Cymera Catch Up

Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it online for Cymera Festival this year, however, I did pre-record an interview with the incredible horror writer Laura Mauro and if, like me, you couldn’t make it along on the day, you can now get a catch up pass to see any and all events you missed

Follow the link here to check it out.

Laura Mauro recently won two British Fantasy Awards for her short story collection Sing Your Sadness Deep and featured short story The Pain Eater’s Daughter. I spoke to Laura...

Reading Roundup May 2021

It’s over twenty degrees in Scotland. Go to the park. Take a book. One of these:

The Young Team by Graeme Armstrong (2020, Picador)

I’m gonna be straight here from the off: I was a 00’s-era grunger in high school. Band hoodies, ludicrously baggy jeans, moon boot skate shoes, questionable taste for rap metal, the whole thing. To me and the people I hung out with, the crowd with peaked hats pointing up at the sky, Berghaus jackets, young team menjies on their school bags were folk we jus...

Indie April 2021

Come next Monday, Scotland moves up into tier 3, meaning bookshops will be able to open again. No doubt there will be a salivating, Dawn of the Dead-esque crowd pushing up against the glass of Waterstones Sauchiehall Street by 8.59am Monday 26th April and I honestly might be one of them. Just the thought of wandering among towering high bookshelves is making me a bit giddy.

That said, the pandemic has not slowed my book buying down one bit, and if anything, book browsing online has probably l...

Reading Roundup February 2021

Lets’ begin with the obligatory, “It’s been ages since I’ve posted any reviews, blah, blah blah….”

It’s been ages since I’ve posted any reviews! I’ve been busy with a couple of my own big writing things and with a toddler on the loose to watch over I’m having to be strict in my priorities. But, as ever, a book or two come along and blow my mind and I feel really enthusiastic to write about them. So without further preamble, here are a few quick reviews of stories I’ve really enjoyed lately:

December review roundup

Yippee-Ki-Yay, motherfucker, and Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal! I had Jon Anderson’s 3 Ships on the turntable the other day so it’s now officially THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY. Which will be harder than most other years considering we’re still in lockdown and Brexit is in the news again (specifically on the day of writing it’s about using Navy war ships to protect ‘our fish’ and I can’t even begin to comprehend how fucking mental that sounds) and it’s hard to pretend 2021 will bring a fresh start,...

Read On the Plate in NWS 38: The Last Good Year OUT NOW

The latest issue of New Writing Scotland is out now and features my short story On the Plate!

Published by the Association for Scottish Literary Studies, issue 38 of NWS is titled The Last Good Year after a short story contributed by Krishan Coupland. Very fitting.

Also inside the covers is prose and poetry by some fantastic Scotland-based authors, including Dean Atta, David Ross Linklater, Mina Moriarty (who once published one of my short stories in FTP magazine which I should clear up by...

November 18, 2020

And now it’s November again…

How? Where has the year gone? I demand it back! (A do-over that is, I’m not wanting to relive the whole pandemic from March again, monkey paw.)

It’s been a while since my last post as I’ve been keeping myself busy on the writing front. I also moved back to Glasgow after a couple of years in the blowy north east. I think I’ve selectively forgotten just how rainy it is here, I need to grow my gills back.

This time last year I was celebrating my fantasy noir novel Burying the Dragon being acc...

Terminal 3 by Illimani Ferreira out 25th Sep

Next month is going to be cracker as it will see the first novel of Mobius Books’ 2020 schedule published!

Terminal 3 is the debut novel from Illimani Ferreira, a sci-fi comedy set in a future where Los Angeles has become a hub for extra-terrestrial travellers. You can read the blurb, check out the ice-cool cover, and place a pre-order here.

There’s also an excellent article about it over at Tor.com discussing humour in SF written by Lantinx authors. (Read here.)

The pandemic has caused inevitab...

Burying the Dragon delays

So it’s now the 8th August and no Burying the Dragon, which was provisionally due to be published on the first of the month. The key word there is ‘provisionally’ as a date couldn’t be set in stone due to potential COVID-related problems.

And it has indeed happened that the Coronavirus pandemic has slowed down work on bringing the novel together. I don’t have a new date for publication just yet but it shouldn’t be too far off. Mobius Books and editor Shane Lindemoen are working hard to get every...

Lockdown Reading Roundup 3

The title of this post may no longer be relevant – it’s getting hard to decide whether lockdown is still actually a thing or not. However, the maybe-good-maybe-bad news for people in England is that bookshops are now open again and are doing brisk trade. Good because bookshops are brilliant and the chance to open the doors now could prevent the smaller independents from going bust; bad because, you know, the Coronavirus is still out there and there’s still no vaccine and still no system in place...
