RUNWAY REPORT.....Paris Fashion Week: CHANEL Fall/Winter 2017
WHAT: Chanel RTW Fall/Winter 2017. Karl Lagerfeld was feeling like a "Rocket Man" for Fall 2017. To be more specific, he staged an "Interstellar Fashion Fantasy" for Chanel's Fall/Winter 2017 runway show. As guests arrived at Paris' Grand Palais, they were "Ooh'ing" and "Aah'ing" at the sight of what looked like an actual rocket ship right in the middle of the famed French exhibition hall.
Lagerfeld was looking to the future and the rest of the Chanel Universe (besides Earth, I guess!). In terms of the fashion, the "Lunar" theme was threaded through Chanel-quilted pace blankets, glittery boots, star-like sequined tweed, pearl embellishment that resembled mini planets and so on.
The big star, however was that aforementioned rocket that seemed to take off at the end of the show. All I could think of was "Wow! This is what perfume and quilted handbags can pay for!!". Incroyable.

RUNWAY REPORT....Paris Fashion Week: Givenchy Fall 2017
Givenchy Fall/Winter 2017
WHAT: Givenchy Fall/Winter 2017. Givenchy Creative Director Riccardo Tisci, who has been at the design helm for twelve years since 2005, announced his departure from the French fashion house last month. His last collections were during the Menswear and Couture Fashion Weeks. This Fall/Winter 2017 collection was designed by the in-house design team. Twenty-seven looks were shown--all in red--using designs from Tisci's 12-year stint at Givenchy. The P.R. department said these were looks that best represented "the house codes" of its original founder, Hubert de Givenchy. The looks were elegant, modern, chic and feminine. Lots of ruffles, slim pants, sleek coats and great shoes. Leather, sequins, fur and lace accented many of the designs.

RUNWAY REPORT....Paris Fashion Week: Comme des Garçons Fall 2017
Comme des Garçons Fall 2017
WHAT: Comme des Garçons Fall 2017. Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo said this collection was "The Future of Silhouette". The show began with two models in white padding fabric looking like exaggerated model forms, the kind one finds in design studios and fashion schools. The "Silhouette" Show continued from there...From what looked like recycled fabric waste (the kind that ends up in garbage bins), brown pattern paper, Mylar, black lace...armless forms, sculpted shapes exemplified this wondrous collection. Of note and important to mention: This will be the final Comme des Garçons collection included in the next Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Exhibition, which will pay homage to the Japanese fashion brand.

RUNWAY REPORT....Paris Fashion Week: Balenciaga Fall 2017

Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2017
WHAT: Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2017. Designer Demna Gvasalia who also designs the UBER hip streetwear line, Vetements , has taken over the design realm at Balanciaga. Gvasalia said he was inspired by over 100 photo mood boards from the Balenciaga archives showing the cabine models of the 50's posing and clutching coats and jackets in fabulous ways...
Coat Inspiration: Balenciaga Couture 1950's coats
For Fall/Winter 2017, he sent out models wearing jackets and coats and wraps asymmetrically fastened, twisted and folded skirts, leather and neoprene pencil skirts with the Balenciaga logo. There were also colored tights and flower printed dresses that ranged from full and oversized to short and baby-doll-like. Most of the collection was seen as a directional and forward-looking take on the famed Fashion House. A lot of the styling--oversized puffy coats and tightly fitted hoods and scarves--did look like a Super Chic "Grey Gardens" revival when you see the photos and watch the runway video...
Balenciaga Poufs: 1950's Balenciaga Couture--inspiration for Balenciaga Fall 2017
But the stars were the final nine gowns which celebrated Balenciaga's 100th Anniversary. The spectacular gowns were an overt homage to Cristobal Balenciaga and his gravity-defying (and technically incredible!) couture gowns of the 50's and 60's. These dresses were all Haute Couture and only available--according to the designer--for Made-to-Order. And they were MARVELOUS!

Last week, I had the pleasure of being invited as a guest on Hallmark Channel USA's "Home & Family" TV Show. I was EXTRA EXCITED because one of the hosts of the show is none other than my NIKOLAKI Awards Show Red Carpet "Muse"--the beautiful and very talented Debbie Matenopoulos !

RUNWAY REPORT.....Paris Fashion Week: Rick Owens Fall 2017
WHAT: Rick Owens Fall 2017. While the collection--and THOSE WACKADOODLE headgear!--may have looked a bit apocalyptic, that wasn't really the inspiration. Owens said the theme of the collection was more about "improvised ceremony", adding that all over the world, people are "coming together to collectively pursue common goals and ideas" according to WWD. The collection showed exaggerated coats, parkas, sweaters, with too-long sleeves and yes, the hazmat-like headgear put together with wire. After seeing the collection, I thought it was "Avant-garde Cozy"...like what I would assume a very UBER Fashionista Gallery Owner would wear on a weekend in the woods, or a trip to Mars!"
