I swear I'm gonna write a book about this some day! Our educational system has so made writing difficult for young people because there is this sense that you have to be able to write something in one shot and turn it in, like it's a state mandated test you have to pass to graduate. RIDICULOUS! All real writers, rewrite and rewrite and rewrite to make it better, funnier, and stronger. Writer's block comes from a sense of insecurity, that you're going to make a mistake! GOOD! Make the mistake and keep going! You'll fix it later!(less)

Then, revising and using my words to pull emotions out of my readers. Language is AMAZING!(less)

What are your goals?

"I've made nothing but C's in high school, so now I can't get into a decent college and my life is gonna suck, right?"WRONG! The fact of the matter is that it's usually not too late to make things happen at any age!I have found over the years that most unsuccessful people either don't have goals or don't think about them very much. Without goals most of us are just coasting. Very often I'll have s Read more of this blog post »

Hermann Hesse
“When I have neither pleasure nor pain and have been breathing for a while the lukewarm insipid air of these so called good and tolerable days, I feel so bad in my childish soul that I smash my moldering lyre of thanksgiving in the face of the slumbering god of contentment and would rather feel the very devil burn in me than this warmth of a well-heated room. A wild longing for strong emotions and sensations seethes in me, a rage against this toneless, flat, normal and sterile life. I have a mad impulse to smash something, a warehouse, perhaps, or a cathedral, or myself, to commit outrages, to pull off the wigs of a few revered idols...”
Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf

Hermann Hesse
“Most men will not swim before they are able to.” Is that not witty? Naturally, they won't swim! They are born for the solid earth, not for the water. And naturally they wont think. They are made for life, not for thought. Yes, and he who thinks, what’s more, he who makes thought his business, he may go far in it, but he has bartered the solid earth for the water all the same, and one day he will drown.”
Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf

Hermann Hesse
“I am in truth the Steppenwolf that I often call myself; that beast astray that finds neither home nor joy nor nourishment in a world that is strange and incomprehensible to him.”
Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf

Hermann Hesse
“To such men the desperate and horrible thought has come that perhaps the whole of human life is but a bad joke, a violent and ill-fated abortion of the primal mother, a savage and dismal catastophe of nature.”
Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf
