The Importance of Building Family Traditions!

family dinner building traditions

This past holiday season we have spent some time together communicating what kind of new things we could add to our traditions as a blended family.

The very nature of a blended family is that two people have come together to start new. This new union causes a group of people to come together that have not yet had time to establish the type of strong natural bonds that a biological child generally has with a parent who has been present since birth.

This includes family tradit...

The Memory Jar

Blended Family Memory Jar

Now that the holidays have passed, New Year’s resolutions are here!

It’s time to drop those pounds, quit drinking soda or coffee, and start flossing regularly. Most people look at the beginning of a new year as a chance to “quit” something bad as opposed to “start” something good. How did resolutions begin anyway? It is believed that the tradition of resolutions dates back to 46 B.C., in which a mythical god of Rome named Janus (i.e., January) influenced the r...

Join us as we Fast for our Blended Families!

21 Day Blended Family Fast

When you think of fasting what comes to mind?

No Food!

Limited Food!

Jesus fasted and was tempted by the devil!

This isn’t bible trivia but do you know why so many people in the Bible fasted?

Well, for several years, we attended a church that always began the year off with a corporate Daniel’s Fast. Up until this point, we weren’t familiar with corporately fasting but learning more about it certainly peaked our interest. When the time came to fast, we decided to join in and give it a try.

Ea...

What to do when the “ours” baby starts asking questions!

About a year ago I had a surprising conversation with one of my “Ours” babies. Now I don’t like to use this verbiage because I am all about unity but in order for you to understand what I am about to share, this point of reference is necessary.

Gabrielle is our smart, helpful, kind-hearted five-year-old.

Willie and I call her our LOVE child because she was the first child birthed out of our love union.  The first sign of her recognizing her family dynamic happened when she was four. Like...

The Unexpected Life Lessons We Learned Through Adoption

When someone learns that our oldest son is adopted, they will often respond by saying, “Wow, he is so lucky to have you guys!” We laugh to ourselves because we know nothing could be further from the truth.

What they don’t know is that our oldest son has done much more for us than we could ever do for him.

Adopting our son has taught us some unexpected life lessons that we would have never learned had it not been for him.

Today we want to share a few of these lesson...

The Joyful Stepmom Community!

In the Fall of 2013, a little Facebook group needed someone to post verses and lead prayer. A prompting in my heart said, “Hey, you can do that.”

Without a leader, this Facebook group for Christian stepmoms would close. There were only 50 of us at the time. Why would it matter? It mattered because this was our community. Finding a Christian stepmom to pray with you is a treasure.  Founding The Joyful Stepmom came from a need for community with my Christian sisters.

I th...

Losing My Mom At Age 10 by Kristina Fucci

In a perfect world, childhood is a time of joyful innocence, brimming with activity, warmth from your family, and wonder at all you’re learning and experiencing. Yes, my childhood included many of these things: a loving family, fun activities, sports, arts, crafts, vacations, church, school, friends, birthday parties, girl scouts, daddy-daughter-dances, mother-daughter teas.

But when my mom died, my world was shattered. It no longer mattered to me how good my life had been, or what I had lea...

How To Move Beyond The Discouragement of Being Rejected In Your Blended Family

I wish I could say that we have this perfect blended family with no hurts, bumps or bruises as we live our day to day lives. But that would be so far from the truth. As a matter of fact, as I sit here writing this blog post, I find myself overwhelmed with emotions about one of my children whom I haven’t heard from and who won’t respond to my messages.

I’m sure you’re thinking, wait a minute, how could the owner of a Blended Family organization whose mission is bringi...
