Angry? Watch this…
Did you know there’s a positive side to anger?
Most of us try to avoid it as much as possible because it feels bad to be angry or to have others angry with us. Actually, there’s an important purpose to anger.
Anger is a spontaneous emotion that acts like a personal security alarm when it sounds it alerts us that there may be danger about. Like our home security systems, most alarms are false, but you don’t know till you investigate further.
The same is true with anger Most of the time there is a misunderstanding or misjudgment that’s created a false alarm. Yet, if its a real intruder, you want to know so you can protect yourself. When you feel angry, it means there’s a-potential violation and you must explore to discover if there’s real danger or its a false alarm. On the other hand, if we believe every alarm is real, our natural sense of trust will be compromised. When this happens, we invite unnecessary anxiety.
When you notice you’re feeling angry Do 3 things:
1) Fully allow yourself to feel it and give your body permission to express it safely (writing or movement), “Safely” means NOT to the person with whom you’re angry as damage can happen. The release is for your body…
2) Discern if there’s a real emotional/physical danger about or whether you or others are misunderstanding the situation. In other words you have to investigate.
3) Take specific steps to keep yourself emotionally safe
3 actions to consider:
Communicating with others
Clarifying your boundaries (with yourself and possibly speaking them to others)
Making requests and responding to others requests
Next time you feel angry Feel it–Safely Express it–Investigate Cause–Act to keep yourself emotionally safe!
When anger is stuffed, it can become hostility (cynical view of the world), which is associated with higher heart disease.
Warmly,
drdeb

Intimacy-What’s Sex Got to Do with it!
Have you noticed how quickly we think intimacy means SEX? It’s become an essential ingredient for most TV and movie plots. Yet, what of all the important relationships that aren’t sexual… with children, best friends, our true self, just to name a few. So what is emotional intimacy? And why do we need it?
Intimacy, as I see it, is a willingness to lay aside one’s defenses and allow pure connection with another without expectation or content. A willingness to be seen as you are and to see them as they are…. And it’s a basic human need.Researchers found that children in overcrowded orphanages who did not receive regular connection through individual attention and non-sexual touch actually died. And, when college students watched movies of Mother Teresa tending to homeless children, their immune systems showed spontaneous spikes… even the laughing boys who made fun of her while watching. The human psyche thrives on human connection.
Are you limiting your reservoir of connection to sexual/romantic relationships? I have a 4-day RIM Retreat coming up June 6-9 and I find that even in a small group most people are initially uncomfortable gazing into another’s eyes. Giggles and wiggles signal their nervousness. Yet, as they settle into seeing and being seen, they shift from self-consciousness to stillness. And before you know it, they are feeling connection in the silence. This uninhibited way of being with another is more nurturing than you can imagine, and creates a feeling of being accepted for who we are without pretense or performance. We could use some of that in our world!
Wow! In fact, connection is a form of meditation… we calm the mind and body merely by being present with another human being in a natural way. Self-consciousness and nervousness fall away to reveal a still and deep connection beneath thoughts and form. It gives me chills to remember the feeling… and so simple! Connection is our natural state that begins the human journey with union of egg and sperm in conception, expands during pregnancy until we are separated at birth. We subconsciously remember this original state of oneness and long for it’s return. Some of us seek it through sex, yet the intimacy of sex is temporary and entangled with unspoken expectations.
This month’s meditation is dedicated to our inherent ability to share emotional intimacy with anyone at anytime… with our clothes on!
Meditation: Simple Gazing
With your eyes open… softly gaze into a mirror… Taking a deep cleansing breath… relax into sensing this human being the you who gazes back from the reflective surface… letting go of any desire to critique or think about how s/he looks… you soften even more as you focus your attention on these eyes, especially the right one…
Ahhh… you sense the soulfulness!
Allowing a connection with your true self, you notice whatever’s there, especially the vulnerability… and whatever emotion arises in the body is received as energy without thought… as you settle into a place of greater comfort and ease.
Hmmm… you sense the humanity!
Receiving the wholeness of this being who returns your gaze… you settle into an expanded knowing of yourself…
A beautiful blending of soul and body…
inner and outer…
How LOVELY!

What’s Regenerating in You?
Ready For Regeneration?
It’s spring in Colorado or Fall in Australia!
Either way, it’s a time of transition… what was is passing away… and the New is arriving…
Our house has been smelling like a garden with lovely-birthday flowers. Yet, I noticed they were looking pretty sad and smelling kinda bad. Throwing them away-felt sad (ending) and also good (beginning).
Although we love to be in bloom, it’s the-natural cycle of Life to regenerate. If we linger there can arise-a feeling of sluggishness. When we go with it there’s a feeling of anticipation…
What’s dying away for you right now? Old habits… old doubts… old sadness… current celebrations… taking the easy way out… relationships…
What’s coming…new projects… greater success… more fun… new relationships
This month’s meditation guides you through letting the old go-away and the new sprout.

Written Meditation
Taking a deep cleansing breath, hold it to the count of 4 and then exhale to the count of 4…
As you are aware of your breathing… notice the air flowing in and your exhale moving out…
Allowing your attention to settle into your belly…
you imagine breathing in through your navel and out through the small of your back…
Taking more deep breaths in through your belly button and out your lower back,
you notice how you are settling down into the center of your body…
Relaxing more and more into yourself, your imagination brings a sensing of what’s dying away in your life…
Receiving it as best as you can…you immediately sense whatever shows up first… as a word, image or feeling….
Receiving whatever shows up… you move into it remaining as open as possible…
As that fades away…
welcome the feeling of emptiness and receptivity to what wants to sprout…
Notice where it is in your body… move into it and feel it’s energy…
Whatever’s here receive it as fully as possible…
As you rest in this regenerative energy…
like a seed germinating just beneath the earth’s surface… You are preparing to sprout…
soaking up the moisture and warmth from the sun… something is happening inside you…
a chemical change that is freely allowing life to grow through you…
It feels so right to be one with life… one with growth… one with all that is…
Naturally you are expanding toward the sun as your roots deepen into the earth… You grow taller and more substantial… Noticing how this feels… you become aware of how life is preparing you for the next big thing…
whatever it is comes easy and organically…
You are right were you are suppose to be… conspiring with life to express your unique purpose… your natural gifts…
and it’s easy and natural and exciting and fun…
It feels so good to know…

Love Love Love…
Today is the day we celebrate LOVE! Sonnets, love songs, flowers, chocolates, passionate embraces and whispered endearments are the rituals of Valentine’s Day.
This year, in addition to your beautiful experience of romantic love, I invite you to multiply your good vibrations. It’s takes no extra time… and it’s quite simple. Open your heart to each person you meet/greet today whether a passing stranger on the street or a distant co-worker in the corner. When you share love through your presence, it ripples out into the world and creates an energy of lightness all around.
You’ve noticed it… that good feeling you get when you walk past a happy person who sees you and smiles. Without words or content, you feel acknowledged and a sparkling exchange of affection happens in a flash. No need for a relationship or knowledge of personal details… Rather, you share a universal experience of being on this human journey together with all it challenges, desires and joys. As you connect in this nameless way, you become a fountain of love overflowing with child-like joy and smiles and everyone around you is nourished.
These universal love sparks boomerang back to your heart bringing ever greater warmth and connection. You’re never alone because you share your humanity with billions of people around the world. Are you feeling it? A lightening of your thoughts, your feelings, your cells… your body instantly and subconsciously understands your relationship to all humankind and responds without your mind even thinking about it.
Yes, and as you gaze into the mirror, see the number ONE person who deserves your LOVE… YOU!
You are unique and amazing and we love you…

A Meditation to Make 2018 Your Year!
It’s 2018! What’s Ahead for You?…
The New Year has dawned and it’s all yours to do with it what you will!
You and I know when we have a roadmap of where we are going, we’re more likely to get there. This blog-meditation is designed to help you design a roadmap for your coming year.
For years, I’ve participated with a group of women to vision the new year-for ourselves and each other. It has been extremely helpful to see the images that show up… and at the end of the year to realize how frequently they happened in real time.
You are invited to be part of this group! Enclosed is the written and audio meditation that allows your imagination to share with you what’s in store for 2018. No worries, I will guide you through it.
I learned this process in 1998; Michael Bernard Beckwith authored it and you can learn more about him in his book and CD sets titled Life Visioning (see www.Amazon.com). He is an amazing man with a beautiful presence.

Here’s Your Recorded Holiday Meditation
Written Meditation c 2015 Dr. Deb Sandella
(I’m happy to have you, be sure to include my name and credits below)
Gently close your eyes… and feel the aliveness of your heartbeat…
your breath… the sensitivity of your skin to touch…
Sense the joy of your soul that wants to express through your body, mood, work and play in 2018… Find this energy inside your body now…
whether’s it’s huge or as small as the head of a pin doesn’t matter…
As you sense it… your imagination shows you it’s size, shape and color…
take a minute to notice…
Move into it and be this energy…
Welcome this part of you that wants to be, act and have a delightfully powerful time…
and feel your body tingle…
Ask your imagination, “What is the divine vision for my 2015?
What does it look like…
(freely receive whatever thoughts, feelings, images etc. that come…
record them on paper allowing several minutes)
How does my life look as this divine vision for 2015 manifests?…
(freely receive whatever thoughts, feelings, images etc. that come…
record them on paper allowing several minutes)
What Needs to be Released for this vision to manifest?…
(freely receive whatever thoughts, feelings, images etc. that come…
record them on paper allowing several minutes)
What Needs to be embraced for this vision to manifest?…
(freely receive whatever thoughts, feelings, images etc. that come…
record them on paper allowing several minutes)
What else wants to be known?…
(freely receive whatever thoughts, feelings, images etc. that come…
record them on paper allowing several minutes)
After you’ve completed the visioning…
Spend time talking or writing about the meaning of these
images, thoughts & feelings…
Allow them to formulate into a sense of direction for the coming year…
Wishing You an Out-of-this-World Wonderful Coming Year! Enjoy your meditation!

Finding Your Center in the Midst of Holiday Busyness
During my meditation this week, I felt my hands buzzing with activity, yet they felt disconnected from the rest of my body. I didn’t notice till I closed my eyes and focused inward; it was a bit shocking to feel reduced to busy hands without a body. It seemed there was nothing substantial to sustain my mindless activity, and I could sense growing tired.
As I brought my awareness into my hands, the neuron pathway to my core lit up and I began to feel like a whole person again. I noticed I became more focused and there were fewer errors from rushing. It was a strange sensation to feel I had hurried so much, I had left myself behind.
Stop, whatever you’re doing and take a few deep breaths and bring your attention back into your body and notice how it feels.

As you sense this, your imagination gives the energy size, shape and color if its moving, youll notice the specifics.
As you have this, move your attention into it as best as you can.
Notice what happens and how you feel
As your attention is here in your body, youll notice the neurological pathway to your spine begin to light up

Notice how this feels different than it did before
Sense how it feels to be aware of the rest of your body from this place

Giving Thanks for You!
Giving Thanks for you!
The first Thanksgiving in 1621 celebrated the coming together of the Wampanoagto native american tribe and the first Americans in the original colonies. All these years later, we still reap great joy from appreciating the rich relationships and abundance in our lives.
Thank you for being in relationship with me. We have come together each month to dip into meditation, and I cherish the presence you bring to the world. Thank you for being you because no one else can. Sharing your unique expression is a most important purpose.
Are you ready to talk turkey about gratitude? Just for a moment allow yourself to pause and bring into mind the image of someone or-something that brings you great joy… (PAUSE-yes really do it) and notice how your-body immediately softens. When we focus-our attention on people and experiences that make us happy, we automatically activate the release of feel-good hormones.
A grateful biochemistry produces greater-physical energy, better health and more-resilience. Similar to how the taste of a-tablespoon of salt in a lake is significantly-less than a tablespoon of salt in a cup of-water, the impact of daily irritations is lessened-when they fall into our reservoir of calm.
Click below to join me on a lovely journey-of thanksgiving where you’ll rev up your-juicy positive vibes!

Shock and Sadness–How to Cope?
“The largest mass shooting in modern history” is what it’s called. To me, it seems we’re a country suffering a broken heart. Loss is no easy fix as we all know and in this event 58 people lost their lives, 58 families lost their loved ones, more than 500 people lost the feeling of safety and all of us lost some innocence.
Yet, unified in our grief, the best of us comes forth to help, protect and care for each other. Open-hearted, generous sharing is the silver lining created by such a tragic event. We feel real… we feel alive… we feel connected.
My invitation to you and me is to allow this realization to guide us. Coming together for the better good is our neurological nature. Our nervous systems are designed to connect with others in loving ways and when we do our bodies feel the goodness–no matter what our political, cultural, religious or educational differences. In fact, research found that when college students watched videos of Mother Teresa helping poor children the whole class received a boost in their immune system. Even the immature young men who were making fun.
As I write this blog, thunder rumbles, hail drops while the sky is brightly sunny overhead–isn’t that just like life! Flowing with inconsistencies… and Mother Nature never apologizes because that’s just the way life is…
Life calls us forth–sometimes the hero, sometimes the rescued. In the end, they are the same…

Hero Meditation
Dr. Deb Sandella
Right now, close your eyes and with a deep cleansing breath relax down into your body… Taking a few minutes to rest here… you’ll notice something inside you calling your attention… it’s your hero. Receive it as best as you can regardless of where it’s hiding in your body… no matter whether it’s large or small…smooth or rough… warm or cool…
Noticing what color your attention gives it, imagine being in that raw hero energy that you were born with… it’s always been there and always will… and right now you’re choosing to allow it to be felt…
Notice the feeling of it as you immerse yourself… swimming in, around and into it…
Rest in this place as long as you want… allowing the hero in you to be know and allowed as much as possible…
From this place, gaze out at humanity with all it’s joys and sorrows… all it’s ups and downs… all it’s agreements and conflicts… all its brilliance and ignorance… all its grace and awkwardness… all it’s wins and losses…
Noticing a feeling of generosity rising up from your core, you allow it to flow from you out into the world blessing all the inconsistencies and polarities of life… just the way they are…
Your body responds and you notice how this feels… something feels good to united with what is… even though we may not agree with it… something within you knows you are part of something greater than you’ve ever imagined… even if you don’t what it is or how to do it… it just is… you just are… the way you are… hero and rescued all in the same…
And so it is!

Finding Resilience in Uncertainty
Historic hurricanes and wildfires, political fights and threats of nuclear war. If your eye is trained on the external environment, there’s plenty to make you afraid.
Yet, time and time again, we see the human spirit rise above the muck rather than getting stuck in it. I remember a woman sharing with me the story of losing her adolescent son in a car accident. She described her life afterwards as a blackened, desolate forest that had been destroyed by wildfire. And then one spring, much to her surprise, little tufts of green growth began to peek out of the dark and barren forest floor, and she began growing a new life. Similarly, your nature is inherently resilient even when you’re not feeling it. Your body and spirit is driven to survive and thrive.
Where do you find resilience? Jill Bolte Taylor is a neuroscientist who suffered a stroke in her left brain that disabled her executive functions. In her book “My Stroke of Insight,” she describes that as her ability to function deteriorated, she began sensing a profound connection with the Universe that brought feelings of peace, love and joy. This inner ecstasy was so powerful, she was tempted to lie down and enjoy it. Yet, she knew she had to seek help to live. Her mind eventually was able to dial the phone for help and she survived. She now shares her message that feelings of love, peace and joy are found in our right creative brain not through the thinking left hemisphere. When we think too much, we can get wound up like a spring and lose hope, but our deepest selves are not that.
This month’s meditation is a guided trip into your inner world, so you can remember who you are, what’s important to you and where you are going… Enjoy!

Speak the Following for Yourself…
I close my eyes and taking a cleansing breath, I inhale through my nose and exhale through my mouth. I take another deep breath and in exhaling, I let my shoulders sink toward the earth and settle into greater relaxation. How easy it is to nestle into myself as I release any need to be “somebody” or to “achieve something.” I am merely me, a body and spirit surviving in a world of many distractions and diversions.
Setting aside all else, I claim this time, and dive into the depths of my authentic self. The descent is easy and natural as I shed any pretense of being a particular way. I am what I am, I feel what I feel, I welcome it all and trust the process of being natural.
Settling into my center, I allow the feelings to flow–like turning the faucet and letting the waters of life wash away the residue of living. Sadness, joy, anger, rage, jealousy, happiness–whatever comes rises to the surface and is embraced as a fleeting taste of life. Each drop falls as a testament to being alive, to having the human capacity to feel, and to having the spiritual capacity to see beyond it.
All else is unimportant at this moment. I am absorbed with the totality of who I really am. I awaken to the diverse continuum of my feelings–joy and sadness–laughter and tears–fear and courage. It is all me and it is not me. It is life itself flowing through me with seasons and transitions. With ups and downs. With beauty and ugliness. I welcome it all, and resistance melts away. With this disintegration, space is created. Open space, empty space. Profound space to be Me.
I am as vast as the Universe and as deep as the ocean. My capacity to experience life is pure and vital. Experiencing it all, I sense the truth of my nature. One with the one, I am imbued with powers to create, to heal, to transform. How could I have forgotten something so important? How could I have given up my nature to pretend I’m nothing more than my body? I let the questions pass and embrace the essence. Like all of creation, I too am magically imprinted with the capacity for miracles.
I am the soul who sought to be born in this specific body at this specific time. I am the energy of itself burning like a star emitting a light for all to see. I am the unique being who walks this planet with my special purpose.
I am Me… with all my foibles … and all my talents!
I am Me… a divine spirit inhabiting a human body…
I am mortal… I am eternal… I am a miracle!
And so it is!
