I'm a writer who doesn't understand the meaning of 'sticking to one genre'. I write in as many genres as I read, but have a strong love of fantasy, sci-fi, YA, and romance. I've spent my childhood living in a tipi on a mountain, a boat in the deep blue sea, and apartment complexes all over Southern California. All of my homes contained vast quantities of books.

I'm the author of the Brenna Morgan trilogy, The Bone Dancer (Cassir Chronicles), and soon to be many more!

when not busy writing worlds I'm busy reading, gardening, LARPing, and consuming way too many comics and manga for my own good. I also love traveling, but my wallet seems to have this problem of running out of money before I can get a ticket somewhere.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Katie Masters Writing is a lot like drawing. You have to do it A LOT. You have to mess up A LOT. And you should--and will--copy the voices of authors you like readi…moreWriting is a lot like drawing. You have to do it A LOT. You have to mess up A LOT. And you should--and will--copy the voices of authors you like reading, A LOT. And that's all okay. As an artist you're told to copy your favorite illustrators for practice, and from that conglomerate comes your own style.

Also, learn the difference between a troll and an honest HELPFUL critique. A troll will tell you your work sucks and leave you in a quivering mass of jello. An honest critique is one where they point out your mistakes, but tell you what you could do to improve. Or if you're lucky, they'll also compliment you on the things you ARE strong at.

And finally, TAKE the criticism, especially if a lot of people all point out the same thing. Be humble enough to know that your writing is always improving and changing---and that's a good thing!
