A lovely book

Lady In Waiting Lady In Waiting by Jea Hawkins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A wonderful lesbian romance between two adult women with an age gap, that nevertheless doesn't have all the common dithering of the characters or too much focus on sex.

In all a very realistic story that made me fall in love with both of them, even though with me the age gap would be quite something for both characters.

The writing is consistent, the story flows well and has enough twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, so to speak. The romance is beautifully written, the feelings of the two women easy to relate to from the point of view of my own experiences.

I really enjoyed this book a lot.

5,0 von 5 Sternen The Princess of Lights
Rezension aus Deutschland vom 11. März 2020
Format: Kindle Ausgabe
Having read “What if?” and “Viper” before and loved them “The Princess of Lights” certainly startled me a little bit, but then I remembered the title image and realised, that I had been deceived by my expectations of another fantasy/adventure kind of thing. I soon realised, though, that this is a completely different kind of adventure, the adventure of a gifted technician, who, forced by circumstance, discovers a repressed part of herself and embarks on the adventure of joining a musical production, that might be difficult, as the theme could become quite contentious.
As she concentrates, though, on making the technical side as perfect as can be and yet as cost conscious as possible, she unwittingly embarks on a road to success, personally as well as professionally. I will stop here to avoid spoilers, that might reduce your enjoyment of this story, that is as heart warming as sometimes funny, deep and in all a gripping read. There’s romance in there, too, just in case you are wondering. The setting is somewhat contemporary, London in the second half of the 1980s, and it is clear that the authoress has a deep and fond affinity to both, the work and the place here described. I love the book a lot.

January Embers

January Embers (A Year In Paradise Book 1) January Embers by Hildred Billings

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have only one complaint and that is it's too short. But then it is just the start of a whole series.

I like the charcter development of our two at first unlikely love birds from the moonstuck teenagers to adult women, who in actual fact are able to acknowledge the change in each other and forgive first themselves and then the other.

I hope you do not see this as a spoiler, as after all I read fictional romances in the expectation, that the heroine(s) get ehat they want and assume you do so too. Since the stories I write are a lot longer than this I would have liked a little more story, but hey, it is not my book, now, is it?

In all I really enjoyed the read and the writing is good, pretty good! A shame there are no half stars.
Now I am looking forward to the next step for Ari and Mik.

Strong Fort Spathi

Strong Fort Spathí (Swords & Shields, #1) Strong Fort Spathí by Heather C. Wright

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a shame that I am not into werewolf and fae stories, because this book is well written and I admire heather for her world building and plot line.

As it was I read the book with the attitude of a reviever, as, I said it already, I am not really into the genre. From a technical standpoint I am looking at a well executed, coherent and well written tale of a bond beyond human understanding. If you believe in supernatural creatures like fae and werewolves and look for an adveture this book is for you. If I were, I am sure five stars would be my rating, but alas, I am not.

So, from the point of view of an author reviewing, four stars are what I am happy with, due to the craftswomanship of the author.

Monique.

Feedback

My question to goodreads why give aways are only possible with Amzon met with the obvious reply, that being owned by Amazon that might be obvious, but that the suggestion to accept give aways from indie authors would be passed on to the appropriate people who do the business policy.

Having read some of the disussion topics it seems, that I am not the only one, who would like to have the possibility to do give aways independent from Amazon (and hopefully the cost they charge), especially if the give away are ebooks.

I'd really like to hear other author's and reader's comments on this! I think it would do a lot for Amazon's image, if they'd make it possible for those, who just start out and do not have much in terms of funds.

For me it is less a question of money than principle, as I have my "normal" work and do not depend on book sales, even though a bit on the side, I admit, is never unwelcome.
