Happy Poetry Month!
It’s Poetry Month! In honor of the event, Robert Lee Brewer is hosting a “Poem A Day” challenge in his blog, Poetic Asides.
If you’re on Facebook, you can join the PAD group.
From Robert’s description of the challenge on Facebook:
“Every day in April, I’ll be posting a prompt and a poem; all you gotta do is show up and post a poem in response to the prompt. At the end of the month, I’ll be handing out certificates and badges to those who complete the challenge. Also, 50 of the poems from the month
Squirrel Invasion
Some of you may be aware of my love-hate relationship with the neighbourhood squirrels. They eat the seed I leave out for the birds, kill my seedlings, breed inside my home office walls.
Well, today they went too far…

Tax Resources For Freelance Writers
It was my birthday yesterday; thanks to those who sent greetings via Facebook, e-mail and other venues. [image error]
My Inkygirl posts are likely to be scarce until next week because I have to finish putting together tax info, plus any non-writing time will be going toward prepping for FilKONtario, where my music group is performing.
Meanwhile, here are a few tax-related links that some of you (or at least those of you who have put off doing taxstuff as late as I have!) might find useful, plus a cartoon or t

Where The Wild Things Are: a movie?
A Caldecott winner in 1964, Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak was originally published by Harper & Row in the early sixties. It was one of my favourite picture books as a child, and I loved imagining adventures for Max.
Now, it seems, they’re turning the story into a movie.
I admit I’m always torn when I hear that one of my favourite books is being adapted for the big screen. On the one hand, it’s often good publicity for the book, helping to dust off an old title and bring it into the p
Blog: Writing For Children and Teens
Created by Cynthea Liu, Writing For Children and Teens is packed with interesting articles and interviews, with a focus on writing for young people. Her middle-grade novel PARIS PAN TAKES THE DARE with G.P. Putnam’s Sons, and her YA novel THE GREAT CALL OF CHINA for Puffin’s S.A.S.S. series are forthcoming in Spring and Summer ‘09. A third novel is set to be released in 2011.

New e-book reader from Samsung
[image error]
I’m still lusting after the Kindle 2, but I have to wait until Amazon’s wireless service comes to Canada. Meanwhile, I’ve read over 20 books on my iPhone 3G.
However, I admit I was intrigued by the Papyrus, a new touchscreen e-book from Samsung. Supposedly it’s 5.8 x 8.3 inches (the Kindle is 5.3 x 8). I hope the rumours that it only has 512MB of memory and no Wi-Fi are wrong — it would be pretty stupid of Samsung to launch such a limited device in the current e-book reader field.
Anyway, you can

Follow-up: Kristen Darbyshire Author/Illustrator chat on Second Life
Thanks to Kristen Darbyshire for a wonderful talk last night on Second Life at the Inkygirl Haven For Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators.
Kristen used both audio and video in her talk, as well as lots of audience interaction. After giving a brief bio, she began with a reading of her new picture book, Put It On The List (which just came out from Dutton).
Then she had her young daughter read aloud from the book while Kristen turned the virtual pages of a giant version of her book in Second Life
