Author H.R. Savage started reading romance at an age that made her father cringe as she tried to hide the cover behind her hands. She technically finished writing her first book in Junior High, where it mysteriously disappeared in a reformatting incident. Due to the encouragement of her English teachers at her small town school in La Verne, California, she never lost her love for the art. Now a woman who swears by the power of coffee, Chinese food, and wine (not necessarily in that order), she decided it was time to create stories from the characters in her head.

When she isn’t writing, outlining, or pinning pictures of hot ‘character inspirations’ on Pinterest™, she is spending time with her three beautiful children and handsome husband.

Writer's block gets the best of me more times than not. But I have found that just forcing myself to write is the best way. Once I sit down and get in the groove, then my inspiration comes back. Write. Research. Build a community.
1. Write: Nothing is going to happen if you don't get the words on the page. Getting in there, hammering out your first draft, reading it, editing it, and re-reading it is the ONLY way that you are going to perfect your story.
2. Research like mad. Make sure your story is relevant. Research marketing strategies. Sign up for Author conventions and groups on Facebook.
3. And on that last note: Build a community. The author community is a great place. Yes, it can have drama, but having a supportive author team on your side makes all the difference. Make friends. Don't be fake and force your way into their lives. Join a writing club near you. Join an aspiring authors Facebook group. Make AUTHENTIC friendships that aren't focused on "Here, share my post...".(less)
