Joseph Kopel is an imaginative author who has
transitioned from Sci-Fi to Space Opera and now ventures into the realm of
Fantasy with his debut in the genre.
What began as a hobby has grown into thirty-five
years of writing. Being bilingual, he switched between English and Spanish. The
greatest influences on him were the Latin American literature in Mexico City’s
libraries and the most famous American Sci-Fi authors.
When he is out of any fantastic realm to be in the
world of reality, he enjoys his time with his wife, three kids, and his two

Lauren studied psychology, photography and poetry at Sarah Lawrence College. Q & A With … Lauren Martin
Tell us about you as a person.
I am a psychotherapist, an award-winning poet and devoted Ìyânífá. I currently live in Oakland, California. I studied poetry at Sarah Lawrence College. Publication of my writing was delayed by a long, arduous shamanic journey.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
Definitely, Bowie. He did everything his own way and even eulogized his own death. He will always remain the first example I saw of the way shamanism fuses with artistry and creates gold.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
I was writing without submitting for years. In 2015, I was injured in a back procedure and developed a CSF leak. This has been a life altering injury, and I was bedridden. I was writing throughout, and my sister suggested I begin to submit this book.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
I am terrible at self-promotion — worsened by my injury. I think speaking to other people and being graciously hosted by blogs like this is a great opportunity for getting the word out but also for meeting other people committed to words and art. It’s pretty inspiring.
List 5 things on your bucket list.
My goals are driven by my injury which took a shaman who nomadically travelled and made me bedridden.
-swim with my mother before she dies
-hike up Hawk Hill
-see the Grand Canyon
-get some other books published
-feel peace in the fact that my life’s ripple had a positive impact and I helped people
Any final thoughts?
I am a true medium. I dream my work and commune with the dead so my poems often arrive at night or in ritual, fully formed.

Slowly, giving her time to pull away, I
lifted my other hand to cradle her face, my fingers sliding into the
silk of her hair. She let out a shaky breath, her eyelids fluttering
closed for a moment before she met my gaze once more.
“Breaker…” My name was a whisper
on her lips, a plea and a prayer all at once.
“It’s just us, Juni. Call me
Teller. If anyone has that right, it’s you.”
“Teller,” she said softly, her
cheeks flushing.
I leaned in, resting my forehead
against hers, our breath mingling in the scant space between us. I
wanted to kiss her, to taste the sweetness of her mouth and show her
just how much she meant to me. But I knew it was too soon. She was
too fragile, too unsure.
So I contented myself with holding her
close, offering her the strength and comfort of my presence. And when
she finally pulled back, a tentative smile curving her lips, I knew
I’d made the right choice.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her hand
coming up to cover mine where it still rested against her cheek.
I smiled back, my thumb brushing over
her skin in a gentle caress. “Anytime, sweetheart. “
We stayed like that for a long moment,
lost in each other’s eyes, the rest of the world falling away. And
as I looked at Juniper, seeing the hope and the trust shining in her
gaze, I knew that whatever this was between us, it was just the
