Continuing with my FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" Tour...Last week I was at the main campus of my Alma Mater, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM in Downtown L.A.(Read my BLOG RECAP HERE!) ---and now, it's time for FIDM SAN DIEGO!!!

As part of my "Special Appearance" at FIDM San Diego's "3 Days of Fashion" , I spoke about how I started as a fashion sketching-loving kid who then went to FIDM and then continued to work for 10+ years in the fashion industry, started my company and went on "Project Runway" plus much, much more. In between my stories, I also showed some of my beautiful high-end NIKOLAKI gowns on one of my favorite models, Amanda Fields Bennett.

FIDM.....FIDM LA "3 Days of Fashion" NICK VERREOS Special Presentation BLOG RECAP!
LA Style--Nick Verreos at FIDM Los Angeles "3 Days of Fashion" 2018
Two weeks ago, we started the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Program, a program involving high school students who come to the FIDM campuses--whichever one they choose and register at: LA, San Diego, San Francisco and Orange County--and get to experience life as a "student" of the college. These students get to take draping, sketching, styling workshops as well as go on inspirational shopping trips. They also attend seminars with FIDM Alumni, like myself! This year, FIDM partnered with Skid Row Denim & Apparel to have the students be creative as well as help a worthy cause.

As a Graduate of the college and being the Official Spokesperson, I have the WONDERFUL chance to travel to all the campuses during the "3 Days of Fashion" and do a "Special Appearance/Lecture" including a presentation of my NIKOLAKI gowns for the students.

My first stop was the Los Angeles campus. I had the chance to be part of the first two days of FIDM's Los Angeles "3 Days of Fashion" which I blogged about HERE and HERE . But the third day was my time to give the students my "How I became a successful fashion designer" story as well as show my NIKOLAKI designs. Here are photos recap'ing the fabulous day:

Before I got started with my lecture and fashion show, it was time for one of my FAVORITE parts of doing "3 Days of Fashion" and that's the "Boy Catwalk Contest"!! Sometimes I like to bring the Dads up but this time, I wanted to switch it up and bring the young men attending FIDM's "3 Days of Fashion" and have them do a "Walk-Off" Catwalk Contest: Who Does Runway The Best! Well, it was a very tough competition but they all did exceptionally well:

In Day Two of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM "3 Days Of Fashion" , it was time for two WONDERFUL--and very INSIGHTFUL--FIDM Alumni Guest Panel Discussions! In my last BLOG POST HERE , I recap'ed the wonderful involvement of L.A.-based fashion line Skid Row Denim & Apparel and their collaboration with FIDM to combat homelessness...now it's time to discuss the FIDM Almuni Panels:
Nick Verreos--FIDM Los Angeles Day Two of "3 Days of Fashion"
First up was a very informative discussion with FIDM Almuni including Costume Designers Mandi Line of "Pretty Little Liars" as well as Kimberly Adams who was the Costume Designer for the TV show "Stranger Things" Season 1 among many others...and if they were not enough, there was also the very amazing Kimberly Culmone , who is the Vice President of Barbie Design at Mattel and responsible for the introduction of new Barbie doll body types.

Their Panel Discussion was SO GOOD!! Kimberly Adams, Mani Line and Kimberly Culmone are professionals in their field and have been working for many, many years and had very insightful and informative things to say to the students regarding their time at FIDM as well as very rewarding advice on how to forge ahead in whatever career path one chooses to do. I was sitting in the front row and let me tell you, I felt as if I was "taken to CHURCH!", and found myself with my hand outstretched to the sky, as if saying "Hallelujah!" to every other sentence these wise women were dishing out! Following the panel discussion, I ran up onstage and gave them all THE BIGGEST HUG of "Thank You!" for all the advice and stories they told the students.

Chriselle--who has millions of followers across her Social Media Channels including her YouTube Channel as well as The Chriselle Factor Blog--talked about her time at FIDM as well as the early years of her business and social media "Empire".

Designer Candice Cuoco spoke of how she began making lingerie from her apartment without any real knowledge of sewing or construction, and then eventually attended FIDM and learned how to properly make clothing. She gave lots of "real world" advice about making it in the industry and of course, she talked about her time on "Project Runway" Season 14.

This past week was the start of FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Fashion Event! I am always BEYOND EXCITED to be part of my Alma Mater's "3 Days of Fashion" since it's like a FABULOUS Fashion Summer Camp! Every Summer, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM has this three-day event--"3 Days of Fashion"--a unique immersive program which allows high school students to experience fashion through the eyes of a college student.

Through this collaborative effort and special boutique/"Pop-Up" Store of Skid Row Denim & Apparel, students learned about how fashion and design can intersect with social causes and philanthropy.
Creativity for a Cause--Creative Partnership between FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" and Skid Row Denim & Apparel
After the presentation from Skid Row Denim & Apparel, the students of FIDM's "3 Days of Fashion" went off to different workshops where they got to customize tote bags as well as pillows using trims, markers, zippers, paper, hot glue...in essence they got to "Make It Work!" and create and decorate all for a WONDERFUL cause. The bags will later be sold and auctioned off with proceeds helping the homeless. Here are some photos of the students busy at work...

FIDM.....The FIDM Advanced Study Program in Menswear 2018 Graduates Presentation: BLOG!

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM 2018 Advanced Study in Menswear Presentation in Downtown Los Angeles. The 2018 FIDM Advanced Study Program in Menswear students were challenged to incorporate an element of Wearable Technology into their graduate fashion collections and in particular, one of the garments they designed. For this "Wearable Tech" aspect, the FIDM students were mentored by Lief Morin, CEO of Key Information Systems , who also supplied the necessary Wearable Tech pieces.

Prior to the Presentation, the ten students in the program were judged by an illustrious panel of judges including Joe Knoernschild , Co-Founder of Hurley and Billabong USA; Carl Jones , President of Cross Colours, and Michael Schmidt of Michael Schmidt Studios who created a 3D-printed dress for Dita Von Teese. There were some great Wearable Tech designs including a Solar Powered Backpack, Language Translating Earpieces-incorporated into a jacket, and even a life-saving Skiing/Snowboarding/Avalanche Airbag Coat.

Sunday night I had the privilege of attending T he Actors Fund 22nd Annual Tony Awards Viewing Party at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. This year's viewing party honored
Tony-nominated book writer (for "Wicked"!) and Emmy-nominated writer and producer ("My So Called Life", "Roadies") Winnie Holzman with the Julie Harris Award for Artistic Achievement. Winnie’s husband, actor Paul Dooley, gave a beautiful introduction to Winnie, Kirsten Vangsness of the CBS hit drama "Criminal Minds" hosted the night and was fabulous, funny and looking great in a long gown!
I have been lucky enough to have attended many of these fabulous Actors Fund Tony Awards Viewing Parties. The Actors Fund does wonderful work, providing a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals over their lifespan.

The evening featured a performance by recording artist Shoshana Bean (she sang beautifully!) and the Notre Dame Academy Girls Concert Choir They performed "Over the Rainbow"!), with special tributes by Wilson Cruz ("13 Reasons Why", "My So Called Life") and Jessica Marie Garcia (Netflix’s "On My Block"). There were also very special tributes to Anne Jeffreys, Patricia Morison and Jomarie Ward, who was the heart and soul of the annual Actors Fund Tony Party.

All in all, it was a WONDERFUL night and for a SUPER WONDERFUL cause--benefiting The Actors Fund. Dinner & drinks, the Tony Awards and a FAB Silent Auction. Oh, and in case you are wondering, we bid on that signed "Dear Evan Hansen" Musical Quote...and we won! #Yeay.

Last week, David and I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the NEWEST exhibition at FIDM Museum: "Capturing the Catwalk: Runway Photography from Michel Arnaud Archive".

The exhibition salutes fashion runway photographer Michel Arnaud , whose work for Harper's Bazaar and British Vogue spans the 1970s-1990s and is the first exhibition exploring his wonderful work...

I was beside myself in realizing that I was FINALLY meeting the person behind the lens of these fashion runway photos that were VERY INSPIRATIONAL to me as an aspiring Fashion Designer and Fashion Student at FIDM and I told him so when I got the chance to meet him at the Exhibition. I have a feeling I might have come off as maybe a bit too much of a fan since he was--needless to say--taken aback somewhat by by effusiveness:

Alongside the iconic catwalk photos of Michel Arnaud featuring Supermodels Christy Turlington, Yazmeen Ghauri, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and many more, the exhibition also features FIDM Museum Collection garments and accessories from Chanel, Versace, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and many more--to go along with the runway photographs: The ACTUAL GARMENTS next to the photos...

Highlights were many but besides seeing these iconic catwalk photos of 80s/90's Supermodels I ADORED ( YAZMEEN!! )...there is actual HAUTE COUTURE on display, including a beautiful Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Fall/Winter 1979/1980 black-and-yellow silk satin cocktail dress, as well as a red Christian Dior Haute Couture gown from the Gianfranco Ferre years. This Dior gown is from the Fall/Winter 1989/1990 Collection, and was ordered and worn by the one-and-only socialite/philanthropist and Haute Couture client Betsy Bloomingdale. Seeing those two garments--and corresponding Arnaud catwalk photos--made the Exhibition a MUST-SEE for me!

This past weekend, I had the honor to host the 2018 ICSC--International Council of Shopping Centers--Global Awards Ceremony at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel & Resort . The ICSC/International Council of Shopping Centers is the global trade association of the shopping center industry, maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with national shopping councils around the world.

I was invited to host the 2018 Global Awards Ceremony, honoring the Best of the Best in Shopping Centers across the world in many different categories. The event occurred at the SUPER LUXE Wynn Resort and Casino Las Vegas and so therefore, I was off to Vegas:
I've Arrived!--Nick Verreos in the Lobby of the Wynn Las Vegas
In all my years coming to Las Vegas--whether for fun (attending a "Miss Universe" Pageant) or for work (to do an appearance)--I had never stayed at the Wynn so it was quite a "WOW" when I did for this event. I'm not trying to diss the usual hotels I stay at when I'm in Vegas (OK, maybe) but let's just say, they WERE NOT The Wynn; this was another level of NICE! Even the people dressed NICE. Case in point: Shocker of all shockers, the men actually wore blazers/dress shirts/slacks to dinner and the casino and I spotted many women in chic very expensive dresses from high-end designers...IN VEGAS!!!

Let's just say I was more accustomed to the t-shirts-shorts-and-flip-flops Vegas crowd and The Wynn was NOT (well, maybe in the morning when the guests were off to find a lounge chair by the pool!). Anyhow, it was quite nice to see this other level of a Vegas hotel stay, a more "civilized/First Class" one.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting a fun Macy's "Summer Fashion" Event at the Macy's Del Amo in Torrance California at the Del Amo Fashion Center . The event showcased 2018 Summer Fashion and specifically highlighting three trends: Denim Shorts, Off-the-Shoulder, and Maxi Length. The fun event featured a DJ, special Summer drinks and snacks and more importantly, a fashion presentation with beautiful models showing the latest in Summer Fashion...all available at Macy's, naturally.
