Mahantam: The Vedic Interpretation of Greatness

Mahantam is Vedic Sanskrit word meaning Greatness. It consists of two words, namely: Maam or Self and Hantam or End. Therefore, Mahantam is also an absence of selfish desires and ego. Not surprisingly, according to Vedic knowledge and wisdom, a selfish person can seldom qualify as Great.

When Alexander, the king of Macedonia, marched with a formidable Greek army with the sole intention of conquering the world, he ransacked cities, destroyed civilizations, raped women, enslaved children and...

Kootaneeti: The Forgotten Art and Science of Covert Politics

Shakti or Power is the essence of Rajyam or Leadership. There are those who consider themselves to be either unlucky or undeserving of power as they cannot comprehend the dynamics of attaining or retaining it. Those who consider themselves to be deserving of power are often the same who are unable to handle it. As a result, such people turn up as leaders who are used, misused and/or abused by those around them. They are branded as Ashaktas or incompetent by Kautilya a.k.a. Chanakya. Those who...

From Mindless Trepidations to Mindful Thoughts

चिंता (Chinta) implies the trepidations of the mind. When the mind is engrossed in thoughts causing anxieties, fear, concern, and sleeplessness, it is due to Chinta. It is a detrimental quality that can severely impair the minds ability to observe, think, plan and act. A person engrossed in Chinta can confuse the opportunity for a threat and mistake a danger for a chance.

In his कारिका Karika, or commentary, on Mandukya Upanishad, Acharya Gaudapada states:

सरवभिलापविपगत: सरवचिनतासमुतथित: |...

Why the collapse of Chinese Communist Party may now be inevitable?

Corona Virus, better known as Covid19, started in China, which is the reason why US President Donald Trump insisted on calling it the Chinese Virus. It originated in China! that is how POTUS explained it. And it may not be right to call him a racist for that. After all, the pandemic of 1920 was called Spanish Flu because it originated in Spain.

Covid19 has devastated the world more than we know. And even though the deaths may be contained the consequence of this virus on the global economy...

Is Collapse of European Union Imminent?

On March 29, 2019, amid chaos and economic uncertainty in his country, and the European Union, finance minister of Hesse state in Germany, Thomas Schäfer committed suicide. Hesse is home to Germanys financial capital Frankfurt, where major lenders like Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank have their headquarters. The European Central Bank (ECB) is also based here. Late Schäfer (54), who was Hesses finance chief for a decade, had been working relentlessly without much sleep to help companies and...

Corona Lock down: Contemplate instead of Complaining

As the world is locked down and people are confined to homes exposed to countless mindless forwards and a flood of data, mindfulness can keep your head above water.

An empty mind is the devils workshop. These days having fed the mind with mindless gossip, doomsday projections from careless forewords, and unmindful media reports, many are already suffering substantial anxiety and are emotionally distressed.

As Vedic Rishi (sage) Sushruta, who is popularly known as Father of Surgery, mentions...

How to Succeed in the Post Corona Virus Economy

According to the International Monetary fund the Coronavirus pandemic will cause a global recession in 2020 that could be worse than the one triggered by the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 one that could show signs of recovery only in 2021. No wonder the news has not gone well with anyone globally; there is a sense of panic and grave concern about this dangerous economic recession.

Yet perhaps the worst thing about a recession is the fear it generates in the minds of people....

Covid19 & The Economic Cost of a Fear

The Kautilyan Perspective column by U Mahesh Prabhu

Let me start with an ancient Vedic Sanskrit tale:

A long time ago, the goddess of disease went from village to village, making people severely sick. However, in one village, the village goddess stopped her from entering since she was morally bound to protect them. The goddess of disease argued, It is your Karma (virtue) as well as Dharma (Duty) to protect it is mine to cause illness and death to balance the population on Mother Earth. We...

Vedic, Aztec & Mayan: The Unmistakable Cultural Similarities Between Three Ancient Civilizations

In 1940 a Buddhist Bhikshu (monk) named Chaman Lal authored & self-published a book entitled HINDU AMERICA. His objective was to reveal the forgotten immortal links of ancient Indian (read Vedic) civilization with the Aztec and Mayan civilizations of Mexico along with the Ayar-Inca rulers of the Ayar Empire. The book, filled with several circumstantial pieces of evidence and supporting theories, failed to make its point owing to several misrepresentations. But the very idea of Vedic, a.k.a....

72 Pearls of Wisdom from Yoga Vashistha

After embarking on a long and tiresome pilgrimage, Prince Rama of Ayodhya found himself disillusioned with the world. He was overwhelmed by the pains of the people he met during his travel and saw the world around him to be gruesome. He was not sure why the world and life were so unfair. He had so many questions that every time he tried to answer them, he landed him in an abyss of confusion. The ones close to him werent of any help. Eventually, his enthusiasm for his duties fell steeply,...
