Uprooting Fears & Anxiety Towards Conquering Life’s Greater Challenges

You are worried, concerned, and struggling to handle your fears and anxiety. And with all the possible help, you are at best only able to suppress the situation through momentary distraction. So, what do you do to handle the Fear and resultant Anxiety? That concern about your job? The lack of clarity you would have when you lose your job. How will you pay the mortgages? What will happen to your children? Would your spouse be with you? What about the comforts? The more you think, the most...

Chaturanga: The Lost Wisdom from a Lasting Game of Chess

Chaturanga or Chaduranga is the predecessor of Chess. As played on an 8X8 unchecked board, Chaturanga was also called Ashtapada. It is, probably, the first strategy board game ever invented. Although we cannot be sure if the rules of the Chess and Chaturnaga are the same, what we can be sure, thanks to albeit limited historical records, is that the look of the game has barely changed.

There were, and are, thirty-two pieces on board divided equally between two parties: playing from two ends of...

Chanakya a.k.a. Kautilya’s 5 Crucial Advice to Leaders

Chanakya a.k.a. Kautilya was not the author of Arthashastra. He was its compiler, commentator, and editor at best. We know this for sure when we read Kautilya mentioning various earlier authors of Arthashastra, including Bharadwaj, Parashara, Pishuna, Shukracharya and the like. Unfortunately, Arthashastra of the earlier preceptors are lost and Kautilya’s Arthashastra is the only one that has passed down to us.

The original Arthashastra is at least over 3,500 years old. Kautilya’s Arthashastra...

Kritajnata: Gratitude and Appreciation vis-à-vis Dopamine and Serotonin

Dr. Maheshwari Prabhu PT

Why do people work so hard? Why do they earn all the money exhausting every ounce of energy within? Why do they pursue a path mired with stress, strain, pain, and discontent? Did you say happiness? If so, what is happiness? Are they Emotions? Of course, happiness is an emotion. From where do these emotions emanate from? Thoughts that stimulate such emotions stem from words; not just any words but words of appreciation; one that provides a sense of gratitude. It is the...

What is Artha? Why is it important?

By Dipika Mehra

Most people translate Vedic Sanskrit word Artha as Wealth. And Wealth for the majority of people around the world implies material possession and currency. This is by far a very narrow definition of Wealth.

Artha essentially signifies abundance, which is not limited to currency alone. Besides, Artha also translates to “meaning, sense, goal and purpose”, which gives it a broader perspective. Therefore, Artha can be better understood as that “meaningful wealth” which is the harbinger of abundance leading unto bliss....

What is Vedic Counselling? Why is it important?

Dr. Maheshwari Prabhu PT

It does not matter what a person might pursue in life, there is but one quintessential purpose behind such pursuits – happiness. But then the question many people often fail to ask is whether such pursuit must be mired in stress and its resultant pain. Is pain inescapable? Is it something we got to deal with without any choice? Is there a way out of it?

There can be no doubts about the fact that modern medicine has made great strides with the advancement in technologies. H...

Lakshmi: The Vedic Science of Wealth

Modern English dictionary defines wealth as “an abundance of valuable possessions or money” or “a plentiful supply of a particularly desirable thing.” Father of Capitalism – Adam Smith – in his book “The Wealth of Nations,” described wealth as “the annual produce of the land and labor of the society.” This “produce” is “that which satisfies human needs and wants of utility.” In popular usage, wealth is understood as an abundance of items of transactional value. Unfortunately, in today’s world...

Rishi & Wine

Long ago, in a city called Avantika, there lived a Rishi. He was held in high esteem not only by the common people but also by the king of the land. Whenever the king felt disturbed in mind, he would approach the Rishi. The Rishi’s wisdom-enriched advice would restore peace in the king’s mind.

“O great sage, I see that you wander from door to door begging for food. But that is not necessary. Please come and stay at the royal campus. I will cater to your needs,” proposed the king.

“That is not...
