#XD30 – 7

Once they were about fifteen minutes away, G began to throw on the clothes that were waiting for her in the car; which is sweatpants and a hoodie.  All four windows were rolled down as the black car cut through the late night wind on the highway.  She knew based on the path the driver took, they were going out to the beach; her favorite place to sit and chill late at night.  There were several nights after the club that she would go there and spend hours looking at the stars; sometimes until the sunrise came.  She lay back in the seat, allowing the wind to run across her entire body; the coolness giving off a sort of refreshing sense of calm to her mind.  Her body had been on guard since she walked out of the back doors of Pyramid, and she had just finally began to relax.

She looked at the digital clock in the middle console of the car, and it ready 3:42 am.  About five minutes later, the driver pulled into a parking lot, and put the car in park.  G looked up and could see the calm water ahead of her.  She and the driver unbuckled their seatbelts, reclined their seats all the way back, and the moon roof was opened.  Both could see the open sky and the stars lit up the night sky.

“You ok?” the driver said.

“Yea.  Better now.  Thanks again for coming to my rescue.  I didn’t think you would come” G said.

“You know I got you, G.  I’d do anything for you; you just won’t give me the chance because you got your nose wide open for that punk who treats you like shit.”

G fell silent.   There was an awkward pause in the car, as she knew the words would cut her like a knife.  The person she called upon was her best friend, Jayce, but by his comment she knew that there was unfinished business between them and he was still licking wounds from almost two years ago.

“Jayce, I don’t want to talk about it, ok?” she said.

“Dammit Giselle! I don’t understand any of this!  You let this man pimp you out, disrespect you, all y’all do is argue and fight; yet you still continue to lay up with this dude and claim you love him!?”

G could feel the tears begin to form in her eyes.  She was not prepared for the heavy discussion tonight.  She had already done the most frightening and possibly dangerous thing in her life; walked out on the club, and Chance.  Couldn’t Jayce just cut her some slack for one night?

“Can we just not talk about this tonight, Jayce?  Please?  At least not tonight” G pleaded.

Jayce looked over at her and realized that the conversation was getting overwhelming for G and eased up. “Sorry, G.  I just worry about you baby girl.  You know I don’t like that dude.  I’ll drop it for now, though.  How long do you wanna chill?”

“How long you got?” G said.

“Michelle’s out of town for the week, so I’ve got free time” he said with a caring smile.

G leaned over and put her head on Jayce’s shoulder.  She knew she didn’t deserve to have a friend like Jayce after everything she had put him through, but she appreciated the very moment he came through for her tonight.

It made her wonder why she even picked Chance over him two years ago.

#XD30 – 6

II– VENGEANCE

G walked down the long hallway to the Velvet Room, where Chance told her she had a client waiting for her.  He had briefly informed her that this was a very important client, and that disappointing him would mean “big trouble” for her.  She knew this only to mean that he had very deep pockets, so she had to pull some very interesting tricks out of her bag in order to pull the money deep out of his pockets for her and Chance.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became at how much Chance could possibly get from him, and how little he would be willing to give her with her cut.  G decided that today was the day that she would no longer be taken advantage of.  As she was walking down the hallway, she snuck into the women’s bathroom for a quick moment.  She went into a stall, pulled her cell phone out of her thigh high boots and sent a simple message.

“meet me out back in 10”

She tucked the phone into the side of her boot, flushed the toilet and walked out of the stall.  Another female was in the bathroom reapplying her makeup.

“Rough night?” G asked.

“Girl, these guys are wearing me out in here.  Chance has them lined up tonight.  How many you got tonight, G?” she asked.

“So far he only told me about one, but I don’t know.  I’m sure he will let me know; you know how he is” she said.

The girl nodded and then walked out.  G exhaled and looked at herself in the mirror, “make it through 10 minutes” she told herself.

G walked out of the bathroom and towards the Velvet room.  When she got there, she knocked softly on the door three times; the signal for clientele to know when their girl was ready to come in.  The man behind the door said, “come in.”

She walked in to a red-lit room.  The man, who’s face was barely visible sat on a couch in front of the door, awaiting G’s arrival.

“There you are, baby.  Where you been?” the man said.  His voice was low and raspy.  You could hear the intoxication mixed with anticipation in his voice.

“I’ve been getting a little freshened up for you.  I didn’t mean to take too long” she said.  She walked over to him slowly.

She straddled his lap and eased down slowly, she brought her mouth down to his ear and whispered softly, “I cannot wait to show you a good time.”

The man licked his lips and a wide grin cut across his face in anticipation.  G could feel his excitement rising underneath her.  Most of the other girls could get into it, but G was so used to the routine, that now she was mainly going through the motions.  She knew the cues and knew when to turn it on and off.  Just like on the stage, she knew how to perform for the money.

He began to kiss her neck and just as he was getting into it, G stopped him abruptly.

“Wait” she said.

“What’s the matter?  What did I do?” he said.

“Nothing baby, I just need to use the ladies’ room real quick” G said.

“Man, are you..”

“Just gimme two minutes and I promise I will make it up to you, for free” G said as she kissed a trail down his body.

That set his mind at ease as he leaned back and said, “well hurry up girl, don’t keep us waiting long, now!”

G got up and walked out of the room and held up the signal indicating for her to have two minutes.  He nodded.  She closed the door behind her.

She looked both ways down the hallway.  There was no one in the hall, so she quickly darted down the hall, past the bathroom and out the exit.

When she got outside, a black Impala was waiting outside.  G sprinted towards the car, jumped in and the car sped off down the street towards the highway.

She looked behind her, and as the club became more and more distant behind her, it became easier to breathe.  =

“Thank you for saving me” G said.

“You’re welcome” the driver said.

As they turned the corner onto the highway, G leaned back into the seat, and realized she was finally free of Pyramid.

#XD30 – 5

A glass of Crown Royal sat at the edge of G’s vanity; a perfectly rolled blunt sat next to it.  The nightly combination had become a new routine to put her mind at ease and her take her away from reality long enough to do what needed to be done.  She gave herself a once-over in her mirror; retouched her lipstick, made sure not one hair was out of place.  Her body was perfection; she was an all natural beauty, one of the reasons why Chance felt like she was his most prized possession.  He knew that he couldn’t find a woman more perfect than her.  The way he manipulated his compliments into exploitation was becoming more than G could stand to take, and she decided that tonight would be the last night.  She sat down, took a long swig of her drink, lit her blunt and thought to herself, “I’m so much better than this shit.”

As she drifted off into la-la land, she meticulously began to devise a plan on how she would make tonight the last time Chance ever decided to use her.  She leaned back in her chair and let the weed and liquor combination take over her senses and allow her to drift away from reality.  As she was getting into her “right” mind, she felt a presence over her.

“I got somebody waiting on you in the Velvet Room” Chance said, “hurry up with that shit.  Don’t nobody want no bitch smellin’ like weed.  Time is money, and you Easton’ money.”

G snapped slightly out of her trance to see Chance staring down at her.  She rolled her eyes,  looked up and said, “what’s your problem?  You don’t have an issue with it any other time?”

“Well tonight it’s a problem!  There’s big money in here tonight, and they don’t want no bottom bitches.  They want the best, and you not lookin’ best tonight, baby.  You need to lay off the alcohol and weed, you start in to look basic and shit” Chance spat.

G looked at Chance like he was crazy and slowly began to get out of her chair, “kiss my ass” she mumbled under her breath.

Chance reached down and grabbed G by her neck.  He lowered his head so that she could only hear his words through clenched teeth.

“Stop playing with me, bitch.  I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but you better get up and make me this fuckin’ money.  Don’t embarrass me, G.” he seethed.

He eased away and took the pressure off of her neck.  G stood up and looked Chance square in his eyes.   He had never put his hands on her, but this entire dynamic had turned them into people they once never intended to be.  She looked into his eyes, and gave him a very coy smirk, as she knew that it wouldn’t be long before she be rid of Chance and Pyramid for good.

She calmed her demeanor and replied, “whatever you say, daddy” and walked toward the Velvet Room.  Chance was in for a rude awakening.

#XD30 – 4

G and Chance didn’t start out this way; and she was trying to find out where things took a turn.  She often wondered if finding love in the club was what brought them to this very point in the first place.

The first time Chance saw G, she was with her friends at Pyramid, celebrating a birthday party.  G always flashes back to that night, wondering where the man she met that night was under all of his dark ways now.

“Excuse me ladies, can I get you all another bottle?” He asked us that night.

G looked over and their eyes connected.  Suddenly, something couldn’t take her away from him.  She was locked in a gaze and she knew she had to have this man.  He appeared innocent, which just the right level of thug appeal she needed.

Needless to say, after a few more drinks and a little more flirting, Chance and G made their acquaintance a little better in the back room of the club that night, and ever since then they were all about each other.

It wasn’t until Chance began to make moves into becoming part business owner of the club that he began to use G for what he considered her “talents.”  He would say, “what’s the point in having all them skills if you can’t make a little money off it, baby girl?”

Now, six months later, it’s like second nature in their relationship.  Chance convinced G that stripping was only a temporary thing, and that it would only help him if he was able to recruit top dancers, using her as a headlining act; but little did she know about the side hustle going down in the back rooms.  At first, it was something she wasn’t down for, but when you get addicted to the money, it makes you do crazy things.

G looked over at Chance with fire in her eyes.  She knew that she was at the end of her rope.  She knew she had to find a way out of this relationship.  This had gone on way too long and she had used her body way too much for his satisfaction and monetary gain.  She had to start plotting her way out of this relationship; and the plotting began tonight.

#XD30 – 3

CHAPTER I – PYRAMID

The way you say my name makes me feel like

I’m that nigga

But I’m still unemployed

You say it’s big but you take it

Ride cowgirl

But your love ain’t free no more

But your love ain’t free no more

She’s working at the pyramid tonight

Working at the pyramid

Working at the pyramid tonight

Working at the pyramid

Working at the pyramid tonight…….

As the song ended, G ended her performance spinning down the center stage pole on the main stage at Club Pyramid.  Money was flowing in every direction as she put on the show as she put on yet another stellar performance.

As she proceeded to make her way around the stage, picking up piles of bills that were thrown at her feet as she performed, the crowd was applauding and praising her name as she walked away.  In their eyes, she was a queen personified.  Her hourglass frame and unique moves brought men and women near and far to Club Pyramid just to see her perform.  She was a true to form raw talent.

G picked up the last of her few bills, and sashayed her way off stage and made way for the next girl to begin her set.  The music was blasting and people were packed all around the stage, as it was every night from Wednesday-Sunday.

When G got to her vanity, she placed all the money neatly on her table.  She took a long hard look at herself in the mirror.  Her small clock sitting to the left of her read 2:30 a.m.  She asked herself how much longer she would decide to stay.  As she contemplated removing her makeup and calling it a night, Chance walked up behind her and slid his hands around her waist.

“You leaving?  I got a couple guys in VIP requesting your presence” he said softly in her ear.

“I’m really not in the mood for this shit tonight, Chance.  I just want to count my money and go home” G said.

“Look.  You not about to miss out on this money, and I’m not about to miss out on this money.  So whatever lil’ attitude you got, you need to wrap that shit up and give these niggas what they want, aight?!” he barked.  He slapped her on her ass and walked away.

“Don’t keep them waiting, you got five minutes” he said.

He was drunk.  She could smell the Hennessey on his breath.  It wasn’t like it was unusual for him to be drunk at the club, but she wished for at least one night, he would let her dance and go home.  Instead, he continued his usual routine of pimping her out.

Chance was G’s boyfriend, and co-owner of the club.  When G wasn’t dancing, she was also force-fed into escorting for high-end business clients that Chance and his co-owner Slick liked to entertain.  The business clients in question, were nothing more than the top hustlers and drug dealers in the city, and anyone else who decided to come into town who was highly respected in the game.  Since G was “married” into the lifestyle, that meant she was down for the cause.  I guess that meant if she was willing to dance for money, she was willing to have sex for it too.

#XD30 – 2

They both sit in their respective silence; or stubbornness.  Whichever word is deemed appropriate for the time being.

Tension fills the room thick enough to suffocate the masses.

Both of them want to speak, but neither of them want to lose.

It’s one battle amongst many.

Many battles combined to forge one war.

They only truly commit to three words a day; she starts, he finishes.

“Wanna talk?”

“No.”

And the silent stubbornness continues.

#XD30 – 1

“Say you love me.”

“No.”

“Say it.”

“Mmmmm…I don’t love you. I hate you.”

“I won’t stop until you say you love me.”

…….

“Say it…”

She woke up in a cold sweat.

“Fuck, not again.”  Malia thought.

What’s your Story?

Sometimes I wonder if I have a story to tell, or if my story is still being written.  I’ve thought about this question several times before; when thinking of blog posts, but can never seem to get the words on the page or really decipher why MY story really centers around.

I like to think that even in a short 29 years, I’ve lived to tell some tales, but most certainly not as many as most.

I know I still have so much in store for myself; and I wonder what will end up happening in my life and what I will tell the generations to come after me about what I’ve experienced.

What I can say so far, is what I have been through has made me grow positively.  It has made me stronger, wiser and better than the day before and that’s the best thing you can ask for.  Sometimes, no matter how old you are, there’s a lesson in your experience that someone can benefit from.  You just have to be bold enough to share it with the world.

I say all this to say, I hope one day, I’ll have the thoughts prepared to tell my story, because I believe I have a story to tell and a lesson to give the world; and I want the world to hear it.

If you feel you have a story, don’t shy away from it. Tell the world, because someone needs to hear it!!
