Election Recovery Prescription

I predict we're all stressed from the election process. There have been a lot of words thrown about and many were not kind. So, I recommend a healthy dose of fiction to cure the blues and reds. Chicken soup for the soul? My new novel, Comfort Foods, is one of many that have been brought to the book market this month and, like so many others, offer a few hours in an imagined world as an antidote for what puzzles us about our future.

I hope you, dear readers, can return to your bookshelf of beloved favorites or new books, and find the comfort you need to recharge your mental and emotional batteries. Thanks for supporting authors of all stripes as readers and authors work together in this process of informing and entertaining each other.

May you have a mental vacation since it's unlikely we can travel farther than our armchairs these days.

Bye, Bye Books

Today was the first book event for my newest novel, Comfort Foods, and it was a doozy. I paired up with one of my favorite local shops--Barron's--who was hosting their annual Christmas Showcase and benenfitted from a lot of shoppers who were so happy to have a reason to leave their homes and venture into retail again.

Comfort Foods tells the story of a social media blogger who flames out spectacularly and lands in Comfort, Texas. As she sorts out what remains of her life, she gets involved with friends and their projects, and in turn, meets an Austin, TX chef who is on the verge of professional ruin. But, when they get in the kitchen together magic happens.

Thankfully so many shoppers left Barron's today with books in their bags and something sweet to read on those crisp autumn nights. Can't wait to hear what they think of Lacy and Rudy's story. If you'd like to get in on the new novel, you can find it on Amazon either in paperback or e-Book. I promise, it's calorie free.

Comfort Songs WINS BIG at 2019 Bloggers Choice Awards

To my astonishment, the Texas Hill Country fiction, Comfort Songs, took BIG prizes at the 2019 Bloggers Choice Awards from Lone Star Literary. WOW!! It won Best Texas Book, Best Romance, and runner-up for Best Cover. For a novel about a woman discovering her grit--this is good news!!

Family dysfunction, lavender farming, friend groups, and an unexpected romance are the surprises that fill the pages of Comfort Songs, and perfectly set the runway for the fall debut of Comfort Foods--third book in the series set in Comfort, Texas. Find them all at www.kimberlyfish.com or look for them on Amazon.

I hope you'll discover they're worthy of your reading time, and maybe you'll enjoy a mental vacation in a season when we need some good stories.

Comfort Foods on the Burner

Finishing last rounds of editing on my newest novel set in Comfort, Texas has thickened my waist. I've been playing with recipes from Comfort Foods, inspired by one of the main characters, Rudy Delgado, a chef in a fine dining restaurant. Thankfully, my family has embraced this new form of experimentation, but I've been looking for an outlet to place the recipes. I know it's not unusual to include them in a novel, but I'm going to ask if that's overdone in today's book world? Would a reader feel more or less endeared to a character if the recipes appeared there, on an author's blog, or if they're even an asset at all?

This may not be the venue to ask that sort of questions, but readers know everything, right?? Or at least we think we do, so respond with some input regarding including character inspired recipes on the back pages of a book. Thanks!

BONUS Epilogue for Comfort Songs

For readers registered to receive my e-newsletter at kimberlyfish.com ... I have a gift to give. Don't worry if you've haven't signed up yet, you can scoot over there right now and take care of business.

The December 15th newsletter goes out with a ribbon-wrapped bonus epilogue to the 2019 novel, Comfort Songs. This book received so many 5 star reviews and great feedback that it felt good to write an exclusive and dazzling second epilogue; tying a few remaining knots and offering a couple of surprises for readers who followed AJ Worthington and Luke English through the obstacles of their second chance romance.

I love to give gifts, and bookish ones are my sweet spot. Please allow me the opportunity to show you what can be done with a story when a little mistletoe and magic are sprinkled over the final pages.

Merry Christmas, friends.

It's Lone Star Literary Blog Tour Time!

Comfort Songs has been sitting on the Too-Be-Read stacks for Lone Star Literary bloggers this month, and the reviews are about to roll out. Am I nervous? Of course.
I value the time a blogger invests in my book, and I know that they'll give an honest review. And that's what authors are seeking--even if the feedback is painful.
That's the biggest risk few discuss in book world--that some books fail to resonate with readers. I'm one of those authors that seeks to entertain readers, so finding out if the plot, pacing, and characters live up to their expectations is paramount. The proof of that ... reviews.
So, my nails may be bit frayed these next two weeks as I wait for the posts on GoodReads, Amazon, FB, Twitter, and my author page, Kimberly Fish, author; but the analysis will be priceless.
Hope you'll take a risk on new authors too. There's so much power and freshness on the market these days, and it's my hope that good books rise to the top--maybe it will be yours.

Inspiration Places and Going Back

I had the privilege of revisiting an inspiration location for my novel, Comfort Songs, yesterday, and all the feels rushed back reminding me why I invented a location just like Blue Moon Gardens in my story.

Have you wondered where authors get their ideas for places? I'm sure so many writers create houses/buildings/storefronts from their imaginations, but in this case, I borrowed from reality. The town of Comfort, Texas is real, but the place Lavender Hill where my main character, AJ Worthington, has crafted a destination lavender farm and gift shop is based on my days spent shopping and wandering a garden center in Edom, Texas.

I hope you'll feel a sense of authenticity in the novel because I had photographs and specific memories to guide me in writing the scenes at Lavender Hill. Let me know what you think.

Texas and Lavender Farms

Did you know lavender farms are an aromatic addition to the limestone landscape of central Texas? I discovered this several years ago and immediately set out to write a novel that would reflect the kind of farm/shop/endeavor I could fantasize owning. Yes, if you can't do it in real life, write about it.

My new novel, Comfort Songs, tells the story of a female lavender grower caught up in the tangled roots of her family dysfunction as her parents--Grammy-award recording stars who've fallen far from grace--have descended on her farm for restoration. She's inclined to give it, if they'll cut all ties to the music industry. The will they/won't they stakes are raised when a handsome music executive tracks down the lavender farm and sets about upending everyone's carefully planned futures.

If you like small town settings, second chance romances, and family sagas in need of hope and forgiveness, then please take a chance on my newest book, Comfort Songs. Available at a variety of online and eBook locations, and honest reviews are welcomed.

Romance Week! Who doesn't love a great love story??

Some of the best love stories look doomed from the start. I write novels of women discovering their grit (grace under pressure, perseverance) and self-discovery is not one of the typical cornerstones of romantic fiction. BUT, is there anyone less appealing than someone who has just discovered their own power?? Male. Female. People who are comfortable in their own skin and know their worth are imminently attractive people. Those are my characters--eventually. The second chance romance I write are all about both the heroine and hero finding the inner grit and then doing something about it. Love follows. From historical fiction to contemporary, I write stories that I like to read about characters that I can identify with--I'm hopeful you like those stories too.
As cupid's arrows are flying and chocolate and wine on are so many tables, let's remember that one of the most attractive quality a human being can possess is .. . confidence--particularly if that swagger came at a price.

I hope you will discover your own grit, and glow with the power that comes from knowing you can overcome.
