief rushed over her. This ballad presented the perfect opportunity to sneak off the dance floor. Now she could catch her breath. Jordan strategically mingled at various tables, leaving a few cordial words at each one. With polite gestures, she worked her way from the crowd's core. Beyond the music stage, she spotted a sweet shady spot. While she imagined herself seated in the space, someone groped her from the rear. Shocked, Jordan jumped. Simultaneously, the person pinned her arms in front of her. Jordan panicked—her body was being held against her will. Movements restricted, her attacker flipped her around with ease. He pressed his face against hers, and then moved his lips backwards until they rested upon her ear."Calm down, Senator," he said gruffly. The sound of the male’s voice made her cringe. “Luther. Are. You. Insane?" In her unflattering position, Jordan tried constantly to escape without garnering attention. However, the fifty-year-old, former boxer was much too strong. He crushed her body against his.Alcohol oozed from Luther’s pores and irritated her nose. His arms were locked so tight, that she found it difficult to breath. When she finally inhaled, his stale odor filled her lungs."What’s this all about, Luther?” She struggled and pushed against him."Ah, Jordan. I just want a dance." Undoubtedly inebriated, his words were jumbled together.Luther forced her to take a couple of awkward turns. Using brute force, he gyrated his chunky body into hers. Jordan felt battered by his assault. Turning her head, she looked into his blood shot eyes. There, she saw callousness in the depth of his soul. She resisted. "I'm only going to say this once," she warned. "Take your hands off me."Her demand seemed to incense him, as he tightened his grip. “Get off your high horse, Jordan." He enunciated each word, drooling as he spoke. "I've had my eyes on you for a long time. You need a man in your life. You know it too. Just being near me makes you quiver."Want more than a taste of Cherished Moments? Buy your copy now.

Tina's Titillating Teaser - Whispers in the Dark by Kris Bock

Whispers in the Dark

- Blurb
Young archeologist Kylie Hafford heads to the remote Puebloan ruins of Lost Valley, Colorado, to excavate. Her first exploration of the crumbling ruins ends in a confrontation with a gorgeous, angry man who looks like a warrior from the Pueblo’s ancient past. If only Danesh weren’t so aggravating… and fascinating. Then she literally stumbles across Sean, a charming, playful tourist. His attentions feel safer, until she glimpses secrets he’d rather keep hidden. The summer heats up as two sexy men pursue her. She finds mysteries – and surprising friendships – among the other campground residents. Could the wide-eyed woman and her silent children be in the kind of danger all too familiar to Kylie?  Mysterious lights, murmuring voices, and equipment gone missing plague her dig. A midnight encounter sends Kylie  plummeting into a deep canyon. She’ll need all her strength and wits to survive. Everything becomes clear – if she wants to save the man she’s come to love and see the villains brought to justice, she must face her demons and fight. Whispers in the Dark, romantic suspense set in the Four Corners region of the Southwest, will appeal to fans of Mary Stewart, Barbara Michaels, and Terry Odell.
- Except
I hit something, bounced, scraped, and finally landed with a thud that rattled my whole body. I lay in the dark, blinded, my head ringing, pain washing over me in great waves. My lungs screamed for air, but it seemed like I’d forgotten how to breathe. Finally I dragged in a breath. I closed my eyes and focused on breathing, waiting for the world to settle into place. Rain misted my face, so I must be lying on my back. My head felt heavier than my feet. I shifted and realized I was lying on a slope with my head pointing down.I tried to concentrate on those little details. I couldn’t handle anything more. Panic fluttered around me, but I refused to think about anything but the present moment. I flexed my fingers. When that worked, I moved my hands over my body, up to my face. My head throbbed, but when I felt around my skull, I didn’t find any serious damage.I had to move. The thought battered at the back of my mind, a panicky whisper that I tried to ignore. I had to run. Hide. He was after me. I had to get away.I clenched my teeth hard, as if I could bite back the pain and fear. Memories crowded in, like panicked ghosts wailing at the edges of my mind. Guns, strange men. Dangerous, threatening men. Danesh trying to protect me, the gun going off. My own helpless, panicked flight. Helpless. Worthless. Unable to fight, unable even to scream.I tried to focus on this one moment, the physical sensations of my aching body as I lay on the hard, damp ground. The cold against my bare calves, the lump of rock pressing into my shoulder. That focus helped keep me grounded in the present. Never mind that this present wasn’t a place I wanted to be. I had to deal with reality. But I didn’t have to also deal with nightmares. Not now.The little whimpers in my throat faded to short gasping breaths. I held on to this moment, this single slice of reality. Now to move forward. I didn’t have to like it, but I had to do it. One step at a time.

Tina's Titillating Teaser - Rakes in Tartan by @Suzdemello

- Blurb

Rakes in Tartan by Suz deMello
Setting: London, 1816
The social season promises both sex and danger for Torquil Kilburn and Andrew MacReiver, Highland heirs arrived in London to seek brides. The Scotsmen must negotiate the complicated morés of high society to woo and win an exquisite debutante and her passionate, unconventional mother while keeping their vampire heritage a secret.
But evil stalks the ballroom at Almack’s, the streets of Piccadilly, the drawing rooms of the ton. Headless bodies have been found drained of their blood, for another vampire haunts the streets of London, murdering noblemen. As he draws ever closer, Tor and Andrew must fight not only for love, but for their lives
Excerpt

“Tell me, did you enjoy your former fiance’s kisses?” Tor asked.
“Sometimes,” Huldra answered honestly. “Other times, not so much.”
“What did you notice about the times you did not care for his kisses?”
She frowned. “He would become very wet. Almost like a drooling puppy.”

“I shall avoid imitating a puppy.” His arms tightened, and he covered her mouth with his.
His lips were cool, but the fire they ignited was anything but. She felt him entirely, not merely his mouth caressing hers, but his long, strong body pressed against her own, which seemed oddly to have become feather light. One hand reached up to stroke her cheek, and the other urged her even closer. His unique scent surrounded her, filling her senses, and she only distantly heard the wind sighing through the trees. She was much more concerned with the groan of pleasure emanating from Tor’s throat as he stroked her lips with his.
He stopped and she let out a little protesting cry.
“’Tis all right. But open your mouth for me, sweetling.”
She frowned and narrowed her eyes.
He laughed. “I promise not to slobber.”
“Umm…very well, then.”
He laughed some more before he again bent his head to take her mouth, which she opened but hesitatingly.
He flicked his tongue around her lips. Hmm. That felt good, so she opened a little more.
“Give me your tongue, love.”
What?”
He fixed her with a firm glance and lifted his brows. “Do it, lassie.”
She responded to his command and lifted her face for another kiss. This time, he parted her lips with his and eased in his tongue. She met him halfway, and found she enjoyed the sensation of Tor stroking her tongue with his.
‘Twas almost like talking! She’d recede, and he would chase. Then he slid his tongue away, and she searched for it with hers. Finding it was like sucking on the tastiest candy ever. She became aware of the rest of her body, and his. Especially the warmth where they pressed together, hottest at the junction of her thighs.

She was accosted by the thought that this was what her mother had warned her against, but she didn’t care. She could do this all day and all night long. She could gladly kiss Torquil Kilburn for the rest of her life.
Her body jolted. She’d known she liked him but hadn’t realized… Her mind spun, and she swayed in his arms. He held her tighter, supporting her weight without apparent effort, but didn’t stop kissing her.
She fell again into the bliss of his touch, allowing her concerns to recede in the face of such overwhelming pleasure.
Then gradually his tongue, and then his lips, slowly withdrew. He released her and stepped back, holding on to only her hands.
“Woof,” he said.
She burst out laughing.

Tina's Titillating Teaser - Dragon & Destiny

Blurb:

The awakening of his dragon soul twin, Llewlyn, brought Dragshi Lord Branin near-eternal life, but not happiness. As a dragshi, he can take on dragon form and know the freedom of flight, however, both are the last of their kind and have waited millennia for their mates. The firebrand raider, Lady Broch is more than willing to fulfill that position -- with or without Branin's willing cooperation.

When a faint thought impinged on Branin's mind, hope for an ending to eons of loneliness soared. Plagued by doubts because no signs of a dragon shifter's birth have been seen, Branin searches the world for the mysterious girl he only knows by the name, Anastasia.

All that stands between happiness and a lifetime alone is destiny—and Broch.

Excerpt:

“Master Vivel said you asked him to find me. And just before the gryphlor attacked, you said you searched for me. Sire, I don’t mean to be impertinent, but why would a dragshi lord be interested in a trader girl?”

Although he knew her question was inevitable, Branin dreaded how she would respond. He gave her the answer he had prepared. “Your mental contact was unusually strong for a true human. It is a talent to be protected and treasured.” Branin watched the expression on Anastasia’s face while she digested his words. When he felt she had enough time, he changed the topic. “Now tell me more about life in a trader caravan.”

Her detailed description of the towns she had passed through, and the everyday events in Alcari helped pass the minutes until the full moon lit the wooded path, enabling them to continue their journey back to the camp. The hampering growth and the exhaustion creeping into his legs reduced Branin’s enjoyment of the walk. He could only guess how much the tree roots that kept catching Anastasia’s feet and slowing her pace, tired her. Finally, she stumbled and fell. Catching her before she landed in the thorny underbrush beside the path, he swung her up in his arms.

“You’ve had a long day. Rest a bit. When my arms get tired, you can walk some more.”

Her soft reply of, “Thank you, sire. I just need a moment,” failed to change his mind to carry her to the ends of the earth.

Her closeness just accentuated the growing mental bond between them. He caught her blush when she looked up at the reddish hue of the beard stubble that now covered his features. More disconcerting was her hastily suppressed thought that she would enjoy Branin carrying her forever.

Tina's Titillating Teaser is Written by #MFRWAuthor Kayelle Allen

Duty to king and country has shaped Raik's life since birth, but to protect them, she must perform a ritual that betrays all she holds sacred.

The Vhalgenn is a warrior, bedmate, soulmate, companion, and friend. Trusted by the king. Hated by the queen. To save the newborn prince, the Vhalgenn will risk her position, her honor, and death itself to honor the Old Ways. But when she takes the newborn prince to the queen's homeland for a ritual blessing, she discovers a betrayal so deep the kingdom -- and her heart -- might never recover.

This fantasy features a strong heroine, and was originally part of the 2008 EPIC eBook Award Finalist anthology A Time To... Volume 1 - The Best of The Lorelei Signal, from Wolfsinger Publications, which is now out of print. The strong female heroine possesses nobility, honor, and courage, and is a role model for women. The book is dedicated to all women warriors, whatever their battle, and is written by a female veteran.
Excerpt:

The Last Vhalgenn

By Kayelle Allen

In this scene from The Last Vhalgenn, the heroine, Raik, has just bathed and eaten, and is alone with King Orix. They grew up together, but his new queen barred Raik from the palace. Raik is back to deliver news of a battle and while delighted to be with Orix, is nervous about his queen discovering them.

---

Orix set his fingers beneath my chin, and turned my face up to his. "You're more than pretty, Vhalgenn, you're magnificent. She's never once sat near the fire with me and talked."

It had been our nightly ritual. "Never?"

"Never." He brushed my hair back from my face. "I've learned to get along with her, Vhalgenn, but I never had to learn anything with you. We grew up with one another. You were my partner in everything I did. My lover, my sister, my sparring partner, my best friend. My everything."

I lifted my head to look up at him. As I did, his mouth came down on mine. A feverish chill coursed through me at his touch. I'd wanted his mouth from the moment I'd seen him on his throne. Orix could not help but be languid and sultry and hot. I felt desire emanating from him like heat from an oven with its door ajar. It scorched my face and I drew in a shallow breath, afraid of being burnt.

Resisting him was something I had never done, except in play. He thought I meant it that way now and made as if to pressure me, until he saw my eyes were brimming.

"Please, Orix. Don't." I pushed myself away from him. "I can't."

He frowned, confused. For him, life was simple. A need? Fulfill it. Thirsty? Drink. Hungry? Eat. Lusty? Love.

"Half the palace must know I'm here. Do you think your queen will let this go unnoticed? She'll have someone in here to check on me before the night's through and I won't be thrown out again, Orix. I couldn't bear it."

"Vhalgenn, I promise. She'll never know."

"No!" I moved away from him. "She's no fool. She's your queen and she's risking her life to have your child. The least you can do is be faithful."

The look of horror on his face tore out a piece of my heart. Then I realized he was looking past me.

His pregnant queen stood in the darkness, right outside the door.

Tina's Teaser Takes on the Wilde Riders by @karenmbryson

- blurb:
WILDE RIDERS

FOUR WILDE BROTHERS...ONE WILDE COUNTRY BAND

WILDE RIDERS is the first novel in a spicy new contemporary romance series about four sexy brothers, their small-town bar and their local country band. WILDE RIDERS can be read as a STAND ALONE NOVEL or as part of the SERIES.

Cooper Wilde spent his entire adolescence counting the days until he could escape rural northwest New Jersey. Now at 26, he can't believe he's coming back. But his late father's bar, Haymakers, is in financial trouble and his older brother, Jake, has asked for Cooper's help.

Riley Smith, 25, is fresh out of her Ivy League MBA program and wants to make an impression on her employer, H & C Bank. Her first solo assignment is a fraud investigation on a business loan they made to Haymakers.

Even though Old Town is less than 90 minutes from New York City, Riley feels like she's stepped into another world in this remote, one-bar town. Riley can't wait to do her business and get back to the city as quickly as her sports car will take her...until she meets Cooper Wilde. He's not like the other guys in this rural town and Riley feels inexplicably attracted to him.

If you like your trucks loud, your beer cold and your men hot...you'll love WILDE RIDERS.

- excerpt

I can feel my stomach start to knot as I get further away from the city and further away from civilization. Pretty soon I’ll be in the sticks surrounded by woods and farmland. I can almost smell the manure that will no doubt take days to completely rid from my nasal passages. I pray that I don’t run into any animals, especially cows, which are huge, smelly and completely freak me out. The only live animals I ever care to see have to fit comfortably in a handbag, like a Chihuahua or Teacup Poodle, for example.
I have an appointment with a man named Jake Wilde. He asked me to come early, before the place opened at noon, so he could give me his full attention. I try to imagine what someone named Jake Wilde would look like and all I can come up with is an old gunslinger like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven.
As I pull into Old Town the place looks exactly like I thought it would. The buildings in the town square are old and I image the place hasn’t changed much in the last hundred years or so.
Haymakers is just past the town square, down the hill from the deli, next to the gas station. Those were the exact directions I was given, in those words. I take that to mean the town only has one gas station and one deli.
When I pull into the parking lot, there’s only one other vehicle sitting there. It’s an old beat-up Dodge Ram. Nothing like fitting the country bumpkin stereotype like a glove. Then I have a brief moment of panic and wonder if it’s safe to park my BMW in the dirt lot. Then I remind myself where I am. Who is going to mess with it in the middle of the day? A stray deer from the woods out back? The only thing I probably have to worry about is it getting dusty.
I take in a deep breath. I have to be thankful there’s no manure smell yet. The quicker you do this, I remind myself, the quicker you can get back to the lovely asphalt jungle you call home.
I’m hit with a gust of wind as soon as I get out of my car. How is it possible that Old Town is even windier than lower Manhattan? I didn’t think I’d ever find a place windier than Wall Street. Even the Windy City didn’t seem this windy when I had business in Chicago.
When I enter the bar, I try to smooth down my thick hair, which I know is probably a complete mess from the gust. I’m surprised by the homey feel of the place. How could someone like me possibly feel at home in a country bar? Even if I was wearing jeans and cowboy boots, if I even owned jeans and cowboy boots, I wouldn’t fit in at a place like this.
I hear someone clear his throat and I turn to see a guy about my age, mid-twenties, standing next to me. I can’t help my surprise when I see he’s wearing khakis and a polo shirt, like he just stepped off a golf course. He looks as out of place in this country bar as I feel.
“Are you Jake Wilde?” I ask.
The guy gives me the faintest hint of a smile but it’s almost as if it pains him to give that much. His deep brown eyes look even more distressed and I can’t help but wonder what’s behind those sad eyes.
He rakes his fingers through his thick dark hair. “A little windy out, isn’t it?”
My hand automatically goes to my hair and I try to casually flatten it down again. I imagine I must look like I just stepped out of a wind tunnel.
“Your hair looks fine,” the guy tries to assure me. But he’s got that hint of a smile on his face again and it makes me wonder if he’s lying just to make me feel better.
“I’m Cooper Wilde,” the guy says as he offers a hand.
I don’t know why I suddenly feel nervous about shaking it. It’s a business meeting. That’s what people do. But the way this guy is looking at me gives me the feeling that he might be interested in more than just business.
But I’m not, I remind myself. Not only because I’ve all but sworn off men, I’m here to do a job. I’ve been working for H & C Bank for two years and this is my first solo assignment as a lead investigator. If I continue to do well, I’ll be well on my way to becoming a Vice President before I turn thirty. I don’t need a man to throw me off my career trajectory. And definitely not some guy in a country bar in rural New Jersey.

Tina's Tidings of Author Tips

As writers we have to do more than just write.

Here are a few tips for getting things done

One
For those of you on twitter, if you use the software Hootsuite to schedule your tweets.  I have a friend that has developed a bulk uploader that is very helpful and save  time.

Check it out at  http://www.cliveeaton.com/hootsuitebulkuploader.html

Two

Want to reach as many English speaking customers across the different Amazon platforms then you need one single link that will work with all of them.

Here's the answer go to http://viewbook. at/

You can create a link that you can use across the board.

Very helpful for twitter, your website, blogs, etc. (Problem finding the time to change all these links.)

Three

Try to avoid some of these common writing mistakes.
FormatingPunctuasionShow vs. TellingTransition between scenes.Over descriptionPassive writingOver the next few weeks I'll work on explaining these more in detail.

Titillating Teaser by #MFRWorg @AuthorTinaGayle

What if we had family spirits that guided our lives?

In Summer's Growth, Amber Harrison is given the opportunity to become the Winston family keeper. She runs the family trust and lives in the family home.

Problem is she has to prove herself by solving a two hundred year old mystery.

The family spirits try to help her find the answers to the disappearance of her great, great, great, great, grandmother. Yet, there are forces which don't want her to find the answer. Luckily, the ghost of her grandmother is helping and saves Amber's life on more than one occasion.

Can Amber solve the mystery or will those who don't want the mystery revealed kick her out of her new job permanently by killing her?

Excerpt -

Mattie raised her chin as if ready to receive the blow. The resistance in her eyes warned of the fireworks to come. “Amber isn’t a stranger. She’s part of the family.”
Heedless of the danger, Cynthia forged ahead. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Having forgotten Josh, Amber jumped at the sound of his voice. “Mom, don’t you remember? Amber told us she’s part of the Winston family tree.”
Locked in combat with Mattie, Cynthia didn’t shift her gaze away from her sister. “I believe there’s more to it. Would you care to tell us the rest of the story, Mattie?”
She shrugged. “I have decided to name Amber as heir to the estate.”
Stunned, questions shot through Amber’s head like bullets. What? Did Winston Manor really belong to Mattie? Then who was Jonathan? And why did he write...
Cynthia jumped to her feet and screamed at the top of her lungs. “What in the hell do you think you’re doing? The estate is locked up in a trust fund.”
She threw her napkin on the table and slammed her hand down over it. “You idiot, just because this girl claims to be part of the family is no reason to award her the estate. We’re talking about my family legacy too.”
The sheer fury resonating from Cynthia’s body frightened Amber. Were the two sisters about to rumble?
“You have no right to hand it over to her or anyone else.” Cynthia pointed her finger at Mattie and continued with her tirade. “If you don’t want to be in charge of the trust fund, let Josh handle it. We’re your closest living relatives.”
The color drained from Mattie’s face, but she remained composed. “I’m sorry, but my mind is made up.”
“You’ll regret this. I won’t stand by and let you steal away my inheritance.” Cynthia pivoted on her heels and without a backward glance stomped to the door. “Come on Josh, we’re leaving.”
In shock, Amber waited for the scene to unfold. Josh stood, walked to his aunt, kissed her cheek and followed his mother out of the room.
The front door clicking shut didn’t interrupt the hushed sound of hurt radiating from Mattie.
Impatient for answers, Amber couldn’t remain silent. “This doesn’t make any sense. The letter I received said I’m supposed to inherit the estate from someone named Jonathan. Not you.”
A sad expression marred Mattie’s face and she patted Amber’s hand. “I know. I’m the current owner-slash-keeper of the estate. When I die, you’ll inherit the estate. Until then, you’ll be the new keeper or lead trustee.”
“But I don’t understand. It’ll be years before you die.” Amber swiveled her head around and studied Mattie's pale complexion. “Unless you’re sick?”
“No, but I’ve had the responsibility of the estate for a long time. I need to learn to do something else.” She shoved away her plate. “This arrangement will offer you the chance to learn what it takes to be the keeper. And it will free me up to figure out what I want to do. A nice exchange if you ask me.”
“But why didn’t you tell me this before?” Amber suspected more to the omission.
“I didn’t think it mattered.” Mattie rose, lifted her plate and walked into the kitchen.
“But Cynthia is your sister.” Amber rushed to gather up her dishes. “Shouldn’t one of them inherit the estate?”
