It's a different world out there now (another cliche) but all the more options for aspiring writers to dip their toes in the water early on. No need to wade through dozens of rejections. Self-publish! Just. Do. It.(less)

I've written a lot about wrongful convictions -- beginning with Randall Dale Adams featured in Errol Morris' documentary "The Thin Blue Line" thirty years ago. I've seen a lot of cases since. The trick is blending the search for truth with a productive lack of bias so that you make good judgment calls and editors let your words see the light of day. Of course, no one is free of bias. It's part of us. But you do your best, you speak to the best (forensic psychologist Dr. Itiel Dror in London has given me quite the education) and learn to challenge the status quo. Ask yourself this. Do you know when someone is lying to you? Sorry, but you don't. Studies have proved that. But although I *know* better, that hasn't stopped me watching interviews and interrogations and wanting to trust my gut! Tricky, dangerous stuff in criminal justice.(less)

This is a difficult one. It's a fabulous book that raises important issues but perspective is everything in this novel. Adult readers quickly realise that the protagonist's point-of-view is unreliable. She romanticises the abuse she suffers as a copi See Kathryn’s answer.

That's a tough call !!!!! It reads like it could have been a memoir the sex scenes are explicit and it is extremely disturbing. Personally , I think its probably a bit much for a young girl as it even references how their brains aren't fully develope See Andrea’s answer.

Definitely not. It was hard to read even as an adult. The rape scenes are graphic and the narrators perspective romaticises the abuse. For a 16 year old this would be confusing and she might not recognise the abuse like an adult reader would.

M. William Phelps
“It’s not easy to find old-school journalism in true crime … yet with Lethal Intent, author Sue Russell proves how integrity, tenacity, brutal truth and honest reporting become essential components to what is a riveting—if not terrifying—narrative of America’s most hated ‘monster,’ Aileen Carol Wuornos. It’s not easy humanizing serial killers, but through an objective lens, clear and defined, Russell paints a graphic portrait of Wuornos’ evil intentions and rough life—a true page-turner, breathless, intense—but also important.”
