But as a story Edju is a devout man who hopes by following the ceremonies and dictates of his church he will eventually see the face of god. Whether or not this is how the universe actually works is a matter of indifference to him. He believes. The powers believe in relics, Edju follows them. The powers set difficult tests before him, he seriously attempts to pass. When he runs into difficulties relative to these powers it is often the "church" acting beyond its own tenets, as it shifts its backing to which ever faction seems to be on the rise regardless of that faction's philosophy. Not a strictly religious commentary, I tried to show what happens when we follow a hero or idol to the detriment of common sense. But if you got something else, it's just as valid.(less)
