BookEnds literary agents Jessica Faust and Kim Lionetti are inviting writers on Twitter to make a book pitch. At the end of “Twitch Week” they’ll each pick a winner from that group of finalists and reward them with a critique of their synopses and first three chapters. Read the rules in their blog.

BookEnds, LLC, is a literary agency focusing on fiction and nonfiction books for adult audiences.

1000/5000 Words A Day Challenge Check-In

I’ve been spending most of the past few days working very hard on rewriting/editing the first 20 pages of a YA novel before I send it in for a SCBWI conference workshop.

So how have you all been doing with your challenges?

Publisher note about John le Carré: “He hasn’t got any future” — real quote or not?

It’s become one of the classic rejection stories but in case any of you haven’t yet heard about it: After reading John le Carré’s The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, a publisher apparently forwarded the mss to a colleage with a note that read “You’re welcome to Le Carré. He hasn’t got any future.” The book went on to become a bestseller and Publisher’s Weekly named it “best spy novel of all-time”.

It’s a wonderful quote and inspirational to anyone who has ever had a negative review. Although this

Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland

Picture 1

Ooo, just saw some of the pics from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland adaption. I like the twist he’s put on it — the story starts after Alice returns to the real world as has forgotten all about her trip to Wonderland.

You can find a panoramic mouse-scrollable image in USA Today.

Health & fitness site seeking writers

Picture 6

I’m currently using Livestrong.com to track my food and fitness, and noticed that they recently (June 16th) posted in their blog saying they’re looking for health/fitness writers. Sadly, I’m not qualified, but maybe some of you are:

We are seeking qualified professionals and experts, who have extensive experience in the fitness, diet and nutrition areas to create high-quality informational articles in an easy, structured format.

Candidates with accreditation or experience in some health related fi

Reading ebooks on my iPhone…and an ebook reader survey

I’ve just finished reading my 20th ebook on my iPhone 3G. I’ve purchased 76 ebooks from Fictionwise.com (now owned by Barnes and Noble) in the past year.

A while back I said that my favourite iPhone ebook reader was eReader, but I’ve since switched to Stanza. The differences are subtle, but I’m finding Stanza’s improved user interface sleeker and more appealing.
