Book Review: The First City by Joe Hart
The First City by Joe Hart
My Rating: 5 of 5
Those who read my review of The Final Trade will already know that I was disappointed with the very end with the reveal that Zoe is the Keystone (The Chosen One!!!).
Thankfully, in The First City, Keystone is just a word. After all the experiments that NOA performed on Zoe and the other women at the ARC, Zoe's eggs have been harvested to

Galactic-Con
This past Saturday was a blast, although I must admit I came home absolutely exhausted. I met a ton of cool people: fans and fellow artists. The other writers I met do a ton of conventions and I will totally pick their brains on what works and doesn't as far as selling books in person and which other local cons I should go to.
I did learn quite a few things from my first convention experience

Book Review: Aletheia by Megan Tennant
Aletheia by Megan Tennant
My rating: 5 of 5
Aletheia follows a young woman only known by her number, 736. She lives with the other numbered and nameless people in an underground compound. In exchange for the cure to the awful disease which has ravaged the human population, she gets to live as a slave working to support the utopian city above ground.
The settings in Aletheia are beautifully

Top 10 Writing Channels on YouTube
I'm one of those people who canceled my cable subscription several years ago and relies completely on the internet for all of my video consumption. I had a mac mini hooked up to the TV (since Roku hadn't really caught on at that point) to stream Netflix and watch YouTube.
To avoid sounding like a total hipster (I canceled cable before it was cool) I'll just get to the point. I watch a lot of

Waterproof Your Summer Reading
It's been a pretty crazy week. This week marks the first big promotional push for The End of Refuge which has been more successful than I ever imagined. The neighbor who watches the kids while I write has been on vacation so I haven't had much time to work on my manuscript. And then my daughter hurt her elbow and was at the ER until 2 am (she's totally fine now).

Book Review: Rise of the Chosen by Anna Kopp
Rise of the Chosen by Anna Kopp
My rating: 4 of 5
I was excited for this book to come out and wasn't disappointed.
In a post-apocalyptic Savannah, everyone who dies reanimates as either a woken (zombie-like killing machine) or chosen (super strong being with amazing self-healing). Killing either is incredibly hard. The story follows Sam, a young woman who's always dreamed of following her

Finding Time to Write
As a stay at home mom, I've always had to get a little creative to get writing in. It was easier when my daughter wasn't mobile and my son still took daytime naps.
As the kids have gotten bigger, I've had to adjust. Write-ins for NaNoWriMo were great for getting me out of the house and keeping me focused on sitting down to write. Preschool for my older child has given me a little more

In Defense of the Fidget Spinner
I have to admit it: I have become addicted. I had wanted to get my son a fidget spinner at some point and my husband was super intrigued by them. They have become so ubiquitous that we actually found some for sale at the grocery store. We picked out two and brought them home.
My husband quickly got tired of his. He got it to spin quickly. I guess that was sufficient for him. My son took a

Summer Writing Update
If you've read my post from last week (Comic Cons, Here I Come!) then you'll know I'm planning on doing some conventions and festivals. I've added an Events page and plan to keep a list of events I plan on attending.
I've been crazy busy recently and haven't had much time to sit down and think about what I would post, so I thought I'd just give you all a short little update.
Right now, I'm

Comic Cons, Here I Come!
When I learned that there was a comic book convention close to my home, I knew I'd be going. I've only been to a couple conventions in the past--this little one in Atlanta called Dragoncon and Blizzcon one year back when we lived in California. I'm really excited for this upcoming one because it's family friendly (and I have kids now) and won't be the same mega-scale as the others. I can
